Hello! I'm deoxys121! Welcome to the first challenge I've ever created: The First Route Challenge!

    How to play this challenge:

The basic concept behind this challenge is to battle through the game using only the relatively weak Pokemon found on the first Route of the game that you choose. You can use any number of the Pokemon found on the first Route, but they have to be from the first Route. You may also use duplicates of these Pokemon should you choose to do so. When you sign up, I will add your username to the list of challengers. Different games have different completion circumstances (see below).
Here's a list of the first routes and the Pokemon obtainable at them:
    Spoiler:

    Rules:

Emulators and the speed-up button are allowed.
Since all the Pokemon you need to use are always available, no trading, hacking, or cheating is allowed.
You may use HM slaves, but they cannot be used in battle unless you chose to use only one Pokemon and you come across an inevitable Double or Triple Battle. If you can skip a Double or Triple Battle, do so.
Your starter can only be used until the point where you acquire Poke Balls. You will then capture the Pokemon for the challenge.
Prior to all major battles (Gyms, Elite Four, etc.), place your HM slaves in your PC, unless a specific HM is required to reach said major battle.
You must use the Pokemon you caught at the first route. In other words, no breeding for egg moves and then using the bred Pokemon.
Your team must be fully determined by the first gym. After defeating the first gym, your team is set in stone.
For Black and White, you must have 6 Pokemon in your party, whether part of your battle team or not, prior to catching Reshiram or Zekrom. Then, you will choose not to add Reshiram or Zekrom to your party.
As mentioned before, different games have different completion circumstances:

    • Red/Blue/Yellow: Defeat the Elite Four.
    • Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver: Defeat Red.
    • Ruby/Sapphire: Defeat the Elite Four.
    • Emerald: Defeat Steven
    • FireRed/LeafGreen: Defeat the second round of the Elite Four.
    • Diamond/Pearl: Defeat the Elite Four.
    • Platinum: Defeat the Elite Four, second round is optional, but you can for more of a challenge.
    • Black/White: Defeat the second round of the Elite Four.

Here's what's happened so far with my progress on this challenge:
    - Chose Piplup.
    - Beat Barry, got running shoes, got Pokedex, got Poke Balls, boring stuff.
    - Caught Starly and Bidoof, put Piplup in my PC for future HM Slave use.
    - Trained them to Lv8 before proceeding on Route 202.
    - Proceeded through Jubilife City, got Poketch, beat Barry on Route (203?).
    - Proceeded along the route fighting trainers, went through Oreburgh Gate, went to the mine, found Roark.
    - Trained Starly (eventually Staravia) and Bidoof (eventually Bibarel) to Lv15.
    - Beat Roark by sweeping his team with Bibarel's Water Gun.
    My team is now:

    Staravia
    - Tackle
    - Growl
    - Quick Attack
    - Wing Attack

    Bibarel
    - Tackle
    - Water Gun
    - Defense Curl
    - Rollout

    Proggy

    Update #1:

Well, it's kinda early to be doing a progress report, but I wanted to do one before I went to bed.

I chose Torchic as my starter and rushed through the beginning until I got my balls (no pun intended). I caught 3 Pokemon, a Wurmple, a Zigzagoon, and a Poochyena. I started training my Wurmple, which I named Caspian, first because he would be the only thing to stand a chance against Roxanne and later, Brawly. I fought through the Petalburg Woods and got through to Rustboro City, where I saved my game for the night.

    My team:

    The First Route Challenge

    Caspian the Dustox
    (m) Rash lv. 10
    - Tackle
    - Confusion
    - Poison Sting
    - Harden

    The First Route Challenge

    Sheila the Zigzagoon
    (f) Impish lv. 6
    - Tackle
    - Growl
    - Tail Whip

    The First Route Challenge

    Grim the Poochyena
    (m) Naive lv. 3
    - Tackle

I haven't really thought of rules for an ultimate challenge, but go ahead if you want. I'll just record your completion one game at a time once you complete. This challenge is only for the main-series games. If you want help with an emulator for a 3rd gen game, PM me. I'll add you to the list.

Signed up! Bear in mind, though, there is no way of telling what they will evolve into. I'll just say if you end up getting two that evolve the same, just have the ones you're set with for the challenge before the first gym. After that, no going back and catching more.

Really? What a coincidence! I was making a reference to the Grim Reaper. Not his looks. Lol.

Sound's awesome man! I'll start right after I finish my current HG run.

    Username: Colouful
    Game: Heart Gold
Pokemon to be used: Pidgey, Rattata, Sentret, Hoothoot

Sorry to ask this question, but I didn't really get that from the rules: Can I catch a Pokemon multiple times to hunt for a certain nature and DVs or would I have to use all the Pokemon I catch in the process?

This'll be my first challenge! I'm excited ^.^

If it's against the rules then I need to restart. xD But I think it's alright. As long as you have your team before the first gym.

    @Colourful, dragonomega, and waters_echo:

You've all been added to the list of challengers. And, yes, you can capture multiples for certain natures, IVs, etc. Just have your team set by the first gym. After the first gym, your team is set in stone. I'll update that in the rules to avoid future confusion.

    Right.
Got starter (totodile, named "Totodile"), got pokedex, got pokeballs, got actual Starter (Mah hoothoot, "Raka"), trained and got rest of team and trained, and beat Sprout Tower, and beat the Gym and hatched the togepi (named "Togepi") in order to get everstone.
    Totodile and Togepi are boxed.

    Spoiler:

Please don't laugh at Dixie's name. It's based on dirivative "Dick" from "Richard"- strong/hardy power.
