Ok, don't get me wrong. I partake in some intellectual conversations from time to time on PC. I know how the DCC used to be, but even then, it was rare to see a post the size of the ones Frostweaver's posted here tonight. And if posts did take up as much space as his did, they included various quotes which took up most of the room. There's never really been a time where continual posts consist of multiple paragraphs. You also have to take into consideration the array of ages that post in the DCC as well. There are some posters in here from time to time barely over the age of 10. Not saying that they are stupid or anything, but the conversation has to be one that all age groups can partake in...and are interested in.
By trying to prove me wrong or suggesting the opposite, I believe that I have succeeded in getting what I want already ^_~ Isn't that awesome?
First of all, I'm pretty sure that kids of age 10 can understand what I'm saying for the most part. Afterall, Lily wrote some pretty deep stuff for a 12 year old, thus receiving all the "are you really 12?" statements. Newspapers are targetted at the gr. 5 lvl of english, and they're "pretty darn" long. lol... I'm sure that the difficulty is fine.
When you repeat the "lolz what did you have for breakfast?" line for the 5th time in the month, doubt the conversation can really live so long... Sometimes you must have the long convos to balance it out and spark new topics again, then the one liners (inevitable) twist all possible juices out of it... and the long paragraph comes again to make new topics. Really, it does work out, as long as there's just a several people posting in paragraph (one paragraph, not multiple) and the rest sticking with the one-liners...
He's also whining about the fact that back in teh day, by the time you responded or made a post, there were 10 others in front of yours that weren't there before. That in itself proves that the DCC is and almost always has been, concise, whitty conversation.
Well I only returned cause a MSN convo led everyone back to the "nostalgic" mode so of course I will speak of the past more often than I usually do. ^^;;
I'm not skilled enough with words to make a statement filled with multiple potential topics for people to reply to in one sentence. Certainly it's possible, but that's beyond my abilities to be concise. So, I go for whitty without the precision, but I try if I can.
Actually, back then, people may not post in essays (oh gosh only Chairman Kaga can truly post with lightning speed and in length that triples mine, with a quality that is 5x higher on top of a deep meaning in one package... If I'm not a Christian, I would've hailed him as a divine being) but at least it's not a one liner... More like 22sa's "4 one liner in one post" or just one small paragraph.
"Pokemon forum" = lowered level of discussion? That's not necessarily true... the anime maybe geared for kids, but certainly there are people who are much older. First of all, there's the entire anime section that knows how to watch it with subs and so on, and finding the sub is not the easiest thing for really young kids.
The game section is perhaps even more crazy than the stereotypical image of Pokemon.You got people talking in pure numbers and algebra equations on how to use a Heracross the most effectively in battle. "If you use substitute, be sure to have a x/4 hp, and if it's subversal, make it x/4 + 1, where x is your hp." Really, those forums are gatherings of pure mathematical genius with deadly precision in guessing our your next moves, and outdoing your attacks on every turn.
Jake and his fellow game editors go through the most updated technology and computer softwares to modify the pokemon games to spectacular ends... I don't even know what they're talking about with the hex numbers and whatever. o_O;
There's many reasons why people will like shorter posts, but "it's a pokemon forum" should not be one of them. ^_^ All in all, each to their own taste, but it doesn't hurt for the minority's side to advertise once in awhile. Occassionally, they succeed in snatching a few poor souls to join them ;p
*another super long annoying post by Frosty!*
EDIT: Hi Sui!!!
EDIT2: Hi to you too Altarialover. I'm pretty sure that it's not your age... I simply tend to repeat myself a lot. In forums and MSN, my grammar is horrid beyond compatibility as well. ^^; I am just lazy and keeps using run-on sentences, etc... that's probably why you don't understand me at times.
