The Nintendo DSi Discussion Thread

The DSi will have an SD Slot right? Damn thats going to be very bad because people would be putting game files into the SD card.

By the way Is there going to be a memory card?

Why would that be bad? Pirating games is fun. *thumbs up*

There will always be someone who manages to hack the DSi to allow it to play homebrew. And there is homebrew for the Wii for your information. Solution to the updates? Don't get them.

I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet but for those od you who are planning to import it, you might want to wait since the DSi may have have region locks for the DSiWare.

...he [S-HIGHLIGHT]thinks[/S-HIGHLIGHT] that the device will be region locked, purely on the fact that the downloads for the system are region based....
He THINKS dahlin... He doesn't have any proof!!

Which is why I said "you might want to wait since the DSi may have have region locks for the DSiWare."

You're a bad a*s!! XD
Anyway I don't think the slot support games, it only supports music, video, sound and pictures only...

I think there will be no region locks... They won't air it to Taiwan and Hong Kong(on November 1st) if it has region locks...

It's pretty obvious that Nintendo won't have it support ROMs but obviously hackers will find a way. *rolls eyes* =P

The DSi might not be region locked after all.
Wired.com: Will that be region-locked? Can I buy a U.S. DSi and access the software that Japanese consumers can download?

Dunaway: I believe that just as you can currently buy a DS in Japan and use it here in the U.S., that you should be able to do that with DSi.

Well, they can always hook it up with something that messes with the internal file of the DSi making it a living flash cart with your SD as the main brain for this? (mmm, i don't think i was clear enough) What i meant to say is...

I think the DSi will outcome the DS with time, purely with that =.=

And yeporz, pirating games is fun :3 (specially if you live where i do hehehehe *evil eyes*)

Yeah but that her answer to the question wasn't a definite answer either.
Actually It's ok to me, as long as I have my DS and DSL!~

So you could mean someone can hack it someday!? Kewl! I'm started to think these hackers are genius!~

Can someone PLEASE tell me how people are going to pirate DSiWare games? I am honestly confused.

Wii - SD card and WiiWare - no piracy because WiiWare/VC downloads are linked to an account
DSi - SD card and DSiWare - NO PIRACY BECAUSE DSiWARE DOWNLOADS ARE LINKED TO AN ACCOUNT

In all the articles I've read, there is no proof that I can download a DS ROM, copy it onto an SD card, insert it into my DSi and play it. (There's also the fact that not even the Wii can run things off the SD card, so I doubt the DSi will, at least not at first.) Also, since Wii has homebrew, Nintendo will probably have learned their lesson and put more anti-homebrew security measures into the DSi. Now, like the Wii, you can probably download SAVE FILES and copy them to the DSi just like save files on the Wii.

Emulators and ROMs of the games. The same way they always do.

Anyway, I don't know how the DSi is going to do with the economy being the way it is. Even the other systems are suffering. I've talked to alot of people and most of them say the same thing, they just can't afford to make a big purchase now.

But why would Nintendo allow the DS to run games (especially retail games) off an SD card? It makes no sense. Just think about it. The DSi has two slots - a game slot and an SD card slot. The DSi knows the difference between the two, and knows that DS games are to be run from the game slot, and pictures and music from the SD card slot and not the other way around.

That's EXACTLY why i said they will find a way around to mess with the internal system file so it can recognize w/e they want from the SD slot and you guys still have your normal DS slots to use so don't go crazy...

Mr. Pokemon, it is indeed obvious they wont make it like that and its like i explained on a post before, it might happen just like how they did with the PSP, some genius guy comes around messes with it here and there and find a flaw and take advantage of it, the PSP in the beginning was sooooo unsecured it took almost no time to start hacking it.

I think the DSi will be somehow like the PSP, having an internal firmware that is modifiable to fit the standards so that's why i think the first buyers will have an advantage in here =.= And no, im not telling you to go run and buy one, i love the normal DS as it is i don't need all that fo sho!~

I think DSi will be similar to Wii(Talking 'bout the security features)...

Maybe there's some misunderstood here. Honey, the SD card is only for saving photos, songs, video and sound file. They are not for inputting games(or save file). And I'm sure the slot will not support any game file or save file. UNLESS some genius hack the internal system of DSi... X3

If the DSi is anything like the Wii's security model, it will encrypt all the downloaded apps saved onto the SD card. That way, it can only allow signed DSi code to launch or be copied to the DSi from the SD card. The way to circumvent this would be to actually get the security keys that the DS is encoded with, which wouldn't be an easy process.

What I'm hoping for is firmware modification. If the DSi is really region locked like they say, then I'd want to change the region file (like possible with the Wii by using homebrew methods).
Oh you changed your name? x3

BTW so that means someone can unlock the region locks?

Well if there are any, we gotta wait for the Japanese DSi to release first. Then if homebrew groups can dissect it, they'll discover the file controlling the region the DSi is set to.

Unless the region is hardcoded into the firmware.
Honey, how long does it takes(usually) for the homebrew groups to dissect it?

It depends on the team, some work faster than others IMO (points at Dark Alex heh)

And what Hanai is saying is just what i said from the very beginning just that with other more enlightening words which i can't still fluently use because of my English level -,-

Hey i thought something. Could we be seeing Dsi games soon? I mean ok the hardware is something we have in our current models but one thing is new:flash memory. Yes thats what im going to. Could newer ds games hyave the option to have save files on the ds instead of the cartridges? If so then i see saves goin round the internet like wii saves. And that could possbile multiple save files for future pokemon games!

Well, the new handheld will have the new Pokemon games on it.

Game Boy Pocket - Blue, Yellow, Red
Game Boy Color - Gold Silver Crystal
Game Boy Advance - Ruby Sapphire
Game Boy Advance SP - Fire Red, Leaf green, Emerald.
DS - Diamond, Pearl, Platinum
