My school has three Latin classes, three Spanish, and one Chinese (Mandarin). I've only been self-taught until high school, and I'll only be able to finish Spanish. (I kind of wanted to try Chinese, but I haven't the time.) I'm going to try to learn German through a book, but I've only seen classes at the local community college. I'm almost done with Spanish II, but I still feel quite awkward in conversations. D: Maybe I'll get to take some more intensive courses come college. :3

My school offered French and Japanese, but the teacher was on leave, so I've always taken them through distance education with the other kids doing languages at my school. 8D

Nope, I've switched schools several times. Currently, I'm legally enrolled in two.

My school offers French, Italian, Chinese, and Spanish, but I still wish they would offer Japanese. Every other school in our area (other than elementary), has japanese language classes to take.

I'm learning French in my school ^_^ Been doing it since I was nine, but I can't say I'm fluent.

I am learning Spanish in my school. Since my school had nothing else to offer, I'm teaching myself Japanese.

I'm curious -- how are you teaching yourself? Do you have a book? Internet?

I'd teach myself Japanese if I were motivated. But I know I'm not. I think I'd learn it better if I take an actual class. I'd take it, but I don't know how that'd fit until my college schedule.

The good news is, I'm going to continue in German now 8D I doubt I'll learn anything, though. 201 was a breeze, it was all review to me. 202, from what I heard, isn't much different. >: Easy A, I suppose. Depending on the teacher. Sadly, my fall teacher's out in Germany for the spring exchange trip to Berlin. She was cool, too. :(

I have a book. I cannot find good sources on the internet. It will take a long time though. I clearly don't have a long enough attention span. I agree that a class would be much easier.

That's cool. 8D I know I don't have the attention span for it, which is probably why I don't self-teach myself Japanese or some more German. I keep telling myself "go read a book" and I never do. >: I guess I'd rather play video games. And write. Speaking of writing, I keep telling myself to more of that too, but I think I'm holding that off because my flashdrive is MIA. I think I lost it in the mess called my room.

Good luck with it, though. :D

Oh, that's another thing I should over the weekend -- start FF X-2. I've been putting that off. I wonder if it's because not a lot of people like that game? I hate having other people's opinions shape mine. I at least want to try it before I totally toss it out.

At least I bought it used for, like, $15. It's not like I spent more on it. XD;

I could never self-teach myself japanese for my life. Well, maybe, but it's going to be very...VERY hard.

Its always better to learn from some kind of teacher, mentor, or tutor. It just feels better than learning yourself.

Well, at least it makes me feel better and that i'm not doing anything wrong.

Maybe i should start a topic on this: Do you like teaching yourself?

Oh, boy, I tried to teach myself Japanese. I think I got some of the pronunciation down, but sentence structure is still confusing me :S

I'd love to take a class, but there isn't really anywhere I could to to learn. The doors will probably be open when I'm older, I don't know. :/

Teaching myself a language would be damn near impossible. I took French for like six years and have nothing to show for it right now. If I couldn't learn with someone helping me, fat chance I'm going to do it on my own. I think the best way to learn a language is to go to a country where a lot of people speak it frequently.

Teaching myself other things ... er, I haven't really taught myself many things, with the exception of walking and potty training maybe. Oh, Maths! I'm pretty good at teaching myself maths, with the help of good textbooks of course. I think I could do it without a teacher. But there are always those problems you'd have to go to something for help. So, I'd probably need a tutor at least.

Well yeah. There are also a few podcasts on the net that also help you.

Reading an article, some schools in NJ, NY, etc., are letting students download podcasts and audiobooks with their teachers permission to bring their iPods into classes, as a way of learning off of the the subject that they downloaded. Interesting?
