Before Gen IV, all Normal, Fighting, Ghost, Rock, Ground, Steel, Bug, Flying and Poison typed moves were physical.
All Water, Fire, Grass, Ice, Electric, Psychic, Dark and Dragon typed moves were special.

They changed that in Gen IV though, with moves like Ice Punch becoming physical and Shadow Ball becoming Special.

This has affected a lot of Pokemon.
For example, Gengar has now access to two Special STAB moves, giving it quite the power boost.

My questions to you guys are:

Which Pokemon got a power boost with the new Physical/Special split?

Which Pokemon got nerved with new Physical/Special split?

There are so many, but I can think of few off of top of my head.

Which Pokemon got a power boost with the new Physical/Special split?

    Feraligatr, Gengar, Mightyena.

Which Pokemon got nerved with new Physical/Special split?

Can't think any off of top of my head.

Which Pokemon got improved with the physical/special split?: Hitmonchan (elemental punches became physical), Kingler (Crabhammer got physical), Sneasel/Weavile (STAB physical moves), Feraligatr, Gyarados, Kingdra (physical Water STAB), Gengar (STAB Shadow Ball got special), Blaziken

Which Pokemon got nerfed?: Alakazam (Pursuit became physical and the elemental punches aren't viable options anymore), Suicune (there are now physical Grass and Electric moves to bypass the Calm Mind boosts of CroCune)

    Pokemon that Benefited
Hitmonchan, Gardevoir (Focus Blast against dark types), Absol (STAB type now has primarily physical moves), Sneasel/Weavile, Gyarados

    Pokemon that got nerfed
Alakazam (no more elemental punches, but it got Focus Blast instead, which helps to make up for it), Zubat family (Air cutter, Sludge Bomb and Air Slash became special)
