In regards to HG/SS . . . I feel I may have missed something that a character said somewhere. I beat Team Rocket and finished the last Gym, and suddenly I'm supposed to go to the Whirl Islands and fight Lugia? I legitimately have no idea how this came about. The Kimono Girls gave some vague excuses about wings and bells and stuff, but that element of the plot seemed really anvil-like to me. What I want to know is this. A) Did anybody else feel like this plot point was poorly developed? and B) If not, what the heck did I miss?

I see no reason for Lugia having to wake up. I helped the Kimono Girls at several stages throughout the game, so they judged me pure of character or whatever, but I don't get how that translates into 'You need to go to the Whirl Islands and awaken Lugia.'

    Yours puzzledly,
    MW.

They saw your character had an heart of gold/a soul of silver and that was what made them think Lugia/Ho-oh would accept you as a trainer.
That's why they made you go and try to awaken them.

You helping the kimono girls basically showed you have a pure heart/ pure soul, the need to help others in need. The radio signals from Team rocket affect Lugia/Ho-Ohs sleep thus making them get angry, so a trainer with a pure heart/soul has too go tame one of the two, as written down in johto legends.

That and back is G/S your not told about ho-oh or lugia, so most people could not find them easily.

This. This is what I clearly missed. But! The Kimono Girls had to do their big dancy ritual with the bell and the Silver Wing in order to wake Lugia up (playing SS here obv). If Lugia was really so agitated, would that have been necessary? They made some vague statements about how Lugia had been waiting for a Trainer like me. Do they make a habit of pissing off their legendaries by waking them up and letting Trainers battle them in the Johto region? I just don't get how that whole plotline makes sense.

I don't think it is ever said that the radio signals affected the legndary birds actually. =/

The plot is just, well, not convincing, simple as that (then again, this is Pokemon, the series which had a team think erupting a volcano was good for the environment!). My understanding is though is that the Kimono girls wanted to bring back Lugia/Ho-Oh (something iirc is said directly by one prior to battling all five) and to do so needed to find someone pure of heart. So they gave the mystery egg to Mr Pokemon to someone who showed pure potential... who basically just gave it to Elm via your delievery, and Elm then gave it back to you to make the Togepi hatch. Then the Kimono girls recognised that your character was teh best and etc during your journey and challenged you to the battles against them and...well, you should know what happens after that having played it. I recall their young sister mentioning that it's appeared when you beat them and get the Clear/Tidal bell - so I guess the legendary Pokemon somehow knew then that someone of worthiness has shown up. (Maybe it can only deem that when a rightful holder of the bell has said item?)

I imagine part of the reason for the addition was to bring the legendaries more into the game. As said already, one could have skipped the game's mascot legend prior to the E4 in the original Gold/Silver.
