You sacrificed Mud Shot just for the purpose of not having a Marshtomp with an un-Marshtompy nickname? Aren't ground moves the sole purpose of using the Mudkip line instead of, say, Tentacool?
We fought a little here and there to train (but not much), we went back all the way through Diglett tunnel to get the Flash HM. It was a little tough to see all the Digletts, reminding me of Dipe... But um.
Went to route 34 or whatsitcalled and met..... Spearow. I'm done with Spearows. Caught him anyway and named him SPEK. Not gonna use - box!
Later caught a Voltorb, luckily, and named it VOMO. Training it as we speak. (As I speak? We? I?) VOMO has a sassy nature and will for sure become a great member of the team!
Well... I have done a lot lately. Ground my new :t123: up to lv 27, same as the rest of my guys, and tried to pick a team to kill Whitney.
Here it is:
Spoiler:
Creeper - :t012:, lv 27, M.
Wounder - :t075:, lv 27, F.
Lobotomis - :t097:, lv 27, F.
Lobotomis owned the Beauties in the gym, then Creeper took out the Lasses with a Sleep Powder/Confusion spam combo.
Whitney was...
A piece of cake.
:t035: fell to a couple of Confusions (though it 'Nomed an Ancientpower against Creeper the :t012:, leaving him with 40 HP /big deal/). :t241: was put to sleep immediately and Confusioned to death without firing a shot. Who's afraid of the big fat cow? Not Creeper!
:t012: pwns :t241:
The Plain Badge is mine!
The next thing I did was go and net the :t185: - successfully! Named it Mallet, pretty sure it's male. My route 37 pokemon was a Metapod from the trees :( Unusable, so I killed it. I wanted a :t204:! So badly.
Raised Sudowoodo to lv 28 and went hunting for more pokes to pad my team with. Got the Eevee from Bill back in Goldenrod, named it Scourge and raised it up to lv 30. I want :t196:!
Burned Tower gave me a Rattata (great, thanks - useless); route 42 gave me a Spearow (useless); route 38 also gave me a Rattata (useless).
So I checked route 39, hoping for a Magnemite, a Miltank or perhaps a Tauros, and got:
Spoiler:
:t020:.
Didn't catch it, no point.
Got the Good Rod from Olivine, went fishing - :t129: in Olivine and back in the waters of Ecruteak. I could still use them, so I picked the two lv 20 Karps up and named them Fury and Terror. Decided to train them up and spam Morty with Biting Gyaras.
But it was not to be. Fury died of Spinarak poisoning from under Ecruteak, just 2 steps from the PokeCentre counter. Damn.
Died:
Fury - :t129:, caught Olivine City, lv 20, died of Spinarak poisoning.
Then, Terror copped a critted Hyper Fang from a Rattata on route 38 and died, too. My Karps were dropping like flies.
Died:
Terror - :t129:, caught Ecruteak City, lv 20, died to a Rattata's critted Hyper Fang.
Great. I was left with pretty much no new additions.
Luckily, I snagged a :t066: in Mt Mortar and a :t098: on route 40. Raised them both up to lv 28 without incident, killed the Kimono Girls with Hedge the :t017:, got Surf, taught it to Wrath the :t130: and prepared to kill Morty.
Morty bashing team:
Spoiler:
Wrath - :t130:, lv 29, F.
Mallet - :t185:, lv 32, M.
Agony - :t123:, lv 29, F.
Turns out Wrath was enough to take out every trainer and Morty without stopping for a break. Bite slaughtered those ghosts. Awesome stuff. The only moves I saw were suicidal Curses from Haunters, because Gengar got critted >:D.
The Fog Badge is mine!
Remaining unused pokemon:
Spoiler:
Wedge - :t067:, lv 28, M.
Vice - :t099:, lv 28, M.
Scourge - :t133:, lv 30, M.
Box of used pokemon:
Spoiler:
Maul - :t160:, lv 32, M.
Hedge - :t017:, lv 28, M.
Impaler - :t022:, lv 27, M.
Leech - :t169:, lv 27, F.
Puncture - :t042:, lv 27, F.
Maim - :t020:, lv 27, F.
Pierce - :t020:, lv 29, M.
Creeper - :t012:, lv 32, M.
Wounder - :t075:, lv 31, F.
Lobotomis - :t097:, lv 27, F.
Agony - :t123:, lv 29, F.
Wrath - :t130:, lv 31, F.
Mallet - :t185:, lv 32, M.
Deceased:
Spoiler:
Garotte - :t175:, hatched Violet City, lv 5-9, died to own 'Nomed Selfdestruct.
Nox - :t012:, caught Azalea Town, lv 10-15, died to wild Rattata's critted Hyper Fang.
Fury - :t129:, caught Olivine City, lv 20, died of Spinarak poisoning.
Terror - :t129:, caught Ecruteak City, lv 20, died to wild Rattata's critted Hyper Fang.
Gotta watch those Rattatas. Towns seem to be unlucky birthplaces :/ I fear for Wrath, Maul, and Scourge.
Seriously, the number of areas I can still get pokes from is diminishing rapidly - if I end up not being able to take a gym with 3 unused poke species, I'm going to lose the challenge. If anyone's reading this, wish me luck, 'cause I still need 9 more entirely new pokes.
Too bad... Vomo died in a battle with a nerd's Slowpoke in Rock tunnel ;______;
RIP Vomo.
Whe reached Lavender, didn't find much interesting, so went to the west and found... a Meowth in the grass! Female and a cute little kitten. But.... nope, I miss Mike. But not enough to train another Meowth right now. Miry (I think) I called her and I boxed her.
Then we found a Vulpix >.< Dang. No catch since we found Miry first.
In the waters south of Lavender, Mufa the Magikarp joined our team. Oh, right, in Rock Tunnel, Geig the Geodude joined as well. A good member! (I don't want to jinx him like I jinxed Vomo though :O )
We'll probably go to Celadon as soon as I've trained Mufa to a Gyarados ~n____n~
Desperately needed new guys, so I did my best to squeeze all the pokemon out of the few remaining places I had:
-Netted a Tentacool on route 41, named her Acidburn
-Got Flaaffy on route 43 ^^ Called her Twitcher!
-Got another Tentacool on route 27 (east of New Bark), named him Palsy
-Fished up a Krabby in Cianwood, named him Pincher
-Lake of Rage gave me a useless Caterpie in the trees :/
-Natu teleported away outside the Ruins of Alph -.- Scourge the Eevee nearly died to a Geodude's Selfdestruct on the way O.O 1 hp left...
-Koffing blew up in the Mahogany rocket hideout >.< I would have liked a Weezing.
-Got a Slowpoke in the Falls in Kanto ^^ Named him Gallows.
Beat up Chuck with:
Spoiler:
Gallows - :t080:, lv 37, M.
Acidburn - :t073:, lv 34, F.
Palsy - :t073:, lv 34, M.
He died so fast he didn't know what hit him.
Now I'm trying to decide who should take on Pryce - my team has too few members to take on Jasmine for the time being. Therefore, my guys all had to be ground up to lv 42, most of them from lv 32.
Garotte - :t175:, hatched Violet City, lv 5-9, died to own 'Nomed Selfdestruct
Nox - :t012:, caught Azalea Town, lv 10-15, died to wild Rattata's critted Hyper Fang
Fury - :t129:, caught Olivine City, lv 20, died of Spinarak poisoning
Terror - :t129:, caught Ecruteak City, lv 20, died to wild Rattata's critted Hyper Fang
Hoping for something new in Whirl Islands, Ice Path, route 44, route 45, Blackthorn and Dragon's Den. I have nowhere else to go, and need at least 4 new additions to my team.
After losing Pearl just after finding it in the first place, I've been cut off from any sort of progress! After not updating in so long...I think I'll call it a loss. Feel free to remove me from the participation list.
Took out Pryce with no difficulty with Twitcher the Ampharos and my two Kinglers, Vice and Pincher.
I only had two unused pokemon left. I had to get something new - namely, a Seel - from the one area left to me.
The first thing that showed up was a Tentacool :(
My custom challenge has ended in failure.
Overall, if I had had fewer casualties and caught more of the pokemon available, then the challenge would have been doable. I do have some issues with it though:
1 - it involves a lot of grinding that will not pay off until the E4 - if you can get that far.
2 -instead of encouraging me to use new, interesting pokemon, I was stuck with all the vendor trash. Gold is not a great version to Nuzlocke, IMO.
If I were to do it again, I would allow species to be reused while Nuzlocking.
Now, I have a question (if anyone's reading this) - should I press on with these guys in a regular Nuzlocke, or should I start a new challenge?
Just, push on... it is a great achievement to finish a Nuzlocke and you should be proud if you ever do.
I've only finished one or two in my life, most notably my Ruby one (when I was cut off from da interwebz, that's why no one knows about it), where I gave it all.
And it's nice knowing you're a champ as well ! :-) I know the grinding is so painful, but ... it's VBA we're talking about ! We've been blessed with the Spacebar ! That makes grinding 999.999.999 times easier ! :]

I want to start one on Sapphire.
... I already started another one, but I didn't really give my pokémon personalities, and I want to do that! For me, it's the challenges where the pokés have interesting personalities that are entertaining to read (I don't promise I'll be entertaining though XD) I might take the old challenge up again WHEN i finish the Sapphire one >:) Cuz I will. It might take time, but eh XD All the good things...
Update 1:
Spoiler:
I named myself Saph and grabbed a little Torchic from prof Birch's bag. It peeked up on me from the pokéball and kind of said "Well go on missy, let me out alreadyyy!" And out he went, and scratched the Poochyena to death in just two flicks with his claws. Neat.
Named him Mercury. He has a rash nature and is kind of peppy and stylish. And is he overly self-confident? We'll just see.
Went around in the grass punching pokémon for a while, and Mercury's level rose and rose. Seems he's got reason to be confident! We found Brendan (since Birch had been on the brink of crying when I said I didn't think it was a good idea to go meet his son), who sent out a naïve Mudkip who certainly didn't see what he had coming for him. Mercury boosted up with Focus Energy and then gently poked Mudkip with his claw. Poof, Brendan had lost. No biggie.
What now? Our first poké-catch! WANT!! Exciting to see what we find...
And... hooray, three Zigzagoons, on all three first routes. Dang! Even Mercury facepalms, and he hasn't got hands. The first I want to introduce is Pluto, the adamant male. He never gives up, even when he should, he doesn't make jokes but he can enjoy one once in a while. If it's really funny.
The second one is Charon, the calm male. He is not necessarily easy-going, but has a quiet and focused view on life.
And the third Zigzagoon >.< is Rhea, the jolly female. She is kind of Pluto's opposite in that she likes to joke around, as long as she doesn't hurt anybody, and sometimes she doesn't dare to try hard enough. But we'll turn her into a fighter!
I think I'll box Charon......... when I get 3 other party members. For now I will use them all for PICKUP :B [/misuser]
its been a while but im gona update my challenge for y'all
Started the game............
To the first gym.easy with spinarak. second gym. did the trainers. needed to train for leader so went out and caught a bellsprout (mega lucky!!!) and traded it for a n onix, which swept bugsys team. now i just did the 3rd gym and off to the dome for some fun!!!!
Team:
Scizor lvl 14 AKA theclamps
Staryu lvl 12 (traded) MR.STAR
Crocanaw lvl 18 AKA ProfSnappy
Steelix lvl 21 AKA Rocky
Sandshrew lvl 15 AKA Andrew (female)
Metapod lvl 18 AKA Championay
The ones that have left us
Ratata lvl 4 AKA rats
Togepi lvl 1 Aka Spots
So... after sitting through the unavoidable teaching-Wally-how-to-catch (when he obviously knows how to do without me lifting a finger) I went into the forest. Rhea, Pluto and Charon were on their tiptoes ready and picked up things everywhere. Especially Charon. Guess since he's stuck on lv 3, he wants to compensate by bringing me better things than the ones who are busy fighting do?
And we found a male Silcoon! Whoa. Named him Saturn and evolved him. Neat, a butterfly on the team! And a chicken and three raccoons. Interesting start...
Met Team Aqua in the shape of a little grunt who wanted a battle but should have trained his Poochyena before taking Mercury on. Mercury has learned to breathe fire 8D And is misusing it brutally |D It's so stylish to blow a flame up in the nightly sky. And the daily sky. Into any sky. Into anything. ... Yeah.
Out from the forest, and into a patch of grass, encountering... a Wurmple! Great, now we can evolve it into a Cascoon and have a nice flying duo... but Uranus the Wurmple died a horrible death to a wild Zigzagoon. Who of course got crushed by Mercury's fury. Hm... the fury of Mercury. What a catchphrase. Anyways, Uranus.... such a great name, wasted on someone who died so quickly! Revenge.... I will kill all the wild Zigzagoon I see from now on! Maybe.
RIP Uranus (Wurmple) lv 4
But the story goes on. Coming up to Rustboro, I immediately get the CUT HM and the Quick Claw. Mercury really doesn't need it, but since I want my Zigzagoons to be pick-uppers and neither Merc or Saturn are slow... Merc gets to play with the quick claw for now. And he's liking it, too much. Fast, sharp claws + fire + more speed = deadly.
Moving on to the next road, a new pokémon awaits.... it's a.... Zigzagoon. Am I surprised? No. And I don't even stop to think, in a matter of seconds, it's beaten and forgotten. Pfft. Yucky thing. The only Zigzagoons I can stand now are my own. Who are, of course, pretty and cuddly :3
Trained Mercury up to evolution (and beyond) and he really likes his new legs. Double Kick... a new move to over-use, check! Used it on the whole gym. Turns out we didn't have had to train that much before it... Roxanne went down without Merc even breaking a sweat. Badge get!
And now, I know a place where I HAVE to find a Whismur... me wants one.
Ohhm :t025: Pallet Town. ~Died to a trainer east of Pewter.
Heath :t021: Route 3. ~Died to Blue's Rattata.
Javelin :t021: Route 4. ~Died against a wild Rattata's Quick Attack.
Glint :t004: Route 24. ~Died grinding against a Rattata.
So, I'm just going to finish my challenge as a simple no-heal Nuzlocke.
Last time I looked I was going to take on Jasmine...
So I did.
Wedge, my :t067:, KO'd her :t081: :t081: and then took out her :t208:.
Easy.
The Mineral Badge is mine!
I then ground all my guys up to lv 47, so they'd be at least kind of ready for the E4 if the need arose; as for new pokemon, the Ice Path gave me a :t041: (why am I not surprised?), route 45 a :t074: (oh, joy), and then I got :t129: from Blackthorne. I caught none of them.
Time to take out Claire!
I was happily hacking away at the gym trainers, when something unprecedented happened:
Acidburn, one of my :t073:s, died to a Dragonair's Dragon Rage.
This was the first time I'd ever lost a pokemon in a trainer battle... my pokemon and I all mourned the loss of the Tentacruel called Acidburn that we'd come to know and love.
Obituary:
Acidburn - :t073:, caught route 41, lv 20-47, died in Blackthorne Gym to a lucky Dragonair.
Garotte - :t175:, hatched Violet City, lv 5-9, died to own 'Nomed Selfdestruct
Nox - :t012:, caught Azalea Town, lv 10-15, died to wild Rattata's critted Hyper Fang
Fury - :t129:, caught Olivine City, lv 20, died of Spinarak poisoning
Terror - :t129:, caught Ecruteak City, lv 20, died to wild Rattata's critted Hyper Fang
Acidburn - :t073:, caught route 41, lv 20-47, died in Blackthorne Gym to a lucky Dragonair
They will be missed.
A horrible thing happened as I was about to storm into the Rusturf tunnel. We met a male Whismur, who shouted loud and killed Pluto. Pluto! Rhea and I are so sad ;_________;
R.I.P Pluto, lv 2-9
We turned to the Whismur and wanted to kill it! But... it seemed kind of strong... and it was the only pokémon I could catch in Rusturf. So we did. Named him Mars. He's bragging a bit too much, and he's not really the most gentle person. But we'll see what I can do about that. He will have to WORK hard to make up for our loss. Pluto...
I chose not to train Charon to replace Pluto. Instead Mars got his place, and in Dewford we fished up two Tentacools, named Callisto and Venus. Venus got Charon's place on the team. She has a lax nature and would rather just poison her enemies and watch them die slowly than fight with her fists (tentacles?)
Rhea got the Silk Scarf to hold, and voila. My pickuppers are all gone.
We scouted through the cave and found a Makuhita who I caught and named Jupiter. He's mighty strong but a bit shy and afraid of doing things wrongly.
Now, we take on the gym and Brawly with all we got! Saturn's gust and Mercury's Peck will probably come in handy...
Argh... my DS is back up, being a bit screwy, but...
MY SS HAS BEEN WIPED CLEAN !
Yes, it was in the pocket as well...
So, sorry if there were any readers, but I think I'll do this again on SS. Dunno, but now I am busy with my Scramble Challenge ! :-)
