"I think we'll win." Travis muttered.
<Hmm? Nii-san, what are you talking about?> His Pokemon replied.
The two were stretched out in the stands, chatting while the rest of the team prepared for the match- in the corner, Trodite and Raidon were playing a game of "Oicho Kabu", a sort of Japanese blackjack, with Mahiru, who seemed to be winning. Meanwhile, above them, Alice and Hikari were laughing about something or other, as usual. Ryota continued sucking on his egg, while waiting for his "brother" to answer.
"I mean what I said- we won't lose. It's like, you know, I've got this amazing feeling that our opponent, no matter how tough she is, can't win. It'll be a battle made in heaven for you, I think. After all, she is female- which almost gurantees at least one Pokemon will be a girl..." Travis teased, winking at his partner.
<Now we're talkin'! Lead me to her!> The mongoose-like Pokemon grinned. <By the way, can you predict who'll win the next round?>
"Um, yeah. I bet that it'll be... Artemis! Yeah!"
<Would you stake your left arm on it?>
"Um.. yeah! I'd definitely stake it on Artemis-kun winning!"
<Well then, I won't take you up.>
Meanwhile, Alice groaned. <Amateurs. Not a proper gentleman in this bunch, except for Travis-sama. I'm displeased.>
Her friend, Hikari the Absol, stared at her with deep, coal-black eyes. <You know, you've said that same thing since you came with us, Alice-onii-chan. I am beggining to doubt your belief in that statement.> She replied softly, as the breeze traveled through her pearl-white fur. ((Can you tell I like Absol yet?))
With a huff, her jade-green "sister" drew herself to her full height. <Of course I mean what I said! You know I would never say it otherwise!> Her voice was laden with outrage, but her eyes seemed to be unsure. Hikari calculated the odds of her next comment producing its desired effect, weighed the consequences, then changed the wording a bit before replying <Of course, Alice. Forgive me for doubting you- and yet, forgive me for saying that if you truly felt as deeply as you do, would it not be prudent to leave? Travis-sama has given us permission to do so at any time, you know.>
Her Sceptile comrade relaxed visibly. <I apologize, Hikari-chan. Gomen Nasai- I am sorry. I really do think that Ryota-kun and the rest could use a bit more civility- but I love them as they are too. Forgive me- I will not speak so harshly next time.>
<There is nothing to forgive.> Her Absol "Sister" murmured, nuzzling the gecko-like Pokemon affectionately.
Meanwhile, below the two female Pokemon, a different sort of drama took place.
<Oicho! Beat that! I guess I finally win!> the small, mouse-like Pokemon grinned, spreading his cards on the stand-bench.
<But Raidon-kun, I have Oicho as well.> The red and white, ball-like Pokemon beside him commented, gently lowering the metal-backed cards he had been using his electricity to keep aloft onto the table.
<Ee? Nani!?! We tied! Well, I guess we split the pot, my genderless buddy!> The Raichu grinned, rubbing his paws together.
<Wrong- you both lose.> A spectral voice entoned. Both Pokemon turned to see their partner, the oddly-named Mahiru, floating in place as she spread her cards along the table. <Kabu. I take the pot again- which means both of you lose, and you all have to go out first. Again.>
<NANI!?!? YOU CHEATER!> Raidon shrieked, as Trodite did its best to keep him from leaping at the gloating Dusclops.
