Since he was technically Kyle's so travel they did. In Viridian Forest, Kyle met Chris and lost in battle, so he went into intense training and rechallenged Chris, just before leaving Viridian Forest, Mt. Moon, and Cerulean City. In Saffron City, he tried to challenge Team Rocket, but since that was their main base he was beaten quickly and expunged from Silph Co.
