The PokéGods - do you remember?

    GREETINGS.

I thought I'd make a thread about something that has been with me my entire life in memory, and played big relevance for me when I was a child playing both my Blue game and later my Silver game.
I wanted to ask any of you older generations of players if you too remember the phenomenon often dubbed 'the PokéGods'?
Basically, since the internet was not yet the source of information it is today, rumours and false information was easily spread, especially amongst gullible children like myself. The phenomenon had of course existed for a long time due to the mysterious existence of Mew and Missingno, but
it especially sparked up when Gold and Silver was on the horizon when word spread about the infamous Pikablue, and Oopa.
There were also the case of many cheating-sites and harshly put together fake sites containing information about how to get pokémon like Doomsday, Venustoise and the evolution of Snorlax just to list a few examples.

Basically, the people who wrote these theories were often just douchebags who wanted to trick the gullible fanbase of pokémon into doing excrutiating tasks like defeating the Elite 4 a hundred times, walking around Kanto without flying or using the bike, so on so forth. These PokéGods did
not exist, but we sure believed they did, and some of us might have even tried getting one.

Do you remember any of these PokéGods? Care to write about your memories and experiences with these unexistant beings? It'd be absolutley glorious.

I remember back in Gen 3, I had heard a rumor that you'd get a Jirachi if you beat the Elite 4 100 times and then went to a certain place (I think it was the Route to the east of Mauville).

And I believed it at first, so I tried to beat the Elite 4 one hundred times. Fortunately, I got a Jirachi from a friend's Pokémon Coliseum (or however its spelled) bonus disc before beating the Elite 4 too many times, and stopped. Then I realized that rumor was total crap some time later.

Ah, the likes of Beepin, Spooky, and Charcolt. I remember actually trying to use a Gameshark code to try to get Beepin. The game crashed at some point.

I remember hearing from somewhere that if you had every form of unown in Emerald version, you would be able to catch Mew. I was kind of dumb when I was younger, and I caught all of the unown on LeafGreen and transferred them over to Emerald. (Spoiler Alert, it didn't work.)

I also saw about 5 billion dillion videos of pokemon hacks with evolving legendaries and things like "OMG11! VENUSTOISE IS REAL ITZ ON MAH GAME!11!"

Well, I didn't know these type of rumours were called that way, but the ones I remember turned out to be all true (although not all of them were available in Red/Blue):

Mew - It started as a rumour among friends, that it was a Pokémon only available in the Japanese versions, that you had to beat the E4 10 times and then go to the truck. Of course, when someone actually got a Mew due to the now well known glitch, he didn't tell anyone how he got it. Fortunately it was only a matter of days until the glitch was discovered and almost everybody had one.

Pikablue (a.k.a. Marill) - Well, this was the first clue that there were more than 150 (or 151) Pokémon but it took some time until we realized that it was part of the new games that were going to be released (don't remember where I first saw the artwork, but a kid had it printed). It didn't stop some kids to start spreading the rumour that you could actually catch it in Red/Blue if you did "X and Y and beat Z".

Rainbow Bird (a.k.a Gold Bird, a.k.a Ho-Oh) - Well, this was all thanks to the anime premiere episode. Nobody knew about Gold and Silver yet, so the rumour of going to Viridian City after completing the PokéDex and walk around until the Rainbow Bird appears soon started.

Ah, yes. The PokéGods. I remember reading about them while I was very, very young. The names Pikablu, Venustoise, and Mewthree ring a bell.

I definitely remember reading something about obtaining HM06 ("Jump"), and then jumping over Bill's house into his garden... LOL

never knew they were called pokegods, but yea i remember them, or at least pikablue and venustoise, not sure which one you were supposed to get for beating the elite four 100 times, but i recall roughly having beaten them a lot, in silver anyways. I love to think how gullible i was with that, like beating the elite four would get me pikablue. I think if anyone did beat the elite four 100 times it would have crashed/glitched the game from having all that extra data on it, since it recorded every team you beat them with, and let you go back and look at them, ahh memories lol!

I mean I beat the elite four over 60 times on Pokemon Saphire and never had any problems.
