The Nuzlocke Challenge

Let me introduce a bit before I start this battle. I was about to face Candice and my team was in the low 40's, since I was a tiny bit overleveled for this stage (most players are in Level 39-41 at this point I was at 42-43). My team consisted of Atlantic (Empoleon), Vespiquen (Suukarin), Cherrim (Emmy), Lucky (Togekiss), Chimaru (Rampardos) and Chaore (Rapidash). Atlantic and Chaore were my main attackers for this battle, the rest was backup. I knew I was prepared but yet I was certain one of my Pokemon was going to die here. I opened my team and told everyone that not everyone will survive this feud. One, if not more, would die here and if this were to happen we must not lose our confidence (yes, I talk to my DS Screen), I felt that everyone understood so I went through the Gym Puzzle and encountered Candice.

Now, here's something a bit..erm..odd? I play the game by playing Set. I've done so ever since Crasher Wake. I also play by my newest rule, Team Leader Clause. So let's tell you what that is before the battle.

Team Leader Clause!

I started using it after I saw SooperBlah doing a simmilar scheme. Basically, after every Gym, I must RNG 1 number 1-6 and who ever is on the same Party Slot as that number is the Team Leader.These are what Team Leaders do:

1) Team Leaders must always hold a wortheless-in-battle item, like Odd Keystone or Pokeball. These are their "Team Flag"

2) Once while it is holding the Team Flag, it is immune to death when it is K.O'd. You cannot use this in a Rival/Gym Leader/Commander/Boss/Elite Four/Champion Battle.

3) If the Team Leader dies, you fail the Nuzlocke

4) The Team Leader must participate in the battles mentioned in Rule 2 and must K.O at least 1 Pokemon. If not the Team Leader dies (I do not fail the Nuzlocke)

5) In a Elite Four or Champion match, rule 2 and rule 3 are null. Instead, if the Team Leader dies, you give Team Leader status to another Pokemon.

She sends out her Sneasel as I send out Suukarin the Vespiquen. Suukarin is my Team Leader for after Byron. Her Leader Status will expire after this battle, so she needs to go out with a bang. This part was probably the easiest part in the battle. Sneasel goes for an Ice Shard, knocking less than a 1/4th and I kill it with a STAB Attack Order.

I must of stricken her confidence really hard, beating her Sneasel with a Flying-type and all, because she sent out her Ace Pokemon early. Froslass was there, and I was prepared. I called out Suukarin and sent out Atlantic the Empoleon. He took a Blizzard with ease. Shadow Ball hit my Empoleon while Metal Claw struck into half of her HP. Unfortunately, I suffered a Sp.Def drop, so I was forced to switch. I went into Lucky, my Togekiss to absorb the Shadow Ball and switched back into Atlantic knowing that a STAB Blizzard was near. She went for a second Shadow Ball, but luckily my Metal Claw didn't miss and thus K.O'd her Froslass.

Next came out her behemoth, Piloswine. Then I realized I was in a bad position. Usually, I would go on the computer and do a quick Damage Calculation, but since it was about 6 in the morning, and my Laptop was in my parent's room, I couldn't do so. Afraid of Surf not killing, I switched to Lucky to take the predicted Earthquake. Since I knew for a fact that Piloswine had Avalanche, I went into Chaore, my trust steed to come and sponge the plethora of ice, I was predicting pretty well today.

Except for the fact that I predicted wrong.

The overgrown pork went for a Stone Edge and brought my Rapidash into the Red Zone. Even though I told my Pokemon not to panic, I was the one doing so. Oh the irony.

One thing you know about me. If I start to panic, this usually means the end for me. For some reason, I believed that Piloswine had Thick Fat, despite being a Dream World ability who wasn't even obtainable in this Generation. I took a quick look at my team and I didn't like what I saw. My entire team was weak to both of Piloswine's STABs. I didn't blame myself though, since that was a rare combination to beat. At the top of my head, only the Bronzor family resists that coverage in Sinnoh, while Mono-typed (or any combination of) Normal, Psychic, Bug, Dark, Fighting, Ghost, Ice and Water were neutral to it. Ok, so a lot of things could take this coverage. Blame me and my urge to take underused Pokemon to the Pokemon League.

I had to pick one of my Pokemon to die and that wasn't easy. I'm sure all of us has been in this situation one time or another. But, I don't feel sorry for us trainers, all the sorrow goes to the Pokemon. I mean, would you like it if your trainer, who swore to always be nice to you and protect you, came up to you and said "Well, since I'm a egoist freak who taught I could beat this Gym Leader since I had Type Advantage and lost my guard since I wasn't paying attention, I have every right to put the blame on you and kill you even though you had no part in the battle and you've saved my ass a plethora of times. Good luck dying!"

Yeah, go kill yourself if you've honestly said that to your Pokemon.

Luckily, Chimaru the Rampardos bravely volunteered to die (even though the member I named it after wasn't to happy). Before he died, he told us that is was a pleasure being with us, he was lucky to be brought back from the dead, and if anyone should die, it should be him who had already suffered this fate.

Now, I don't know what Candice was doing, since she was there battling. I mean, when you see a giant dinosaur talking and thanking everyone for a grand adventure as it's fellow team mates and trainer is hugging it, you should know that will be the next one to battle, so you should hit it with your STAB Super Effective Earthquake. I mean, either Candice was feeling sorry for me and gave me pitty by going for Avalanche or she's an egoist like me, praising her Piloswine without paying attention to the details. Either way, someone go slap that woman for being a bad trainer because she's doing it wrong.

Chimaru went out and used Zen Headbutt and it flinched. Unfortunately, it didn't do the same the next time, but he did bring the best to half health.

Rest in peace Chimaru. Even though you had terribad STAB and couldn't take 2 neutral hits from a Pokemon who was on the same level as you, you proved your with and I never doubted you.

Chimaru the Rampardos. Level 20 - Level 43

Even if the beast had Thick Fat, he couldn't take a Flamethrower with his current Health so I went into Chaore and swept the rest of his team.

What I have learned from this battle is that even though you have the type, level and Pokemon advantage, you shouldn't underestimate your opponent, because that Pokemon you have prepared for could be harmless while that overlooked beast can rip your team into shreds.

After the battle, Atlantic the Empoleon became Team Leader. I felt that was appropriate seeing how he is my starter and he took down Froslass wonderfully. Though, since I didn't have my RNG device at the time, I had to settle my Team Member a different way. I added my "Pokemon Seen" and my "Pokemon Caught" from my Pokedex and divided it by 5 (my current team members) and then did a round of eenie meenie minie mo with my Team. You know how the Poketch Calculator makes a sound of the Pokemon's Cry depending on the Sinnoh Dex was the result? Yeah, the result was 37. Go look up who's Sinnoh Dex Number 37 and you will see how much pain I felt at the time.

Candice you may be my favorite Sinnoh Gym Leader, but after this I'm going to hate you for awhile. After the Sinnoh League, I'll probably forgive you and we'll have a cup of coffee and chat about how ridiculously stupid I was.

Anyways, Chaos the Eevee (I'm so self-centered) joined the team and is now a healthy Glaceon, grinding to Level 40 to aid me in the Galactic Invasion.

Nuzlocke Crystal

I will be playing in Crystal. The rules I will be using are:

1. If a Pokemon Faints, its dead, release it.
2. No Healing Outside of battle (optional)
3. You can only catch/recieve one Pokemon in each Area. A town is one area, a route is one area, a cave is one area, etc. Should you fail to catch a Pokemon for any reason (other than game corruption) than too bad.
4. You must nickname all of your Pokemon (optional, but highly reccomended)
5. No catching legendaries.
6. Trading is disallowed, but the reasons following this clause are allowed. Egg trading is okay, same thing with Pokemon that can't have eggs. (optional) Trading simply for the purpose of evolution is perfectly OK.
7. Change the battle style to SET. (optional)
8. Make Comics whenever something amazing happens. (optional, but still reccomended :I)

Also, I'm not /really/ starting the challenge until after I can actually start catching Pokemon.

A question: as far as having to catch the first Pokemon you see, does it have to be the very first Pokemon, or the first new one?

All right guys, I'm finally back and ready for updates. I would've updated more but winter vacation came and I went out a lot leaving little access to my Nuzlocke game. I have been able to get quite a bit of stuff done since I came back. Another thing is that I've decided to can it with the story telling and just give summaries of what happened, but through the personalities of my current Pokemon team.

Diggy the Lonely Dugtrio (lvl 20-37)​

As you can see, I've lost one member of the team. Diggy was awesome, even when he first joined the team. He had solo'd the entire Vermilion Gym. From there, he could take on almost anything thrown at him. He proved his power time and time again... Until the 8th gym leader, Giovanni. I thought I had the upper hand there, but his final Rhyhorn was quicker than Diggy... I got beaten to the Earthquake and he went down in one hit. RIP Diggy, we'll always remember you. :'(

I am just starting the nuzlocke Challenge on Pokémon Green.
rules : 1.3.4.5.6(can't anyway)8. additional. It is japanese ;) I can read hiragana 85% katakana sucks (can read without sheet about 30%(but luckily the syllables are sorted in the known order when nicknaming) and I understand 2 % xD (partikels , my name , yes, no, and some titular names and some random words)

So far I am as far as the forest (Only started yesterday and my Pokémon are in this picture :D

diary day 1

So here I am, Exchange student . Wanted to see a bit out of this two house town and went into the grass but some older person I think a researcher stopped me and said something about ポケットモンスター something about poket mosta or so.., anyway followed him into his lab where a brat of a grand son stood from what I grasped who was asking about the same ポケモン.
So that prof wanted me to have one of these balls , which I discovered had one of those pockemon in it. I chose zenigame a water specialist , and called him misuko (the brat laughed about it) so this brat, who i just refer to as 'baka' wanted to battle me- had a quick look on the what this one could do so tried たいあたり
Taiotari, which was treasonably successful. It defeated the brats Pokemon who was cursing about something didnt't get and then left .
Seeing the prof didn't want anything more from me I went my way again.
Got to see a couple of those critters till I reached the next town and tried to catch them but it seems they don't like being caught by hands so I left it there.
(misuko got stronger he even learnt a new attack"あわ " "awa" on the way to the enxt town
went into the center where they healed any damage that was on misuko and showed me something on a paper and she showed that once it is hitting 0hp i cannot come to the center or something like this- I am not sure whether I understood everything though.
anyway, understood this and set my food into the next place , where I was greeted specificly and I was given a packet which they instructed me to give to the Prof- Okido.
I wanted to see what else could be got in the shop but didnt grasped the names and the shop onwer threw me out gently with the advice to bring the packet back.

Went through the grass, back again to battle some other critters, and got back to the lab where I met the brat of a grandson again.
Gave him the box, and then he was talking some more said something about ポケモンずかん soemthing to do with Pokemon I gathered and then he gave us this little gadget which showed information on my misuko.

He rambled away, he obviously expected me to understand more than I did but the hist mother where I am staying told me that all people go out and catch the critters and beat people. Thats not exactly what I envisioned when I pitched up here but well.
Off I went again through the grass. still no pokemon had the interest to get caught by me as a result i only got some scratches on the arms...
In the town I have been before I went to the shop again and bought some object which looked nice saw that some looked like a ball like the one that the misuko stays inso I guess that thats the only way to get them following you.
I caught a poppo and names it guruguru and oj a route i havent ventured on before I found a nidoran which i just shortened to nido. and I beat some wild pockemon with it. just when i got up i meet the baka kid again who says like pretty long words of which one was pockemon league and he mad some snidy remarks which folled by a battle. he only had two pockemon one which was a poppo and his fushigidane, I beat them bnoth although the poppo was a bit harder than anticipated and i needed all 3 of my critters to beat it but none of it went to 0hp which means I guess that I can get them on that machine to regain a bit strenghts.

Went on top the forest where I found a kyatapi a caterpillar like critter whcih i called kakashi.
Oh by the way- that brat had a sister and she got me that map pointed to route and showed one finger. From what I gather it is only allowed to catch one Pockemon on each of the routes. and she gave me that map too so I don't lose my way.

Day 2

So I went through this pretty big forest, and I even fought with some kids that played bug catching there. I really saw the advantage of having an evolved caterpie instead of a caught metapod-
When I made it through the forest I healed the critter, met some kid at the side of the town but he didnt want to battle his critter, he just wanted to show me around town. How nice is that, showed me the official league building too , so I headed straight in , and there was a lad with some cute ground critters who were no match for misuko though.
made him fit again for the main guy of this hall and he was in fact easier than the lad at the entrance. I quickly had this stoney badge in my hand and some cd thing and he talked some more wasnt sure what he was saying - but it gave me some direction-
Had a look at the local museum too which was interesting as they had pretty old critters there who seem to have populated this place before. didnt think you'd get that big ones, although I have to say that onyx wasn't too small either.
Filled up my bag at the local shop, finally I can find stuff to keep the critters on good spirits.
so just went out of town and there seems to be a popular hang out for the town kids- no surprise i didnt see much in the town. fairly easy to beat made good eapecially for kakashi who evolved into a butterfree.

Another boring passed by in the boring Town of Pallet for a bored thirteen year old boy named Artemis. Even his dreams themselves were boring themselves. Who in the world dreams about what they had for dinner? Oh wait, that would be me. The young teen thought as he snuggled up underneath the sheets of his bed, hoping that excitement would grace him tomorrow morning aka. his fourteenth birthday

"Hello, there! Glad to meet you!"

That voice, it was one that the young boy knew pretty well. Who was it again? It happened to be the the voice of professor Oak. Why is Professor Oak in my dream and why isn't he shirtless? Artemis was rather shocked when he heard himself think that. Sure, he knew that he was gay for a two years now but Professor Oak really? Wait a minute. Got the wrong Oak for a moment there. Anyways, moving on.

"Welcome to the world of Pokemon! My name is Oak. People affectionately refer to me as the Pokemon Professor."

Why are you telling me this? I know who you are and how could someone not know about Pokemon? Artemis asked in his head. It's not like it actually mattered anyways. It was only a dream after all.

"This world.... is inhabited far and wide by creatures called Pokemon."

Seriously? You'd have to be living under a Geodude not to know this. If this was an anime then the hero of our story would had a giant bead of sweat suddenly appear on his brow. Occasionally this could be followed by a palm to the face but our hero decided to go with annoyance for this is not an anime, this is a videogame. ...Since when did I have a narrator and did he just break the fourth wall?

Yes, yes I did.

"For some people, Pokemon are pets. Others use them for battling."

Reminds me of that Dog Fighting Story with Michael Vicks.

Thanks... Artemis could just imagine a fanged grin coming from the mouth of the narrator of his story. The narrator had a pretty handsome grin if he did say so himself.Don't flatter yourself.

Now enough of that silly NPC. Let's get back to our main character now. As the rest of Professor Oak's text faded away, Artemis's mind scape was slowly filled with a bright white light. Ok day 3

I made my way through that Mountain tunnel, and Butterfree learnt confusion :D that send the zubats flying hehe. Battled against some guys who talked something about Pokemon mafia Rocket or so, I wouldnt know why would anybody have a mafia around those critters...
They were better than the trainers though at least that ratto had my butt burning- nothing happened to my critters luckily.
Also during one of the battles misuko has evolved to its next form :)
anyway made it past that mountain massif and got out in a pretty dale area which led down to the pretty city of Cerulean. Put the enegry of my critter back up at the local centre and it was time to get batty a bit of a work out- he doesn't seem to do much, he just manages to defeat one of these sand critters there---
Also lots of them learnt new attacks without me niticing at first especially kakashi - learnt lots of powedery attacks paralysis, poising sleeping. shame one only can have 4 attacks for one pockemon but I guess these are the league regulations again. sigh. Going to see what the next day brings :)

Going to Nuzlocke Silver. I did up to the Elite Four on my laptop, but now I'm too lazy to finish that. I'd rather start over on my desktop.

Edited for great Justice: Done! Nobody died until Red's Blastoise (He also had Charizard in reserve) where Kadabra, Krabby, Seaking, Spearow, and Weepinbell all died. But luckily, he missed Weepinbell with Blizzard, and it got a couple flashes off before it fainted. Graveler came in and finished him off, and the Charizard that came afterwards.

That's basically my team. Early on, I used Bellsprout and Cyndaquil, but quickly dropped them and just used these two. Too bad you have to trade to evolve these guys.

I love the Nuzlocke Challenge. I did one on Black with the basic rules plus nicknaming, and I managed to get through with just one death. Now I'm doing it in Platinum and so far I'm doing alright, with two bagdes and zero deaths.

I also write for my Nuzlockes, a one-shot for Black and a multi-chapter Zombie-filled epic for Platinum.
