Final Fantasy actually did strt with rescuing a princess, because at that time, all fantasy games were about rescuing a princess. Final Fantasy got its name from the company that made it, which was bankrupt at the time, deciding that the last game they made would be a fantasy. however, it saved the company, which has since become one of, if not the, most renowned game companies in the world.
