The Nintendo DSi Discussion Thread

And that could possbile multiple save files for future pokemon games!
I doubt it. You can't copy Pokemon console game saves, so you couldn't duplicate Pokemon. Nintendo would likely put in the same anti-copy protection for certain DS/DSi games.

I gues someone could crack it where they could save multiple files into the SD card.
Well, on the Wii you can't copy certain files to an SD card, like My Pokemon Ranch for obvious reasons (Pokemon duplication.) So assuming that they release a Pokemon game that can save on the DSi's internal memory, it'll have copy protection, meaning that you can't copy it to an SD card in the first place, because the DSi's firmware will likely have the same copy protection the Wii and GameCube has. Why do people think just because it's a portable that it's easier to hack?

Yes there is. Reggie announced it the other day. I think there's a Newsbot thread on it in Other Entertainment, if you don't wanna bother going off site for news. (I'd... link you off-site but I'm lazy. XD)

Guess what else was announced? When you buy Nintendo points? You have to decide whether you want them to be Wii Points or DS Points when you redeem the card. You can't just have a balance of 2000 Nintendo Points, you have to pick one console for them to permanently stick with. So if you buy a 2000 Point card, you can't spend 500 on DS and 1500 on Wii--you have to spend all of it on one. :( As one blog implied, it's not like you can expect much more considering this is the company who gave us the convenient friend code system. 9_9

Personally, I feel it's not enough. Downloadable games are great, but the fact that they dropped the Game Boy Advance slot is infuriating. I do not want to buy this $180 game --$50 more-- just forless gameplay. A camera does not impress me. I got on of those on my cell phone. At the very least, if they kept the GBA slot, it would be bearable, but with that gone, it's less appealing.

"a built-in Web browser"

Connects to WiFi itself? *_* Not setting up the stupid WiFi stick?
Well that's what I got out of it.

Hmmm, the no GBA slot is kinda sad. But I don't play those very often, and when a new handheld comes out they would have to be rid of that anyways. It's a depressing cycle, but we don't want the handhelds looking like swiss cheese on the side. But I guess downloading games would mean that you could download GBA games? (But if you already have it, it's pointless.)

About that web browser. It was included in a demonstration video and it appears significantly faster than the current Phat/Lite one which is nice. It doesn't come with the handheld itself. You need to download it off "DSWare" for a price (but free for a while after DSi's release).

Guys the dsi is created by the people who literally created the handheld. You really think that there wont be a gameboy virtual console?

Awesome! So you'll be able to PAY FOR THE GAMES YOU ALREADY OWN, again. Boy I'm glad Nintendo are such a swell company.

Well yeah you're right Saawa but don't you think It's worth it because the DSI does seem like a console that is worth rebuying the games for and if you don't want then just stick with the DS Lite.

Well, I know I've only used the Wii's VC to buy games I never had when I was a kid but loved... like MK64 and Yoshi's Story. 8/ I don't see the point in buying games over again even if I'm guilty of it orz, but there's appeal in the sense that it'll give people a chance to pick up games that are scarce or unavailable now. :(

Mind you, depending on the price I'd probably rather just pirate them but, you know, at least getting them legitimately is an option that might guilt me into spending a few. <_<

I gotta ask, as I cannot possibly read all of these posts, me being an American and all. Does everyone on this tread want a DSi? I don't see the appeal, other than the downloadable games. I just don't like the fact that they dropped the GBA slot. That means I am unable to cas in my DS for this new one, and their is no reason to do so. Otherwise, I lose out on somethi9ng. And I am not going to buy two DS'eses.

I don't plan on getting it anywhere near when it comes out. If DSware is appealing enough, I'll look into it later in its lifespan but for now, I'm perfectly content with my Lite.

I don't really care much about the GBA slot though. Since I already have a DS Lite, should I ever need to use it, I'd just use that. :/

I wish they could make a way that, I dunno, send in your games, or have something to register them. I mean you could have something (you'd probly have to buy it separate, heh.) that could register the GBA games you have and would let you download them free. Once it's been registered it can never be again. (So don't lose it.)

I wish, but not likely.

Well buying old games on the Wii is more feasible. For GBA you find your DS Lite, and just stick a game in; but for N64- you have to lug out and hook up the whole system when you just want a quick run of Pokemon Snap.

I want a DSi. I was wanting a new DS for friend code purposes and I'm afriad my old one will break soon. I also needed an easy camera (my phone doesn't have enough room). And the thought of setting up WiFi without the accursed stick appeals to me as well.

If you've watched Ouran Host Club it's the "Big Extra Strategy for Commoners".

But that's the thing. More often than not, people usually gotta cash in their DS to get the new one. So we straight up loose the slot. I don't wanna lose te option of playing mario & Weegee:SuperStar saga.

Not that Gamestop doesn't rip people off with cash-ins, cause that's the truth. I get $13 dollars for my Pokemon Blue version, yet I get a mere 3 FUDGING BUCKS FOR METROID PRIME?!

Regardless, this is an upset for me, but for others, I guess not. I mean, the DS Lite gave me a reason to buy it, even if I had the original DS (gave it to my neices). This...just doesn't.

You realise both the DS and DS-Lite can connect to most any WiFi network, regardless, right? The stick is only if you lack a wifi network to begin with. The DSP doesn't seem to be any different :P

Ah, I never sell my old consoles for some reason. I just save up for new ones. :'D So if I ever want to play GBA games, I've got my original GBA, my SP, original DS, and my Lite, haha. But I can see where you're coming from, yeah. If it were more of an update to the point of nearly being a new system without a GBA port, then I can see rushing to buy it but... it really isn't worth it if you already have a functional DS. D:

DSP. Quote made of epic win.

EDIT:Exactly! I hate the fact that these "upgrades" aren't anything worthwhile, ntohing worth spending the extra $50 for it, or the 180 if i buy it fresh.
