He needed to help them. There was no way Matthew was going to sit around and watch the three die—he'd done so much he regretted ever since joining this damned project, he was most definitely not going to let this happen. The monitors showed glass smashing, the bodies running in a panic, and all at once they were up against some of the worst creatures in the place—the creatures Matthew had lovingly dubbed the Snarls, due to the rather lively noises they made late at night.
Matthew turned to look down at Fia, and she seemed to sense his feelings. With a nod at him, she was up from her spot on the floor and by his side. He gulped, took a deep breath, and shot up from his seat quickly, before he could change his mind. Matthew saw the screens flash as one of the kid's pokemon attacked with a Fire Fang, and then the screens were behind him, and he was climbing up the ladder at a high speed. Fia jumped out behind him, surveying the area swiftly before following him.
Fia was on his heels, and he felt his heart beating faster when he flipped on the flashlight. The hallway was dark—typical of this building—but Matt saw flashes of light around the far corner. A snarling could be heard. Matt and Fia rounded the corner to see the girl's espeon sending a Night Shade into one of the beasts, and dealing a fair amount of damage.
But it wasn't enough. The mutants were moving in on the trio. He had arrived just in time it seemed. Fia made a dash forward, easily passing Matthew, more than aware of what she had to do after so long in these dark passages. Her horn shone a deep purple, lighting the hallway with a dark, pulsating film of violet.
"Fia!" Matthew cried encouragingly. "Night Slash!"
She lit up into the air in one swift motion, before bringing her head down in a graceful swing. Her horn caught down on one of the mutants, and it let out a piercing cry as the dark purple ripped through him. Matthew couldn't see what happened after that, but a loud whooshing noise could be heard, and then the sounds of the Snarls fleeing. He let out a breath he realized he'd been holding for just a bit too long.
The three human faces turned to look at him, and he felt that perhaps he should introduce himself. He wiped his hand on his pants leg before offering it to them.
"Hello. Matthew," he said in two choppy bursts of air. Immediately he mentally slapped himself, realizing this wasn't this place. Interacting with others was something he hadn't been used to from the get-go, but now they were truly flustering him.
Turning, he felt Fia fall in place next to him. They needed to get somewhere safe. If there had been even one more Snarl, they wouldn't have run from Fia. They tended not to express fear or consider odds. He shivered thinking about it.
"I suggest you all come with me."
Dashing around the corner, he hoped the three were keeping up. It was a short run, and when they reached the ladder, he turned, relieved, to find them all there. He pointed at the ladder, panting a little from the unrehearsed exercise, and they seemed to get his drift, filing down it one by one until it was only Fia and himself standing in the hallway. A sudden noise from down the hallway caused Matthew to jump a bit, and with a final look at Fia, he started down the ladder. Fia hopped in after him, and he locked the top, checking it was secure before heading over to the computer.
Matthew was shaking frantically as he clicked into the computer, his nerves finally catching up to his brain. This day was going from bad to worse, and being near so many people at once, after so long, wasn't helping. They hadn't said anything, and neither had he. He kept clicking files, but nothing seemed to be working, and he mumbled something about It messing with the computers before finally giving up. With a deep sigh, he pushed back his chair, grabbing a cup of coffee off the desk next to him and turning to face the three standing before him.
God, he thought sadly, these are practically children. What the hell are they doing here?
He felt so old, and as he surveyed the three, looking them up and down, he thought about how much had happened in his short life, and wondered why it had to affect so many people. Why couldn't he just suffer through this Hell alone? What had these three done to deserve this? What had those workers done to deserve this?
"I don't know who you are or how you managed to get in here," he finally said, in a truly sad tone, "but I think I can explain. Those creatures out there-- the Snarls-- were colleagues of mine. We all worked on a project..."
He trailed off, shivering atop his constant jitters. Perhaps he should ease into this. His emotions were coming out stiff, after so long speaking to only Fia. Two months had passed in such a short amount of time, yet it seemed his time down here, and his short bursts of terrifying freedom within the hallways, was all he could remember for so long. He took a swig of the coffee from before-- it was still here, having not moved an inch since he'd left it to rescue his new acquaintances.
"Uh, maybe I should start over. My name is Matthew, and I was um, an Administrator for the God Project. I was originally put in charge of watching two legendaries-- Uxie and Arceus, but later I was, um, put on the team in charge of creating and caring for... It."
Curious looks were being directed his way, but he kept on speaking, encouraged by Fia, who came to sit down next to his chair, placing her head beneath his hand in a soothing fashion. She was so kind to him.
"It is the name for what you all saw and what you, um," at this he looked directly at Eyone, "shot. It was a clone. More specifically, a clone of a person close to the project-- a Dr., um, Julius Sinclair. We worked day and night, honing it's skills and implanting information into it while It was still just an embryo. And then it was finally born..."
Matthew heaved a sigh. It seemed so long ago, but the memory was burned into his mind as if it was just yesterday this had all happened.
"We asked it questions, and it knew all the answers. It told us the earliest memories that existed-- of a fairy creating the world from, um, light and a, uh, pebble. It's words fascinated me. But then, um..." and at this, Matthew's face contorted into a pained expression, "It wanted to leave. It wanted to live outside the walls of this complex. And they wouldn't let It. They refused to allow It to live the life any living creature deserves."
Matt struggled to compose himself. Rage and sadness surged through him. He looked down at his hand to see it was shaking atop Fia's head, and she whined softly, turning to look up at him with sad eyes. She'd been there too, and she knew the memories that were flooding into Matthew's head now-- they were not happy ones. In fact, the images that now moved across the back of Matthew's eyes were nightmares, full of terror and pain and heartbreak. He took another sip of coffee, blinking hard and swallowing loudly.
"Um...It decided to escape. It seemed nothing could stop It, and it ran through the complex destroying and killing everything and anything that got in It's way. I ran to it, begging It to stop with the destruction and death. But he wouldn't listen. He, um... well... he transported me to about 5 years in the future. I was so surprised, but I didn't have time to worry. There were fires everywhere. People were running, screaming and acting crazy-- mumbling words and odd phrases--and then I saw Celebi."
He thought perhaps he should explain this. All legendaries weren't very well known by everyone-- at least when he'd first come down here long ago. Different people knew about different ones, but different areas and regions always had their personal favorites. Another sip of his coffee. He was calming down now, but he was still shaking a bit.
"Uh, Celebi is a small legendary pokemon. Green and, um, it can fly and perform psychic moves, and before I could do anything, it transported me to about two months ago. I've been living here. There's a cafeteria nearby, but lately It has been creating more and more of these... mutants from the scientists that were left over. It's been getting harder to walk the halls. The beasts you ran into, those mutants, I call them Snarls. They don't seem to think of much besides attacking, not that I've, um, stuck around to ask any of them."
The three had been very quiet, their pokemon following suit. He was surprised no one had interupted him, but perhaps they just weren't able to process the information he'd given them. At times, even he was doubtful of what was real and what was fake. Of what had happened and what hadn't happened in his life. It all seemed to blur together into sadness and death and pain, chopped into digestible bits only by the constant cups of coffee that now littered the floor. Matthew finished the last of the one in his hand, crumpled the cup, and added it to the pile in the corner. He wiped his hand across his mouth.
"Uh, I've been looking on the computers for more information, but it's just bits and pieces. It has made it his mission to foil me it seems, as he's, um, scrambled all the passwords, and a lot of the information. I was in here when I saw you all arrive."
[[OOC: There. Hope that's ok. Tried to include all the info you gave me ChrisTom. :3 ]]
