Did anyone other than me actually expect it to be a resort when you first read about it in-game? Why do you think it wasn't made into a resort, like the name implies, with a giant desert complex? Do you think it was due to the construction already happening in the route or the fact that it's only a resort for a few Pokemon types? Did this disappoint you and how would've you turned it into an actual resort? Discuss!

Water access and a big building full of hotel rooms, bars, and casinos.

Well, at least the water access. And no sandstorm.

  • During B/W's development, I expected the Desert Resort to be exactly what it said on the tin, but I was surprised--and disappointed--that it turned out to be the ruins of an ancient civilization. IMO, GameFreak should've chosen a better name for it.

  • I wasn't really expecting a resort, though I did believe that it would be something in the style of a small town or something like that. GameFreak definitely could have done something interesting with the area though but to be honest, I wasn't that disappointed. :P

  • I srsly thought that desert resort would be a resort like the one in the DPPt place where u had a mansion and all. I was kinda disappointed by a few ruins. Nothing except a big fat sandstormy place, with two entrances at the very top and strewn with items. Useless IMO.

  • I always just figured that it was a mistranslation, and was supposed to be the Resort Desert (after taking a peek at Bulbapedia, this does indeed seem to be the case). Given that, I guess the name is somewhat fitting, as the Relic Castle could have very well been a resort-like area.

  • Like the posts above, I first thought it was going to be an actual resort.

The name totally made me think that, and then I discover it's just a big desert with a raging sandstorm. I think Desert Resort was a pretty misleading name imo.

I never saw a preview like some many here, but when I first went to the area in the game and I saw "Desert Resort" I was like, "Where?" Nothing about the area screams "resort".

I expected something like a holiday resort.
Very misleading name, but ah well.

You know what? You just brought to my mind things that could have fit the name; for instance, the massage lady, and bring back the haircut guy, and other things like a shop selling Calcium and other booster vitamins...make it a place people go to make their Pokémon happy.

Instead, we get a buried ruin. Bleh.

  • Very misleading name. I was expecting something like a hotel or something but then it's revealed that there's a big load of nothing and the only thing that is worth mentioning is the Relic Castle.

It seems I'm the only one who wasn't expecting an actual "resort." Perhaps it's just because I feel that "desert" and "resort" don't really mesh well together at all, but I wasn't really expecting anything fancy from it to begin with. I focused far more on the "desert" than I did the "resort."

But we have lots of places with these things later =)

! Yeaaah it'd be nice if it was like an oasis so you had like water with desert-y Pokemon in it (which'd mean the Unova dex would've probably had to have been expanded, although Sandile may be appropriate?) But yeah the sandstorm is nothing like a resort.

Oh that's unfortunate. :( Don't know why they didn't just fix it at the time, tbh, since a mistranslation like that can't have slipped through a whole team of testers easily really. But the castle nope I don't see that as a resort area at all.

  • I didn't see any of the screenshots and tried to stay away from all information about the 5th generation (I wanted it all to be awesome and new) and when I saw desert resort, I was all "Holy crackers! They put a resort (or resort-like place) in the desert! That is awesome and inspiring!" Problem was, when I got there there was no resort! I could just feel the truth hit me that this was not a resort but a giant sandstorm randomly in the middle of 2 towns.

ಠ_ಠ The hell gamefreak?! I would have taken a small building with someone telling me nice things over a random busted up castle.
