The Joys Of Teaching

In my opnion, teaching is a very underappreciated profession. I find that it is very similar to parenting in terms of the investment of hours needed to make an impact and/or a connection with children, especially the younger grade levels. It's most definitely an underpaid profession to say the least, but that's a rant for another day. Nonetheless, teachers all around should be applauded for the work they put in, even if that work isn't always well-resopnded to.

The main reason why I'm stating these facts is I am going into teaching. Starting off as a Nursing major, I've switched my trade over to teaching where I hope to one day teach Kindergarteners as a career. I mulled over the idea of teaching older students - such as 4th to 6th grade - but I ultimately decided that I wanted to stick with the younger kids, predominantly ranged K-2nd grade, because I love how imaginative and creative these kids are. Plus, I honestly didn't want to have to deal with the sass that older kids give, which let's be honest...no one is ever a fan of that.

Currently, I work within an elementary school acting as a paraprofessional for Kindergarten classrooms. What this essentially means is that each weekday I go into a different Kindergarten classroom - one classroom a day, four total - and act as an aid for each of the teachers. I also work as a substitute teacher. which has also been a blessing. You see, I've worked with kids all my life, but this is the first time that I've actually have been able to get the experience needed to one day reach my goal as a full-time teacher. It's been a very humbling experience.

And you know what? I've loved every moment of it so far. I'm very happy with my decision to switch over from the anxiety-inducing profession of Nursing to the profession I am in now. My parents were pretty mad at me at the time because I switched over from a higher paying job to a lower paying one, but I needed to do what I love and I wasn't afraid to stand up to my parents about that. As I said, children are absolutely creative people and everyday has been different from the last, which is a blessing in disguise. I don't want to get stuck in a job that has a monotonous routine, but rather tests my wits and experience day in and day out. That is part of the reason why I love teaching so much.
There's nothign more I love then walking into a classroom and seeing the kids bright and shining faces wishing me good morning. It truly does make me feel great about where I am in life and I couldn't wish for anything more. What about you guys? Is there a profession that you're currently in or working towards that you are very passionate about? What is it? Do you think you'll be able to achieve it? Comment below as I'd love to hear and discuss with you what you have to say about this topic!
