5th Gen The Generation Five Speculation Thread

A Metroid-like 3D would be too much, in fact. This is the 3D I wanted:

A simple cell shading wouldn't change the spirit the sprites give nowadays, and still would make a good reference to DS' 3D abilities, though they wouldn't look as great as in the NGC or Wii. But still...

See the difference?

Hmm, maybe, or maybe the ones with green eyes are the evil ones from the movie. look at the little one. It looks mean with green eyes but with blue it looks harmless. Same with Z.

Nah, the ones with Green eyes are the originals by Ken Sugimori.
Anyways this is only a very minor mistake on the animators part and shouldn't be dwelt on.

Hopefully 5th gen will something engaging to do during any spare time that isn't tedious like the Pokemon Contests, maybe have it's own Pokethlon or something similar.
And it's gotta have LOADS of sidequests.

i would love to see a new rpg pokemon game with a full story line come to the wii, battle revolution had great graffics but it was a waste with little gaming options, i would like them to integrate such graphics to a full RPG pokemon game, man that would be goldlike XD

3d cell shaded anime style slightly weaker than pkmn stadium graphics please, that is all.

actually I want an online mode with a chatroom/microphone/mail system and the ability to walk around in a fairly large area online where I can chat/battle/trade with random people or friends. Like in an mmo but the interactions dont have to be 3d, just the battles.

IE: I log in and there's some girl trainer in room... 567 or w/e (each room 15ppl with chat boxes over their heads saying stuff like in maplestory basically), I say "UU battle standard rules come back in 1min", she'd be like ok and we come back n battle. Other stuff like "search for words being used", I put in: "bulbasaur" and i get rooms with people trading bulbas, then i ask for a trade. Sorry run-on sentences.

We're going to need a Generation 5 forum soon. =D

I had a thought, since I'm visiting in the States I got myself a Pikachu coloured Pichu for when I get HG/SS. And I was thinking with all the rumours swerling around time travel in the upcoming movie. Plus the Celebi event in HGSS coupled with the Spiky eared Pichu being that way due to time travel, it's pretty likely we could see some of this in gen. 5.

But that's not my main point. Does anyone think the Spiky Eared Pichu will have any role to play in Generation 5? (Obviously not something overlly plot related since it's limited) Could generation 5 possibly be a return home for said Pichu?

I hope not, no more electric mice please

I say give Legendary Pokemon genders. Atleast so we know whether or not Mew's a guy/girl. And also so Heatran (though I hate him/her) isn't the only Legendary that can be either or.

True dat.

Most legendaries would just be 50/50 boy or girl. I can imagine Mew only being female (or having a 7:8 ratio for females), Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regigas, and possibly Deoxys, Manaphy, and Phione being no-gendered, and Darkrai being male (in mirror of Cresselia that is always female). Oh yeah, and Mewtwo always male (remember the sexist scientists that edited Mew's DNA).

In the anime, some legendaries do have genders. Mew was referred to as a "her" in the English dub of "The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon", and she was a mirage Pokemon (however, it was that god-horrible dub with an Ash that sounds more like a Gary). Also, in "Hold the Phione!", Phione was confirmed to be male since he wanted to take Dawn's Buneary, a female, on a date.

This is how I see the gender thing working:

-Moltres, Female
-Articuno, 50/50
-Zapdos, Male
-Mewtwo, Male
-Mew, 50/50
-Suicune, Male
-Entei, Male
-Raikou, Male
-Ho-Oh, Male
-Lugia, Male
-Celebi, Female
-Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Genderless
-Kyogre, Male
-Groudon, Male
-Rayquaza, Male
-Deoxys, Male/Genderless
-Jirachi, 50/50
-Mesprit, Female
-Uxie, 50/50
-Azelf, Male
-Dialga, Male
-Palkia, Male
-Giratina, Male
-Darkrai, Male
-Shaymin, Female
-Manaphy, 50/50
-Phione, 50/50
-Arceus, Male

Not many legendaries should be single-gender only. Most of them are just like any other Pokemon. For example, Chikorita looks like it should only be female, but it has a 7:8 ratio of being male. So, it should just be for Pokemon like Darkrai.

Mew should probably be 7:8 female. Not saying that there should be male Mew, but considering that Mew is cute, pink, and gave birth, they should usually be female.

I understand, but I feel that since, in-game, Legendaries are one-of-a-kind (with the exception of Phione), that they should be a single gender, with some exceptions.

I don't know why, but I see Mew, and I don't think 'female', I guess its because of its artwork and its sprites in-game that it looks like a little kid to me. It looks male for some reason to me.

When I first saw Phione, I thought it was Manaphy's female counterpart. Like Latios and Latias.

EDIT: For me Phione is not legendary, no matter what Pokemon.com says.

On-topic: Yes, the new legendaries should have their genders like Cresselia, and Lati@s, but Heatran is more like a Pseudo-Legendary to me. The gender thing makes it out of line, IMO.

Even if legendaries are one-of-a-kind, they can still have different genders. See Heatran.

Also, they really need to stop making legendary Pokemon out as "exclusive". I'd like to see legendaries be able to breed, but their requirements for breeding are limited and ridiculous. For example, if a Suicune and Raikou were to breed, then they will need to be at full happiness, be taken to the burned tower or someplace protaining to the legendaries, and then have a one-time item only available maybe once "if you're lucky" in-game.

I never understood Heatran's purpose. As for it's status, since it's spot in the dex is in the 'Legendary' section of Sinnoh, it's considered legendary. Some may argue the Dratini and Pupitar families, but they come after the triad of the games, and before the version exclusives/Mew and Mewtwo.

Why not legendaries breeding like Manaphy? Whatever comes from their egg would be a Pokémon that looks like them (Phione), but would never evolve into them. This would be the only way we could have Aeroblast or Shadow Force being passed to common Pokémon. I have a long list of Pokémon that ressamble to legendaries, and would perfectly be their previous stages, but with no evolution, as said.

That'd be...interesting. Mind posting the list?

OK, as I said they resemble to legendaries. I know you're cool NEP, but some people will come out saying "WTF are you seeing between them??? It's stupid stupid and stupid beyond stupidness..."

These evolutions are most probably not going to happen, it's just another crazy speculation from my mind. I tried to decide about legendary birds but couldn't. And I tried to make a better convertion to pdf, but this was the best I could get by now.

Indeed, I never think of Mew as being female... but it also feels awkward to think of it as a male. If anything, it should just be 50/50 or genderless.

And then someone mentioned Celebi as being female... Has that ever been said in the anime or elsewhere? I always thought of it as male.
