Well, as long as you try hard, you'll do it. :3 I wasn't doing all that well in Japanese at the beginning, and now I'm like one of the top students in my class. It's simple, when you're used to it. ;D

You mean the Romanized version, yeah I see what you mean. But, I personally find reading really easy now, they say it all phonetically so it's easy to pick up, like "da-i-su-ki-de-su" which means "I love you" and "ko-n-ni-chi-wa(ha)" which means "Good afternoon" or "Hello". When I was a beginner, I picked out the characters I could recognize, and then I figured out the word. xD

I read kana quite well, and a couple of kanji. As regards kana, it's getting to the point where I don't have to think about how the character's pronounced to read it :) Still can't read most kanji without furigana though.

Just wondering do they teach you Japanese in your high school? I have to go to a community college if I want to learn it :I

Yeah, my school specializes in languages so I'm quite lucky. :3 And that sucks!! :< It's worth it though!

I would take classes this summer, but seeing as I'm over booked I won't have time, next summer no time and the summer after that it will be already too late D:

My dog chewed my laptop charger cord so now I won't be able to get on the internet for a while. :'( I'm sorry guys I will see you all when I get a new cord or a moneter for my computer.

There's only one specialist language school in my whole city. I'm kinda jelly of them. They go to this 100+ year old school, don't wear uniforms and are generally likeable. A couple of friends went there :)

Did you mean to post this in the 'Leave/Absence' thread? XD;

But, hope you can get one soon :D

It's because I learned two of them at a young age (English and Gujarati) then Spanish later on because I grew up around Hispanics and some of my family is Hispanic now.
I learned two languages when I was young too, Vietnamese and Mandarin, and I learned English pretty easily but now I can't learn another language to save my life. I might try Rosetta Stone, haven't tried that.

Same here, I can understand bits and parts of Portuguese (because I know Spanish) and Japanese (from watching anime)

False alarm guys, mom did some weird wiring thing on it and it got fixed.yayz

Oh languages! I am fluent in both English and Spanish. I grew up in an English-speaking household so English is my primary language. I attended a Spanish-Immersion school when I started 4th Grade and learned Spanish pretty fast ^^

I really want to learn German, French, and Russian. I am hopefully going to get a chance to learn French next year because my school will be offering it for the first time~

Just fluent in English, although my French isn't bad and I'm currently learning Japanese. Konnichiwa and all that (although it's 12:45am my time, so that should probably be konbanwa)! In an ideal world, I'd like to become fluent in all three, as well as Spanish and maybe Mandarin... but that's not going to happen!

Just English for me. I only know parts of French, German and Japanese. I do hope to learn Japanese and German in greater detail at some point; I just need the time really.

I love how often we talk about languages in this DCC... XDD

Apart from English, I speak French almost fluently. I pretty much need to polish up my accent and some minor grammatical details but for the most part I've got it down. However, In school I was never taught slang or anything like that so I might sound a tad formal in casual conversations, haha.

I took a German and Japanese class this year and liked Japanese but wasn't crazy about German. I won't continue either next year since I'll need to dedicate more courses on my majors (and I'd really like to try other things for my electives than language courses), but they were pretty fun to do this year. I'd love to learn Spanish, though.

I remember that my teacher was teaching us some slang terms, like F-bombs and whatnot, but I can't remember them. lol

That's awesome, haha. I learned a few French-Canadian swears from some of my friends from Quebec but that's about it. XD

Ugh, we always have the same boring topics here.

I understand French, but I can't speak it. I've forgotten almost all of my knowledge of French ever since I started to speak English more at school. I will understand you, so you can not insult me in French, or I will rage at you in English >:)

Understand some French (took it through high school and the few university courses I took killed any like I had for studying it). I really like Japanese though. Unfortunately, the only reason I'd study it would mostly just be to play more video games in Japanese and not have to wait for localization. But I already do that and understand 'em well enough so all I'd take JP for is for the easy marks. Which I might do anyway.

I wanna learn Mandarin but I don't want to be marked for it because it seems like a really, really hard language to learn. D:
