Actually, I think the question is not they can be used, but if they should be used. Like, it is really right, since they are legendaries.

Actually, I've been playing my Emerald and have realised that the Latios I'm trying to catch is driving me INSANE. I have a Zubat with Mean Look and Confuse Ray so I can try and catch it, but it runs away before I have the chance to use the moves! ARGH!

Do you think Latias should be Fire type and Latios should be water type and why?
NO!!! That would ruin them cuz then they have more weaknesses and theyre each others enemy

Nope theyre UBERS, Latios' SP ATK goes up to 405, Latias' SP DEF to 405, plus Soul Dew they're UBERS

As for the stats... *ahem* (If youve been around, you probably dont need to hear me lecture again o_0)

Sure of course the Latis' special stats break the 400s (with max EVs and IVs, which is fairly hard to come by, without some sort of cheating mechanism (UNCLEAN DESU~!!!!)) but you must also look at the phyiscal stats. Clearly since they
DOMINATE (I <3 size 7 font 8D)
their special stats (and speed too, actually) you must out-physical them... in other words, the Latis, like ALL Pokémon, can easily be defeated if you have the right counter. =/

Erm... everything desuka? well, I have more of an affliction towards Latias's carefree personality and immediate lovability, and how in the games she RULEZ! (seriously, slap safeguard and recover on her, and you got a tough special wall to boot!) Latios is awesome as the ideal big bro for Latias... tough, protective, and yet also soft like her sis.

I like the fact that despite being legendaries, they manage to look irresistably cute. And being ubers, I've heard (I haven't acyually got that far on Sapphire yet:\) that they have massive stat levels, meaning they're quite hard to beat. My perfect pokemon.

I would go into a tyrade about why I like the Lati's, but I'll try to keep it concise.

Latias. She has a beautifully complex mind. She's very astute, and is tuned in to the emotions of others. She sees the silver lining in every situation, and calls things for what they are. Her mental abilities are her strength, and she knows how to use them.

Latios. He has a high sense of loyalty and honor. He's the stronger of the two physically, and he uses that strength to uphold those weaker than himself. He is unaffected when people try to deceive him as he is a keen judge of intentions.

Both can alter their appearence, both can fly, and both can communicate with humans with their minds. What's not to like?

EDIT: Chose Latias for the poll. She would be the one pokemon I would like to have as a partner, if pokemon existed.

Lolz. I like Yellow, I read the Manga not too long ago. I loved it. I only read the first 8 volumes. But Yellow had to be my favourite character.

I imagine that Yellow would be the one who would have Latias as a friend. Red or Blue would have Latios. Red may have Latias, but only for a bit. Not as a competitive battler. Yellow would love her.

Don't really remember but I definally liked Latias straight away, however the same wasn't true for Latios.

I neither liked nor disliked the two at first. I caught them, put them in my box, and continued my game with the party I already had, not thinking much of it.

Anyways, I read more and more of their dex entries, and I began to like them more and more. I got Latias out, and started training her. Now she's level 100 and a permanent resident of my team.

As for Latios, he didn't really click with me until I saw an AMV on Google Video. It used clips from Pokemon Heroes, and I bet you can guess what it was about. It was set to My Immortal from Evanescence, and it was very sad.

So yeah. That's my story with the Lati's.

Hm, yes, although it may be INCREDIBLY hard to believe, this was the case for me as well o_0 (ImSorryDontKillMeDesu~! >.<) I saw Pokémon Heroes the first time and I thought it was alrite. And then when I was playing Sapphire and I saw her, I was never able to catch her. Until I brought along my Wobuffett and then that fateful day came desu~ When I finally caught her I was lyke:

I CAUGHTZ A LATIAS!

So then as I trained her, I realized how incredibly powerful she was and she became a part of my team. Thats when I had to watch Pokémon Heroes again and that sealed the deal for me; I was now and forever obsessed with Latias. (Incidentally, I watched it with my friend, and after he watched it, he sorta became obsessesed too! (though not as much as I was--NO ONE IS D8<)) Eventually, after a few weeks' practice, I learned how to draw Latias on paper, then in MSPaint, and then in beloved Photoshop, and the rest is history desu~! ^_^
