She says she's a female in the manga, she says it around the time when she's reappearing to Misa at the Yotsuba group. So there isn't anything to decide.

I've seen the first episode. And read the first two or three volumes of the manga. Oh, and seen the live action movies.

Sorry about not posting but school really gets in the way of everything but it's the school holidays now *Parties* so I am fully active. Now JBC merge your posts and I gotta say Ryuk(Not Riuk but Ryuk) because he's the funnier and more merciful out of the two.
 
*merges posts* there, I prefer Rem, she's a she! and my real reason lies on my DeviantArt Page. XD besides she's nice and she listens and takes care of you. I like being taken care of.
