Problem is that you have to buy a data plan if you buy a smart phone from T-Mobile, there's no way around it. Well, at least when I got my phone there wasn't. They don't sell the phone without the data plan.
Yeah but if you get an older model of phone, you can usually just buy a SIM card to activate it on any sort of plan. Most companies let you buy a plan without a new phone, right?

@Charizard: Just make sure you look up whatever phone you want and check its specification. Most of the more popular phones probably even have a wikipedia page that'll list if it's wifi capable. And it should say if it's a smartphone. :P Also I suggest HTC because the operating system is just a bit prettier, haha. But I've been really happy with android in general since while most phones running it aren't as expensive as the iPhone, they still have a really robust app store.

As long as it is T-Mo or AT&T then yeah, you could do that. Or you could get and old iPhone or Android phone that takes a sim card and then there are pay as you go sim cards you can buy from Best Buy online...to me that is easier if you are buying an old phone cause then you don't have to mess with a contract or anything, and then just use wi-fi for data like ya'll said earlier...

Ah, thanks for the help guys :D

I asked my dad about it and he told me to wait and shut up about it :P

That's true, though he specifically said he was getting a texting plan so I assumed it was important. I know in Canada at least, if you text and you're on a prepaid plan it's like $0.25 a text and like $20/month if you want to add unlimited onto that. :s Which I suppose is probably still better than most normal plans but sometimes you can get deals. I guess. xD;

Is it really that much for an unlimited plan? I'm paying $10/month for mine. :x

I did on my prepaid plan, yes. :( If I knew I was gonna be texting a lot in one month, I had to buy a 30-day add on. Like 200 texts for $5 or something. On contract plans, usually you get a certain amount of texts. What I'm on now gives unlimited, not that I get anywhere near 200 a month even now anyway. xD;

edit: @Saryka: I know it was at least $15 back when I was last looking at it for Telus. D: I haven't been on prepaid in months though and wouldn't have been looking at texting plans since either May last year or the year before that. Maybe it changed.

Wait, you pay for each text you send? O.o
Only if you are on a plan that doens't have texitng, or if you go over your allotted text count.

@Lightning yeah it might be better if you are on a contract and texting, but most people I know that use the pay as you go option...only do texting so they only pay $20 a month cause they never use a call plan. haha

I don't have a text in my plan so I have to put some money into my account and whenever I send a text it takes a little out of there.

Is the text count the number of words per text, or is it the number of messages you can send?

You should get one! The cheapest one is like $5 a month and you can get like 200 a month like that...much cheaper than paying per text.
Depends on how much you text. For a very long time I got by with less than $5 worth of $0.25 texts every month and had no need for any sort of texting add on. xD;

@Charizard: It's texts you send. Though they're limited to 160ish characters, usually, and if you go over it splits into two texts.

And with that I am off to bed. n__n Night all~

Ohh, so lets say if you send a text with 250 characters and 125 is the limit, it'll be sent in 2 texts and won't charge extra? :o

Good night :D

160 character IS the limit...and no you won't get charged...it just gets counted at 2 separate texts...but really....this is your best deal...

The phone is $200, but you only pay $25 a month for UNLIMITED texting and data...that mean NO OVERAGE CHARGES. And you do get a good amount of talk minutes with that.

You should get your parents to look into it. It is a pay as you go plan...which is probably best considering you dont' want to get stuck in a contract...

Ah okay thanks :D

I don't know if I'll change networks or not, so idk which phone I could buy for sure.

I do go over on my phone bill at times, I am not sure how I do it though. 500 minutes and 3000 texts! Humm.... I talk on the phone too much! XD

I never talk on the phone, haha. It's all texting for me. The rare times I'm actually talking on the phone, it's with family - never with friends.
