The general competitive standard: Rules

Anyone foolish enough to use the same Pokemon twice deserves to get thwomped. I've never seen anyone that detached from common sense, because the simple fact that if it can be defeated once, it can be defeated again, is fairly obvious.

Uber list updated: manaphy added.

Why would Manaphy be considered a Uber?

It may have 100 Base Stat like Mew but it has a limited movepool which does not grant it the uber status. Also a good Manaphy with a well nature and good IV's are hard to get. Like the other Pokemon in it's Base Stat group.

Tail Glow for obvious reasons.

Manaphy is an Uber.

Hm, I thought he wasn't an uber, even with Tail Glow. Ah well, never used it anyway. But it isn't a very good uber, even with Tail Glow. Would it be on the borderline of uber & OU?

LOL completely wrong, It has NOTHING to do with manaphy using tail glow. If that were the case any pokemon with access to nasty plot would be uber. Sometimes i completely worry about your logic. Hey guys! togekiss is now uber because it can use nasty plot!!! Oh wait volbeat can use tail glow too!!! ITS UBER!!! Give me a break. Actually do some research before making such insane comments

Manaphy is considered uber for a few reasons, Focus sash+ rain+ rest= one hell of a hard time killing it. Manaphy is THE best watertype(next to kyogre) in the game due to its ability of hydration(loses status effects in rain. 100 base stats all around means it will be able to take alot of hits in general. AND with the use of rest in rail manaphy just wont die no matter what you do to it. Tailglow is a really MINOR reason for why it is uber. It contributes yes as it was stated in smogon. Though manaphy's movepool is rather limited, It can sweep any team regardless of what is on it when it is properly set up. I dont agree that manaphy is uber personally BUT i do understand where people are coming from.

ALso, Because of manaphy's stats manaphy can also SET UP on its opponent rather easiely USING tailglow or something else such as substitute THEN tail glow(ive used this strat before find out it was uber) This quote is from mekkah over at smogon regarding manaphy and i think it says it best

On a related note, how the hell is switching in Tyranitar/Hippowdon/LOLABOMASNOW on Manaphy a good idea for countering it? Again, you just negate Rain Dance but you forget that it can also hurt a lot of crap with nearly 500 Special Attack and Tail Glow. Not to mention Manaphy doesn't even need Rain Dance itself - put it on Bronzong, put it on Kingdra, put it on whatever with a Wet Rock. Switch to Manaphy, 6 turns of free Full Restores left while Manaphy has only spent a moveslot on Rest. Add in Surf, Tail Glow, Ice Beam/HP Electric/Energy Ball and you are going to be in a world of pain.

Manaphy manages to threaten everything except Calm Mind/Electric move Blissey, Ludicolo and perhaps very maybe Lanturn with a great amount of 6-7 moves or so. Some Pokemon are thought dangerous because they have a big movepool and the stats to use them, and the only thing that can stop them is predicting the right set. Imagine your horror when Manaphy's core set steps over everything standard except one Pokemon, and that one Pokemon has to carry specific moves...

Just from this quote alone, Tail glow isnt the only thing that makes manaphy uber. its a combination of things.... Its stats, typing, and everything else MAKES it uber. Not simply tailglow. Im sure if manaphy's stats werent the same as mew/jirachi/celebi then it wouldnt be an uber. It would be OU

so really, who makes the rules as to which pokemon are uber? i think he/she really dropped the ball on this one.. so i spent all this time training manaphy for nothing.

i never agreed with wobbuffett being uber either(yeah so it traps you and use encore mirror coat/counter, but so what? sleep powder, yawn, leech seed, spore, etc all take care of it pretty effectively)

But you're not taking into account the fact that the Pokemon Wobbuffet switches in on has to have that. Because if they don't, one of two things will happen: 1.) that Pokemon will 100% die, and the next Pokemon will likely die too (Destiny Bond), or 2.) You will be encored with a stupid move and allow a sweeper to set up and massacre.

In my opinion, Wobbuffet is THE scariest Pokemon. Manaphy is also up there, since it never dies, but Wobbuffet... once he switches in, it's pretty much a guarantee that two of your Pokemon will be finished off. And if he has Wish support, Wobbuffet can kill an entire team on its own. That's why Wobbuffet is an uber.

(Oh, and its also said that Wobbuffet vs. Wobbuffet is an automatic stalemate.)

That's Wobuffet being Wobuffet. ^_^

Unless somebody is willing to struggle.

Wobbuffet never scares me. I just buff up my offense until it's strong enough to OHKO Wobbuffet before it can counter. I actually did that against someone at Otakon; it was hilarious!!~

That must have been a pathetic Wobbufet.

i know all about wobuffett. had KO'ed my fair shares of wobuffett before. i still think they're overrated. they're annoying yes, but they can never do much damage to my team. i guess it's because i always had a couple of status moves on my pokemon. wobbuffet is not the scariest pokemon at all, they're relatively harmless really. certainly i'd be more worried if i run into a deoxy or any other uber than a wobbuffett.

Well... once a Wobbufett comes into play, you can't switch it to a DD'er or a Swords Dancer, unless your lucky enough to already have it out :D

Then you were playing against a noob because every GOOD Wobbuffet knows Encore.

Ichida's Pokemon used stat-booster!
Person's Wobbuffet used Encore!

Person switched to powerful sweeper!
Ichida's Pokemon used stat-booster!

Ichida is forced to either switch out or have his current Pokemon die!

basically, nicely put, or say the Wobuffet has Focus Sash, the Counter will be so strong he will either 1)Get obliterated 2)Switch out

The funny thing was he tried to use Destiny Bond, but I kept using Dragon Dance until he was out of PP for that move. And I already knew he was a n00b due to some of his other choices. I can't recall any specific ones because I fought a lot of people at Otakon, including someone with a shiny Shaymin, someone else with a shiny Deoxys and a Kyogre, someone with a Lugia, etc, and I scrapped them all. XDD.

There's a difference between Wobbuffet being overrated and not having faced a good Wobbuffet user, you know. Trust me, if you ever battle someone who uses a Wobbuffet and actually knows how to use it as well, you'll understand why it's Uber.

actually, i battled a lot of them on netbattle(usually played on smogon's server). there are ways to break it.

wobbuffet@leftovers
shadowtag
bold
252hp/138def/120sdef <--or something along that line
-encore
-counter
-mirror coat
-destiny bond

i've beaten it plenty of times because i didn't list wobbuffet as an uber so people battled me with it a couple of times. it's not like i dont understand its mechanics. i agree it can be a pain to go up against if you don't have the right counters but i never had too much trouble with it.
