The NEW Rom Hacking Newsletter Team

Darcy and I had a breif dusscussion about HOTW and we would like to distantce ourselves from it, there are to many winners -___-

Name: Hazzamon
E-Mail: [email protected]
MSN/AIM/YIM/ICQ: ((see above))
Time Zone: Eastern Standard Time
Job: Reporter, Reviewer, any backup job
Proof of Work: 'See below Hacking experience'
Hacking Experience: I've created hacks in the past but due to the a old computer they have failed, but I have now upgraded. So my latest hack, Moon-Glow, should be my finest.
I can map fairly good, insert sprites, do beginner scripting and do basic sprites.

Here is a review on a hack: Pokemon Moonshine by Ninja Caterpie :t010:

Just by looking at the screenshots, I could tell this was a good hack. Ninja Caterpie has definitely gone all out on this.

Okay let's get to the reviewing!

Story: Okay, I admit it's a bit cliche (as he warns) but, I find it to most interesting. Although it seems N.C has made a more difficult hack as he states:
Spoiler:

Aside from that I award the story 9/10

Features:
The features seem a little "typical". For example, new maps? About 90% of hacks have new maps. Maybe something like: "More difficult maps" or "easier, more lush maps".
New events are an important edition to any hack. They are not required (especially if your a beginner), but do enhance the fun of the hack.
Finally, "other things". This is mainly new move sets and such, but I like the idea of being able to Kanto and Hoenn Legendaries.
I award this section an 8.5/10

Screenshots/Maps:
This was my fave section to review. The maps are lush and, overall, splendid. Also in the screenshots, the scripting was excellent. I especially like to door animation.
I give it a perfect 10/10

Conclusion:
This hack will be brilliant when it get up and running. Though no downloads, I will be supporting this hack. Hazzamon, out! :bone:

Final Score: 9.1/10

If that is too long for a review, I'll be more than happy to shorten it.

>_> Well, you cant forget about the rest of the team, sure you might be the editors, but without the rest of the team to back you 2 up then you would just be 2 guys trying to write a newsletter every other week.

What if you didn't do it, and just the reviewers got together and reviewed HotW? That way, you 2 wouldn't have to do anything with it, and we can still have something that we think is a good thing to include in the RHN.

How's that for a slice of fried gold?

It's just to hard for the reviewers to review all the HOTW's that we missed Thanks Mailn :X
But fine, we can discuss it.
And if it was two guys trying to write a newsletter it would be a yearly thing, XD.

Hazzamon I'm going to critique your article and decided whether your acepted or not.
The overall wording of the article was short and the writing style was good, it a stle I like to call Punk Rocker style.
It's to short though, can you write something longer?

What if we let the reviewers decide what they want to review? That would stop a lot of trouble. We could all post here with what we want to review, so nobody else reviews the same thing.

Yes, we need as many reviewers as possible.

Uh, within 33 hours since I made this post.

I already gave Mac_Mini my article! Muahaha!

Also, I have a question... the old RHN had a 4 week deadline miss allowance... what is the NEW rule? (By that I mean, the old RHN team HAD to post something in 4 weeks from the last one they posted to stay on the team... is it the same for the NEW RHN?)

Well, I think you need to send in something at least once for ever 3 issues. If anyone has any better ideas, please post.

Playability vs. Beauty/Nature
The large portion of mappers on the board, focus on making the map beautiful or natural, which usually makes the map a maze which no player would like to go through. The game boy screen is pretty small, the player won't be seeing the entire map as a whole which will probably make all the effort they put into the details worthless. When you make a map with randomly placed trees, random grass and mountains that block the way of the player, they will just get frustrated and will gain no pleasure from playing. Others have gone as far as saying "Well I don't care about the player!" then who are you making the game for? Saying something like that clearly states that you could care less about making a game that everyone will have fun playing and you're just doing it for the popularity. Who's to say you can't make a playable map nice? I can name a few mappers that have done it and have made their maps look better than a "Natural" map, Thrace, Christos, Disturbed, Ninja Caterpie and many others have done it! All it takes is a little effort and some attention to detail, so my question is, why are people being so stubborn to change their mapping styles? Is it just that hard?
Hacking experience: One hack, two games, I started up a hack with Disturbed for a while too.

I marka a macamacate this aplication
