By now most of us have played let's go and probably already got the new mythical Meltan and melmetal but something dawned to me the other day. Since Meltan is technically a pokego Pokemon does this make Meltan the first ever regionless Pokemon. It's tricky to give him a placement due to the fact he debuted in a remake of a region where he wasn't originally apart of. Yet it's hard to classify him
As a gen 7 Pokémon since he wasn't in Alola game wise. Maybe he'll be in Galar but it's not guaranteed he's even part of that dex until gen 8 releases

When it's all said and done where do you think Meltan and melmetals placement in the region dex? Do you think he's a gen oner since he debuted in let's go or gen 7 since were still in that gen or do you think he's apart of gen 8 and we'll have more backstory on them there? Or do you think he'll stay as a regionless Pokémon? What's your thoughts?

I believe due to the naming scheme code-wise in GO and LGPE, Meltan is more likely to be a gen 7 pokemon than 8.

It is a weird one though though. Some event Pokemon do show up in multiple places too. Celebi is very much a Johto legend, but it did feature with its own relic stone in Orre (Colosseum and XD). Deoxys you would say Hoenn, except a) it comes from outer space and b) in its first interaction event was on Birth Island... by the Sevii Islands.

Maybe Meltan's "region" is Earth, aka the real world. It is a Pokemon GO Pokemon debut wise, and not the first time a Pokemon or form has debuts in a spinoff title.

The Ultra Beasts are also "regionless". They originate in Ultra Space, not in the Alola region proper.

Though I suppose if you're going with origin, then Gen 8 wasn't really a thing yet when Meltan was revealed so I'd say it's moreso Gen 7.
