It's happened to my friend. I'm not exactly the smartest kid on the block, anyway. Closest I've gotten to straight A's was four out of eight subjects, I think. And If I got straight A's I'd end up with $160.

I only get a "Good job, were very proud of you" 3:

Straight A's is a result of how hard you work, not how smart you are. They completely control something that isn't even that hard. Things like this shouldn't give you a sense of self appreciation, unless you truly find it difficult to do the work you need to get straight A's, and the reasons for those difficulties are not caused by your own actions. And most people do get paid for good grades, it's only safe to assume that someone else does as well.
Not everyone is as smart as you're making yourself out to be, jsyk. Some people take great self satisfaction out of achieving such a remarkable grade at school. And if it's a matter of how hard you work, then that should make it all the better for you because you strived hard to achieve good grades and you did. And how smart you are really does play a role in grades. If you're not capable of doing the work then it doesn't matter how hard you try to do it.

$160? Did you actually compromised such a deal with your parents?[/FONT]
There's 8 subjects and I get $20 an A.

Honey, you're not Jimmy Neutron. :D

He's way too good looking to be Jimmy Neutron. :D
Seriously.

I also get rewarded for getting good grades, which is pretty much the only source of motivation I have for small exams that don't really matter..

Grades are a result of ones hard work, they don't show whether a person is 'smart' or not. It's like an, 'I can if I try..'.

Like I said, it's both. If you've got no knowledge of anything in a test, it doesn't matter how hard you try. You're not going to do as well as someone that knows about it.

What? Never heard of that one before. In any case, motivation by monetary means sound like a terrible incentive. That misses the entire point of learning, and would mislead kids to work hard for the wrong reasons. It's the same reason why I'm in geology and not medicine - I go for what I enjoy learning, as opposed to feeling the prestige of getting paid more in coveted faculties like medicine and pharmacy.

And how smart you are really does play a role in grades. If you're not capable of doing the work then it doesn't matter how hard you try to do it.

I can see some exceptions to this - especially when some of my courses have finals worth 50%, 65%, etc. I'd see people at the final exam day that I've never seen before in my class because they'd skip the entire semester and only come for the final - since that one test can make or break your grade. It's more common in a lot of college courses than it is for high school and lower.

Cheating is a smart(yet risky)way to get your way around...
What say you to that mister?

I don't really remember Steve. ._.

Honey, don't even try. It'd be embarrassing for everyone who saw, really. Trying to flame someone for saying you're a bit arrogant, oh good job. As I said, it'd be embarrassing for someone to get worked up over that.

You obviously do not know what "(not really)" means. I have this over-whelming urge to clap.

Well, I'd sure hope so. Isn't he like..ten?

Oh, I just found out who a certain douche-nozzle is...*ignore list*
I'm heartbroken you put me on your ignore list, Ctep. I really, really am. I don't know how I'll ever recover.

They might have learnt about their topic outside of classes, maybe.

Cheating gets you nowhere in life. Except a good grade and some money. I guess that is somewhere. lmao.

On the last week of class, yes haha. More and more universities/colleges are leaning towards self-learning, so as a matter of fact, learning outside of class via just a textbook is common, especially for a professor who can't teach effectively.

Finally, as I stated earlier, the exceptions I mentioned are typically people who study seriously only on the final due to the weight %. It depends on course to course, but if it's one where you just memorize a lot of stuff, and you end up doing well on the final because you can memorize well, I'd have to disagree with your initial statement then. Memorizing is just not the definition of being smart (and hardly doing the bulk of the "work"); it's only a partial aspect.

lol nice edit there by the way

..
Edit?
Excuse me?
I saw that too.....

The 'not really' part did in fact signify that he was joking..
Tune down the drama. o_o

The biggest cheats in life end up on the top.
