[Life] The Pet Pavillion

My dog used liked chewing on her toys and they ended up destroyed lol. Anyway, she loved balls. I remember that when we'd give her a ball at some point and she played with it for quite a while before she couldn't play with it anymore. I have never properly explored the world of toys, but I watched some videos and noticed that there are very interesting toys, even tho I saw them mostly for cats.

TOPIC: While you were away

When you won't be around, what's your game plan for your pet? Some pets might be able to travel with you, in other situations it might be best to have a friend of family member care for them for awhile, or maybe a trip to one of those pet daycare.

If you have no pets have you ever taken care of somebody else's animal companion for them?

Spoiler:

My dog wasn't used to travel, so even short distances by car weren't the best for her, so we didn't travel with her very often. Our neighbour liked our dog and vice versa, so he'd gladly come take care of her lol. We used to leave her at daycares first, but please check the places before going, because it wasn't the best for her, unfortunately. After only two times, we could easily see that it wasn't the best choice. Nowadays, there are way better options, but back in the days here (small place and around) there were only two centers who offered this service.

HIII I love my cat

I was a dog person for like the first 26 years of my life? Everyone around me had dogs, my family always had dogs so I just interacted with them way more. I was kind of scared of cats because they behave so differently from dogs and my friend showed me a huge scratch she got from a cat once so I just never really wanted to be around cats lol.

But then one of my brothers dated a girl who moved in to their place with her cat and he was so cute and loving, when they broke up my brother really missed having a cat around so he adopted one but he was allergic, so I took him in and fell in love instantly. Now I'm a cat lady! Still love dogs but I think I'm permanently a cat person now and only really see myself having a cat.

Topic!

My cat's pretty good on his own - he has his attention-needy moments but for the most part he seems to be fine as long as we have the essentials out for him, he sleeps a lot (as cats do) and we have cameras set up in his frequently-napped-in areas to check in on him, always just sleeping or looking out the window.

I always try to bring him places but he really doesn't do very well on a leash or in the car, so we decided it's actually less stressful for him to just stay home. He was already 3 years old when I got him so a lot of his habits and traits seem pretty set; I couldn't leash-train him very well and he is by nature on the more skittish side so he does not like trying new things or going to new places.

My parents adore him and love catsitting for us when needed, but as I said they are dog people and really don't know how to treat a cat, no matter how many times I tell them he is not a dog and he doesn't want to be chased around the house or picked up and held, so my cat really doesn't like being in their company, unfortunately. :wynaut-laugh:

The longest we left him alone was a little under two days, we went on a weekend staycation and I had specifically sought a pet-friendly hotel intending to bring him, but my boyfriend eventually convinced me that based on his past record he would be much happier and more comfortable just sleeping in his own home than being dragged around, and he was right. I don't know if he even noticed we were gone longer than a usual outing lol.

My oldest dog Cotton passed away yesterday morning from old age. I nicknamed him the prince because of his noble, elegant appearance. He was a gentle, intelligent, calm, dignified dog who liked cats, was excited by the opportunity to take car rides, had a hearty appetite with an adoration for the taste of cheese and enjoyed sitting outdoors, even in the last days of his life, overlooking his domain.

At nearly 16 years of old he was evidently the equivalent of a human in their late nineties. That's impressive, and an even greater accomplishment for him as large dog, because they don't usually live long, to make it 10 is considered long-lived for his breed Pyrenees. He died in my home on a warm bed, being petted and given his stuffed animals to cuddle. He's buried in my backyard, wrapped in a blanket with some of his toys and favorite snacks to take with him to the afterlife. Fresh cut flowers are on his burial mound, and I played peaceful music for him.

While I wish I could still see him now, I appreciate the blessing of him coming into my life and being part of my family, and am glad that he was able to experience such a long and I think happy time with us. I also hold onto many lovely memories of him that bring me peace and comfort right now. He is a wonderful soul, and may we be reunited some day.

I'm posting photos to celebrate Cotton's life. Here he is.

he looks so sweet <3, and May he rest in peace :((((

Speaking of i had a dog of mine pass away recently too, I've had him ever since i was like very very young and he was 15 when he passed, he's one year younger than me actually!
his name was pudder and while we gave him to our cousins bc we had to move and let him stay with them bc he was already bonded with him, i still really enjoyed visiting him. he also has a brother named eeyore, he's 15 as well, so i cherish every moment with him too bc he probably does not have much time left either sadly...

Hello fellow animal lovers.

I got out of the rhythm of posting here when a certain magical canine passed on, but I think now is a good time for me to return.

I want to also extended my belated condolences to Lavemu. I know it couldn't have been easy to see Pudder cross that rainbow bridge into the sky, but am glad that you have Eeyore to cherish for the time being.

I also want to give a warm welcome some of our newer members Juno and Icycatelf. Glad you have you all here with us, updating our list of animal whisperers 🐾

Introducing the first topic question of 2025. Pet Merch. Have you received or given a pet-themed item as a gift lately?

I did not know until recently huskies sounded like this. They're such beautiful majestic-looking creatures that this crazy sound would be the last thing I expected to come out of one's mouth.

That sounds like an amusing kitty tale, and the silly chihuahua voice was definitely a memorable moment of the day.

I have a video that is hard to not laugh watching, and if you have ever been around cats you know it's so true!
