Speculations, I guess, have an air of reasonable prediction. With the series' track record, its entirely likely that as little as the name could in effect change.

As far as reasonable expectations go, I'd like to see some (of course, not game-breaking) compatibility with the new DSi. Maybe a semi-customizable sound track or Mii support. video chat on the bottom screen over wi-fi would be kind of cool, if slightly superfluous. Which also ties in with that I'd like for the next generation to be on the DS again... not the DS2, but the DS.

As far as more outlandish options... Well,

-Custom pallete (trainer, menus) would be cool and easy to implement. I'd absolutely adore the ability to change the colour of the menues, and 5-8 choices of sprites for male and female would be neither difficult nor detrimental to gameplay. If you add in pallete recolours (easy to make and even easier to store on the game card), there could be 40+ different looks for the main characters.

-More intricate plot, and no, I don't think that means that a "dark" story is necesarry. I think a story can be just as interesting without any legitamately adult themes, but feeling worried for characters in situations of peril would do a world of good for the game. The key to this is character devellopment, not "dark themes", which leads to caring for characters; this is why the animé and manga can be so attractive to those who want a more in depth look at the pokémon world.

-Cutscenes. Wether they're sprites, 3-d, or fmv animé, its always great to get a closer, cinematic look at the world of pokémon. Imagine even a brief, 3-4 second HQ animated shot of the protagonist stepping for the first time out of their hovel and into the world beyond, or emerging from the caverns of Mt. Moon and confidently setting his or her eyes on the Cerulean Gym who's badge would soon be his.

-ERRADICATION OF HMs. Or at least, as we know them: have each pokémon have one or two sub-ordinate HM slots for moves that can only be used outside of battle. Personally, I think this would add a lot to the game for both battlers and just players looking for immersion and who don't like to have to switch bidoofs they never wanted to catch in the first place in and out of their party just to access areas of the game.

-As far as gameplay is concerned, I'm all for those little extra things that really get the player involved in the world of Pokémon. I'm talking about the animations of Crystal, or how in DP gym leaders will give their last pokémon words of encouragement instead of sitting idly by. I think that making Gym challenges more true to the show (perhaps similar to how the Battle Stage is handled in Platinum, with a large stadium and such prefacing every round) and other more characteristic properties. I'd like to run into more characters like the Unnamed Executive we saved from Team Magma/Aqua in R/S/E, or the Cutter who's Farfetch'd we rescued in the forest in G/S/C.

-On the technical end, I'd like for battles to stay largely the same, with introduction of the normal elements. People have mentioned things like a 60-100% freeze which I think would be cool. I'd like to see more attention given to underused pokémon, trying to expand the movepools of everything to a somewhat respectable level. I really like stuff like Charge Beam on Empoleon or Flamethrower on Manectric: sensicle, maybe not from a player's standpoint at first, but given the features of the creatures and given that these are inhabitants of a world where they behave realistically. Heat Wave for flying types was a good start. Now, Seed bomb for those same flyers. Flamewheel on Donphan and Hitmontop. Pretty elementary here.

I think thats just about it. Damn, if Gamefreak made a game like this... I'd buy TEN copies.

Yeah, if dark story is not achieved, character development is necessary. Also I agree with all my heart about the cutscenes in the games. Like they just started to put that in the Pokemon D/P. Having a full 3-D on a DS would be very awesome....

I love the idea of trainer customization. But as for the whole "I want a another region in the game" idea, that's not going to work because, like *Lanee said, there is just not enough memory to fit that in. It would be great though.

How would it not work? They put two regions in G/S/C, and they had an even smaller space to do it on.

There is MORE than enough space.
Pokemon Diamond only takes up half of what the largest DS cards can hold.

And I would love trainer customization... They should link it with the next Battle Rev, so you upload your trainer as well as your team.
I love the black jacket with the green honeycomb markings...

Ok.... let's see..... collecting 40 badges? It seems like a daunting task, but hey! Maybe if that happens, they should have a unltimte elite four with like lv 90-100 pokemon and gym leaders with like lv70+ pokemon towards like 35th badge or something...

If Trading With Older Generations Is IMPOSSIBLE, and Hacking and Cloning doesn't Exist in Fifth Generation;

Say if there was no hacking, or cloning. There would be no cheaters. 100% legit. They make a new Remake or new game with Pokemon in. Lets say this is Kanto. You have to work hard on getting the 150 Pokemon and then after this you are REWARDED with Mew.

Meaning more point to catching em all, rather then hacking and cloning em all. More features after the Elite Four. Something that will make me want to beat the Battle Tower.

Back from the Improbable...

I have a question. Do you guys reckon that 5th Generation will be able to trade with the 4th Generation or Transfer Pokemon? Or a new start? Like G/S/C to GBA/DS games?

I think it's safe to say, BlueEew, as long as there are Pocket Monster games, there will always be some device to successfully clone and or hack Pocket Monsters. But to be honest & from my perspective, I could care less, it's their money, not mine. *shrugs* Kinda why I never worried about it.

But to your question, well... I kinda doubt it, seeing as all the effort put into previous games gets utterly wasted, but it'd kinda be cool to have a reset. And could possibly lead to the creation of more games. *cough*

Um, I'd say no. o_o Regurgitating types over and over to prove yourself? In lands where eight badges provide necessary requirement to be considered worthy enough with entry to the Elite Four, that just... won't happen. And I'm sure if I had 40 badges to collect, it might get boring, fast. XD;

Hmmm...I am not sure about 40 badges, but 17 badges would be cool (one for each type), being able to travel to other regions or islands would be great too, they've done this in G/S/C and LG/FR, but I think they should take it further.

if it were to have 40 badges they would need to make training alot harder else you'll get lvl 100 pokemon by the 15th badge

If they we're to have 40 Badges. Maybe some sort of level limit when Fighting the Gym Leaders. That way your Pokemon would have to be the same sort of level range as the Leaders and the game would actually be a challange?

Obviously 40 badges wouldn't work; who made that random number? Lol, they'd have to change the whole game around to make that work, that's why I'm saying 17 badges would be great, I'm thinking a gym for every type.

Ok... so maybe 40 badges is too much, BUT I would still LOVE to go back to ALL the other regions. Maybe the creators can make more quests for all the regions or make a villain team that is spreaded out in all the regions. And while you're doing that you can run into old characters like Ruby, Gold, Diamond, Red, Green, Crystal, Platina, Sapphire and etc.
