The Pokemon League

OOC: Oh man, this is still alive? Firstly, I'd just like to apologise since my health has been declining for the past month and I've only visited the PC to check up and what not (I was in the trivia forum for about a fortnight). Anyway, I was sick and still am, well, a little bit, but I've managed to focus my brain and pull out a post in hopes that those who have abandoned the RP much like I had done will come back. I'd also like to thank those who have stuck with the RP in keeping it alive (you know who you are) and with a little work, hopefully we can get this thing back on the road. Of course if that doesn't happen, I'll probably pull out another "Pokemon League" in about a month XD. I've also attached a little setup of what the heck's going on in the tournament, check it if you'd like.

IC: Miles leant back across the bench as he continued to observe the next battle between Riddel Bowther and Travis Albright. The previous two battles had seen the successful victory of Cain Ritham against Roy Langdon and the unexpected outcome of the battle between trainers Artemis Consel and Blue Genjineko. The Corona Heights tournament had brought together the most diverse and talented group of trainers Miles had ever seen since he began his job in the league several years ago. Now that the third Pokemon battle to conclude the day's events continued, Miles realised that the tournament had just initially begun. The exhibition matches were coming to an end and the beginning of the next day would bring about the fiercest and exciting Pokemon battles that the National League would ever see, and all of talent, knowledge, and experience that were to credit these qualities, now sat in the small locker room and on the battle arena where the final twelve trainers stood.

Miles smiled as he continued to watch the feuding battle between Riddel and Travis. Riddel's Haunter appeared to be enjoying itself a bit too much but did manage to regain some control over the battle, now that its Destiny Bond had struck. Travis' Absol also appeared to be having trouble maintaining a hold on the match, but its mindset appeared strong and looked determined in securing a place in the second round of the tournament for its trainer. The match was still building up and both trainers were still matched with their first Pokemon. The outset of the match was still undetermined with both trainers bringing up a strong front. The anticipation was building as the third and final exhibition match for the day continued.

Travis moved his gaze so that he met the other trainer's eyes. "You have awakened a sleeping giant." he muttered, before nodding to his Absol. "Hikari, time for game over. Shadow Ball that Haunter out of existence before he seals the attack!"

The Absol nodded, gathering another orb of dark energy into her mouth, and launching it directly at the Haunter's body. <I can't lose embarrasingly to an idiot like you... Ryota-kun is watching me... I have to look good for him!> she murmured to herself, glaring at the floating Haunter as she pushed herself off from the ground, rocketing into the sky behind him.

Travis watched, praying the entire plan would work out. Shadow Ball was the strongest attack Hikari knew that could injure ghosts, but spite cut the number of times it could be used nearly in half. With Hikari's already having used Shadow Ball multiple times in succesion, chances were that the game would go to the Haunter if this attack failed. Now, if only he could see at least one other avenue of attack... then he noticed the arena floor was made of stone. Pure rock. Perfect... but the attack would only work if it were timed just right, and the Haunter was in the right position...

OOC: There's a touch of powerplaying in here, if that's alright with you. But it's nothing that wouldn't have happened anyway, because of the attack that Toin used in the first place.

IC: I would've flinched at the unearthly scream that quickly followed, if I wasn't taking a step forward to watch in shock and surprise that Toin had gotten himself hit directly in the face by the powerful shadow ball, which crushed him to the ground and made him scream so loudly. (Actually, I had a faint inkling it was a little louder then he needed to make it.) He writhed on the ground before floating back shakily to his spot in the air and I snapped my fingers, saying, "Fine then- Toin, Curse!" Toin, exhausted from taking the direct and critical hit, smirked and and out of nowhere a long silver nail appeared, hammering itself through Toin as he cackled, being knocked out by his own attack and thus, triggering the Destiny Bond.

"Aaaand thanks to the Destiny Bond, our former champions have taken care of that powerful Absol, but at the price of one of Riddel's most powerful- and unruly, pokemon!" I waved off the announcer who continued to babble, and returned Toin silently. I didn't believe in telling my pokemon "Good job" after they were clean conked out. It was foolish, and useless. I laughed and applauded my opponent, "First time I've seen Toin take a hit accidentally in a long time!" I twirled a pokeball between my fingers, before pressing the white button to make it expand, "I suppose Toin could take a little showing up, couldn't he? Let's go, Metagross!"

With a heavy thud, the metal and blue stone comprised pokemon landed in the arena, the blood red eyes studying his opponent with indifference. Tossing my hair off my shoulder, I gave Travis a thumbs up, "Next round! It'll be different this time!"

Travis's eyes darkened as he replied, "You're right. It will be. Because I'm going to beat both of your remaining Pokemon with only one of mine." His jaw was clenched, and he could barely control his anger as he asked "How could you force your Haunter to injure itself like that? A true trainer would never-"

<Travis. Technically, by ordering Hikari to attack in spite of the destiny bond, you did the same thing...> Ryota interrupted, causing his trainer to trip and fall with embarassment.

Leaping to his feet, Travis regained his poise, before whispering, "Believe it or not, I completely forgot it had used Destiny Bond, and I didn't realize it had until it was too late."

Ryota shook his head. <You're hopeless. I'm going in.> With that, he leaped into the arena, calling out <I'm dedicating this one to all the lovely female Pokemon in our audience today!> Of course, to the people in the stands it just sounded like he was roaring out a battle challenge, but Travis couldn't help stifling a chuckle.

"Okay, now we begin. I'll beat you right here, with only Ryota!" Travis challenged, his eyes blazing.

Riddel let out a shrill laugh, that almost matched Toin's in pitch, but not quite- "A true trainer?? A true trainer knows when to sacrifice for victory and when not to! Did you see Toin hesitate at all?? Only a weak trainer's pokemon won't sacrifice their conciousness for a victory," Riddel waved her hand as if it hardly mattered to her, "But I can see that it's not going to be something that's going to be held against me. It seems like you're awfully chummy with this zangoose of yours!" Riddel continued to talk, having already bored herself with battling, "We'll see how it goes, pitting a pervy pokemon against my most powerful pokemon. If anything, I'll wheedle every last ounce of energy from that zangoose before this round is over."

Metagross rolled his eyes, "It'll be the goal for the day!" Riddel chirped, giving her pokemon a thumbs up, "Iron Defense!" Metagross collapsed, a sweatdrop hanging over his head. It was possibly the exact opposite of the battle plan that was to be expected, but he quickly followed the order, being a much wiser pokemon then his comrade, Toin. Without even waiting to give her opponent a chance, Riddel immediately called for a successive "Agility", causing plenty of different Metagross' to appear in random places about the field.

"I love it when pokemon get so good at agility that they don't have to move in a circle, don't you?" Riddel laughed, as some of the blurring illusions hung in the air, while others clung to the rocks and one even stood where Metagross had been before the agility had been called.

"This technique looks familiar folks! That's right, all you old-timers, this is the technique this Metagross shows up with each and every time we see him! What will Travis do, as opposed to his ancestors?!"

Riddel, however was this close to getting Metagross to stop everything, turn around and shoot a hyperbeam at the announcer. But, she managed to keep her cool, and spared the announcer's life.

"Let me answer your question, Mr. Announcer-guy," Travis smirked, "I'm not going to do anything. I'm letting Ryota take this one. He knows exactly how to deal with this after he lost to that one Metagross..."

With a nod of his head, the white-and-red Zangoose growled, launching himself at the ground. A hole seemed to open the moment he made contact with it, and his white body dissapeared down it.

"Now you're in for a treat folks!" Travis yelled, waving his arms across the arena. Presenting the one-the only- Ryota, master of the broken field!"

Crack!

A spiderweb crack appeared in the center of the field, then, oh-so-slowly, made its way across the entire battling area, including directly under the fake Metagross, which were now clearly obvious due to the fact that their feet weren't moving with the vibrating ground. With a roar, Ryota exploded from the ground directly below the real deal, firing a Shadow Ball point-blank.

Travis smirked. "Don't you just love it when a Pokemon can attack from anywhere as long as he has ground to work with?" he called. "And better yet, don't you love it that Iron Defense doesn't protect a Pokemon like Metagross's underside?"

((Note: That last bit was taken from the anime, during Ash's battle with Flannery in the Hoenn arc. Iron Defense was revealed to be an ultimate defensive move where a Pokemon drew itself into its shell, or guarded itself from frontal assaults, but left its underside vulnerable to attack. Yeah, sorry about that.))

OOC: S'okay. Do you mind if this battle is a little bit more difficult then the last? Because I've got lot's of idea's for Metagross, but uhm. Yeah Metagross wasn't on the ground. < <;; But then again, I wasn't the one who labeled Riddel as the previous champion, so naturally I can't let myself fall for something like that, now can I? xDD I'll PM you though, so we can deal out the battle so that Riddel's most powerful pokemon isn't as weak as Toin, and so that we can finish this quickly.

IC: "I just love it! You've got smarts kid, I mind when I lose to a person who's never even touched a pencil, but it's all good with me when they're smart!" Riddel laughed, "But you're still underestimating me, and Metal-Mouth! Metagross, Earthquake!" The real Metagross relinquished it's illusion on the singular Metagross on the ground, and dropped all it's psychic manipulatives, the heavy metal coming crashing down onto the already cracked and broken field with a heavy, crushing roar, gravity working it's job on such a heavy pokemon. The ground shook violently, as if a sign of the apocalypse, and the ground which had already cracked from the Zangoose crumbled to bits, while Riddel had plopped herself down on the ground so as not to stumble and fall.

"That's good!" Riddel called over the roar of the Metagross in the middle of the field, stomping with all four joints, "Yeah th-that's good Metagross!!"

It was too loud, and the walls surrounding the arena began to crack before Riddel's temper snapped in half and she screeched, "THAT'S GOOD GODDAMMIT, STOP!!!!!"

Metagross immediately ceased his attack and launched himself into the air again, tucking in his four legs and peering down at his opponent from where he was, a swiveling disk against the blue sky.

'A Zangoose shouldn't know any moves that can hit you in the air, unless the kid get's creative again....' Riddel thought to her pokemon, and Metagross' eyes slid over to his trainer.

<'Best be prepared for anything.'> He replied, even though he knew his trainer didn't have the psychic power's he did, <'Most trainers are too "code of honor" to sacrifice their pokemon after Toin uses Destiny Bond.'> Metagross slid his eyes back to the zangoose, <'But this opponent didn't even notice that Toin had used the attack. And yet, he wiped out that joker and beat him at his own game. He's smart too. If I wasn't as smart as I was, the shadow ball would've hit without a doubt...'> He sighed, <'Riddel wouldn't have even realized what he was doing until I took the hit. I hate it when I'm smarter then my trainer.'>

'But you know, I don't mind if you get schooled by that zangoose, so no pressure!'

<'Not exactly any encouragement in this arena either.'> Metagross grumbled aloud, sarcastically, his metallic voice coming out in blurbs and Riddel shooting a fleeting glare at her pokemon before returning to waiting for her opponent's next move.

Normally she was ruthless, cutthroat. She would attack her opponent relentlessly and give them little chance for an opening. But this kid was giving her idea's. Toin could probably figure out how to get past an iron defense with the same move the zangoose used, since he phased through practically everything. An illusion would be easy.

'OOOooh!! I want this battle to be over so I can try it out!!'

Metagross sighed again. Four brains, maybe, but it was still 5 times as many brains as his trainer had.

OOC: Just for the benefit of everyone else, while this post does contain a fair bit of powerplaying, it's because Bijou and I worked out what's going to happen, and we don't want to take up too much more time.

Travis gasped as the Metagross lowered his illusions and came crashing down, only to fly back up into the air. "Ryota! Are you Ok?" he yelled frantically, searching the arena for some sign of his trusted Pokemon.

<Relax, I'm fine. But now I'm mad.> An angry voice coughed, as Ryota's body resurfaced. Shaking his fur to clear it of the debris now clinging to it, he gave vent to a deep, throaty, sinister growl as he stared at the Metagross above him, his eyes glinting with rage. Extending his claws, he roared out a challenge- not words, but an actual roar, passed down through generations of Zangoose.

Travis sized up the situation. The enemy was in the air, so Shadow Ball was out of the question- too easily dodged. He needed an attack that had a better chance of making contact... he took a look at the ground that had been broken up by the Metagross. One fairly large piece jutted into the air- ideal for a springboard. Perfect. "Ryota, leap off that rock and perform a double kick!" he commanded, with an almost majestic wave of his arm.

The Pokemon stopped growling, nodded, and dashed towards the rock, kicking off from the now-broken arena floor with a leap, and feeling his feet make contact with the stone. Without pausing, he launched himself again, this time into the air itself, curling his body into a cannonball shape in order to reduce wind resistance and rolling as he flew. His body flew forward like a bullet as he smashed into the Metagross's body, making contact with the hard metal. The Metal Pokemon groaned as it moved backwards, propelled by the force of the kick.

"Gotcha." Riddel smirked, an almost demonic grin on her face. (Travis would later describe her as "Hell's favorite trainer" because of it, in fact.) "Metagross, Aerial Ace!"

With a metallic roar, the gigantic hunk of metal swung itself backward, flying towards the falling Zangoose at a speed that dizzied Travis. The helpless trainer could only watch as the Pokemon rammed into his beloved Zangoose, bearing both of them down to the arena floor. He could see Riddel, still smirking, as much as to say Who's the true trainer now?

Then the smoke the attack had launched cleared, and the audience, announcer, and combatants all gasped at what they saw. The Metagross's giant body was being held at bay by Ryota's claws. Try as it might, it couldn't push past their defense.

"Nice move with the Detect, Ryota!" Travis grinned.

"PERFECT SET-UP, EH METAL-MOUTH?!" Riddel yelled over the creaking metal as Metagross continued forward with his Aerial Ace, "Let's clean up the filth with an Explosion!!" With a great metallic roar that burned at the eardums, a great explosion engulfing the area around Metagross that practically demolished the middle portion of the arena. Pulling out two pokeball's, both of them colored black with sharpie, Riddel called back the knocked out Metagross and released her final pokemon-

"Blow that kid to smithereens! Mach!" A heavily scarred Blastoise landed heavily onto the field on all fours, a scar on the edge of it's mouth pulling up the edge of his mouth into a permenantly sinister smirk, the canon's on it's back loading themselves to prepare for the next battle.

<'Metal Mouth and Toin eh? Interesting, should be a fun battle! Too bad Shuppet didn't get her vengence, and Elic'll never let you hear the end of it. Not that he ever stop's talking either way.'> Mach's smirk widened as he glared through the dust that was still whipping about from the extremely demolishing pocket ace. Riddel didn't respond as she was staring at the silhouette in the tornado of dust, a focus band on the stubborn Zangoose.

"Damn it!" Riddel cursed, "Die already!! Mach, Rapid Spin!"

The Blastoise reeled up for the spin before retreating into his shell, spinning as fast as he could possibly go, all the while headed straight for the silhouette...

"Hmph." Travis glared, before waving his arm to the side. "Ryota, leap!"

The Zangoose obeyed the command, leaping over the whirling shell to land on the far side of the arena.

"Great! Now use-" Travis began, before a large, lightning-bolt shaped tail whacked him in the face. "And what do you want?" he asked, glaring at Raidon.

<What I want,> the small electric mouse snarled, <Is my moment in the spotlight! Ryota's had his chance, now I want a turn. Switch us out, now!>

Travis nodded. "Eh, I suppose you're right." Turning back to the arena, he called "Change of plans, Ryota! Raidon wants to take over, and you know what he's like when he doesn't get to participate in a battle as cool as this!"

The mongoose nodded, a ragged grin on his face. <Probably a good thing too. After that Metagross, I doubt I can take on a secong opponent.> He replied, laughing softly. <A chick would be one thing, but my secret move doesn't work against other guys...>

Travis grinned in agreement. "If it did, you'd probably be frowned upon by members of normal society." he agreed, before calling to his opponent, "Sorry, Riddel, but I'm switching out! Raidon here wants to finish this battle, and he's not too happy about your suicidal attacks either!" Without another word, Ryota leaped into the air- a last hurrah- coming down beside Travis, who, without another word, pointed to the Blastoise. "Raidon, fry him!"

The Raichu leaped into the arena. <Seeya, sucker. I'm gonna rip you apart so quickly that you'll look like turtle soup!> he grinned, narrowing his eyes. Then, without warning, his cheeks began to spark, as they collected static electricity. With an almost vengeful cry of "CHU!!!" he released it as a glowing burst of energy that seemed to cause the entire stadium to crackle for a moment.
