T'is done. Over. At long last.
I wanted to use this game for something else, so instead of giving up, I bumrushed through the remainder of the challenge. I don't really remember details, so forgive the bare-bones update.
Spoiler:
-Did a touch of grinding to get some levels on the team, and Bulette evolved into Lairon. Now she can live up to her name.
-Taught Harmony surf and went east to do the Latios event with Steven. Wondertraded the Latios off, because why not, and made my way to the Berry Masters house, then back and up to the weather institute. Oh, and Swiffer learned Dazzling Gleam.
-Cleared the Weather Institute out, they can keep their castform I dun wannit. Fought Brendan across the bridge. It was a clean sweep.
-Got to Fortree, left Fortree, got the Devon Scope, back to Fortree. To the Gym!
-Led with A-SPLODE to set up rocks, then let Bulette take care of business. Not bad at all. Sixth Badge!
-Out of Fortree and down the long, tedious road to Mt. Pyre. In the rain. Barefoot. Uphill both wa- Okay, I'm stopping.
-Did Mt.Pyre, then down and across to Slateport (Not having fly stood out right about here) then the ferry to Lilycove. Skipping everything past the Safari Zone.
-Battled Brendan again, and delivered the pain. To the Magma Hideout!
-Cleared it out, got Master Ball, off to Mossdeep. No detours.
-Straight to the Gym, leading with Harmony and Buggernaught. Easy badge. I don't care for how ridiculously easy they made Mossdeep gym. Seventh Badge!
-ZOMGERG GROUDON> And a nice chat with Steven.
-I didn't really want to teach Harmony Dive, so I caught a Gyarados named Mr.Swimmy to fulfill my waterfall/dive/strength/rock smash needs. Went to the cavern, Maxie got the work, Groudons awake, time to save the world.
-To Sootopolis! Spammed my A button to get through all the text, and began the trek down to Groudon. Thought about trying to catch Groudon without the Master Ball, but after OHKO'ing half my team, nah.
-Master Balled him, named him Cataclysm, and wonder traded him too. For the record, I release what I receive.
-More dialogue, cutscene, dialogue. Eon Flute, dialogue.
-Took a minute to go find the Pinsirite, a little extra oomph in the team can't hurt.
-Swept every living thing in Wallaces gym with Mega Pinsir. Eighth Badge!
-Soared back to Lilycove and Fallarbor to do some last-minute move adjustments.
-Through Victory Road! These levels will be the deciding force in the league. Pretty sure I'm still underleveled.
-Took away everstones and fixed up the teams items, bought some extra supplies, and into the E4!
-A-SPLODE kicked off the fight against Sydney by setting up hazards and Bug Biting his way through 2 mons. Until the Shiftry, who killed half the squad before I took it down with Gabriel. Then finished the rest with Buggernaught.
-Led with A-SPLODE again to put down them pointy things, and switched to Gabriel. Foul Play on everything, and won against the second E4.
-Set down the rocks, but didn't bother with the spikes against Glacia. Buggernaught was doing fine, until the Walrein, who punched holes in the team until Buggernaught took him down. This is more difficult than expected.
-Set up rocks against Drake, then A-SPLODE went down. Harmony covered decently with Psychic, but Bulette had to take out the Salamence. Swiffer hasn't really had an opportunity to do much yet, due to frailty.
-Finally. Steven. Here we go...
-Led with Gabriel, since Toxic Spikes will be nullified by all the Steel-Types and rocks won't help enough to matter. Skarmory got up 3 layers of spikes before finally going down to Incinerate. Armaldo was next, OHKOing half the team before I had to bring in Buggernaught to stop the carnage. Revived Gabriel to take out Claydol, and Aggron Earthquaked Bulette to Oblivion. By the Time I got to Mega Metagross, all I had left was Buggernaught and Gabriel. Buggernaught managed half of the Metagross' HP, but then got one-shot by Giga Impact. Gabriel came in to bring the victory with Foul Play. Champion!
The Final Team:
Swiffer
Lv.50 | Quiet | Cute Charm
Calm Mind
Hyper Voice
Dazzling Gleam
Wake-Up Slap
I've never used Minccino or its evo's. She was very good early game, but couldn't keep up later on, especially against the bulky beasts on Stevens team. Despite that, she was cute, and I enjoyed having her. I may just give Cinccino a shot now.
Gabriel
Lv.53 | Serious | Illusion
Foul Play
Incinerate
Feint Attack
Aerial Ace
Ah, Zorua. I thought he would be much like Minccino, weak in late game, but he was astoundingly... viable. He lived hard hits and hit back quite hard, especially with Foul Play, remaining a staple on the team even in the E4. Definitely my favourite team member.
A-SPLODE
Lv.51 | Impish | Sturdy
Bug Bite
Explosion
Stealth Rock
Toxic Spikes
Um... Pineco was... bulky. Never used one before. He could eat hits pretty well, but really only contributed with those entry hazards. And then exploding. Though, credit where it's due, he did work against Sydneys dark-types with bug bite. But I wouldn't use a Forretress or Pineco again.
Harmony
Lv.52 | Adamant | Own Tempo
Nasty Plot
Psychic
Surf
Flamethrower
I don't remember ever using Slowking before, but Harmony put in work. She ate hits and hit back hard. Not the most exciting pokemon I've used, but she did her job and did it well. I may end up using Slowking again.
Bulette
Lv.53 | Brave | Sturdy
Superpower
Rock Slide
Earthquake
Iron Head
I've used Aggron before, and Lairon was a smaller, weaker version. Shocker, right? But she pulled the team through many a time with her great defense and respectable attack, plus her move diversity made sure she had an answer for any opponent. Would use again. And you know, Lairon is a pretty cool pokemon. Yeah, Bulettes pretty darn cool.
Buggernaught
Lv.53 | Naughty | Hyper Cutter/ Aerilate
X-Scissor
Storm Throw
Strength
Swords Dance
Ah, Buggernaught. This guy gets the medal for MVP on the team, from early on to the Champion, he was a brute. Through sheer power, he plowed through many a dangerous threat to his team. I've never used Pinsir, I assumed he was sub-par, but this playthrough really shed some light on him. I'd use him again, Mega Pinsir is great.
This run fell a little flat for me towards the middle, but I enjoyed it quite a bit at the start and finish. NFE's really add some challenge, hehe.
Hey, been absent from the forums and kinda wanna restart my challenge runs, thought this one would be the place to start

Okay, I finally got my first badge so I reckon it's time for an update:
Picked a Piplup as my starter and named him Plip Plop. There is a lot more talking and running back and forth than I remember in this game. But anyway on the way to Sandgem town Plip Plop grew to level 7. Got my Pokedex and Pokeballs and started searching around on route 202 for a Bidoof. Found a Kricketot instead and was happily surprised, I didn't remember them being on that route. Named her Jiminy and put her at the front of my party to train her as I kept searching for a Bidoof. I kept Plip Plop on at the time to back her up since she wouldn't have fared well in battle on her own. I found what I was looking for and named her Bibi. Once I had the Bidoof I boxed Plip Plop and stuck around on routes 201 and 202 to train them, focusing more on Bibi so I could get her evolved into a Bibarel before the first gym. Jiminy kept getting hit with criticals, in one battle twice in a row. The other Pokemon were really not liking Jiminy. Got them both to level 10 on 202 and Jiminy evolved into a Kricketune. After that I made my way to Jubilife City. Battled the two kids in the school and moved on to battle my rival, which was a walk in the park really. After that I spent a while longer training Bibi up until she finally evolved into a Bibarel. Then it was time to go take on the Gym. Bibi totally wrecked him, she didn't have a scratch on her by the end of the battle.
(Edit)I've gotten my second badge now so:
Taught Bibi Rock Smash and this ended up helping me get past Mars. I usually have trouble with her Purugly but all it took was a Rock smash and a Headbutt from Bibi to take it down. Bibi's really rocking it. Went through and battled every Trainer on the way, didn't have to grind a bit Mostly used Jiminy in the gym battle, her Sing and Fury Cutter were a big help. When it came to Roserade all it took was a Sing and a couple Headbutts from Bibi to take it down. I'd been worried about sending her out and the Roserade waking up before fainting but once again Bibi pulled through for me spectacularly.
Just got my third badge, also decided I hate Ghost types all the time forever. I got my butt handed to me by Fantina's Mismagius, twice. Finally decided to teach Bibi Thief, I really didn't want to get rid of any of the moves she already had but Water Gun wasn't cutting it. I would have Jiminy put her Pokemon to sleep and then switch out to Bibi and have her use Thief. Poor Bibi got Burned and almost fainted because the Pokemon would keep waking up after three turns but she did it. I can always count on Bibi to pull through it seems. Battle with my Rival after was really easy though. Staravia got taken down with one Hyper Fang, Jiminy got the Grotle with a Sing and it stayed asleep long enough for Jiminy to faint it with a few Fury Cutters. His next two Pokemon were a Ponyta and Buizel but Bibi took them both down in two turns each.
Got my fourth badge
Caught a Marill on Route 215 and named her Marina. Stuck around the area training her up to be around the same level as Jiminy and Bibi before moving on, she evolved into Azumarill. Once I had her at level 30 it was off to Veilstone to take on Maylene
Maylenes Lucario was a bit of trouble but a little change in team line up was all I needed to do. Jiminy took down her Meditite with a X-Scissor, She send out her Machoke and Marina managed to take it out with a Double Edge and a couple Bubblebeams. Of course after that was her Lucario. Jiminy got it with a Sing and against my better judgement I sent out Bibi having her use Rock smash. My hand slipped and I only got in one Rock Smash and an accidental Amnesia before Lucario woke up and took Bibi down with a Force Palm. But that one Rock Smash did end up lowering it's Defense. Afterwards I sent out Marina. She was able to get a couple Bubble Beams in and lower Lucario's Speed before fainting. At this point I felt certain I was going to lose again, all I had left was Jiminy and he had already gotten pretty banged up by Lucario's Metal Claw. But you know, it ain't over til it's over and it sure wasn't over for me. Jiminy got the first move and put Lucario to sleep with a Sing again. The Lucario stayed asleep long enough for Jiminy to whittle it down with a few X-Scissors. So a big round of applause to Jiminy, with thanks to Bibi and Marina for they're help in lowering the Lucario's stats
Got a Hippopotas in the Ruin Maniacs Cave after using a Honey, I named her Gayle. I spent a while training her up until she was at level 30 and on the way to Pastoria she evolved. Before going to challenge Wake I went into the Great Marsh to catch my Croagunk, named him Croak. Because of his Ability I put him in the front of my party to go challenge Wake, but had to battle my rival first. Switched out to Bibi and she took his Staravia down with a Hyper Fang and a Water Gun, almost got ko'd by it's Endeavor. Sent out Jiminy against his Grotle, Jiminy got it with a Sing as usual and took it down with one X-Scissor. Used Marina against his Ponyta and all it took was one Bubblebeam. I sent out Croak against his Buizel so Croak could get some experience, Croak took it out with a Revenge and a Faint Attack while the Buizel kept coming at him with ineffective Aqua Jets. Had to make a trip back to the Pokemon Center to heal before I could go back to my Gym challenge, thanks a lot Barry.
I kept Croak at the front hoping he would be able to help out and get experience but the poor Mon didn't stand a chance in there, at least he got experience but not much. Wakes first Pokemon was a Gyarados, I switched Croak out for Bibi. Gyarados kept coming at her with Waterfalls and Bites but with Hyper Fang and a Moomoo milk she managed to beat it. I thought sending Croak back out against his Floatzel would be alright but he got taken down to the red by an Ice Fang, he did get a Revenge in at least but after that I switched out to Marina. She held a Shell Bell and I had her start with Aqua Ring so she could heal up the HP she would lose when I had her used Double Edge. I tried to keep her health up with Moomoo Milks as well but in the end I got careless and she was taken down by a Crunch. Jiminy was able to hit Floatzel with an X-Scissor making it faint, but not before she got knocked down to less than half of her HP. Sing failed to hit his Quagsire, a Rock Tomb lowered Jiminy's Speed. I healed her up with a Moomoo Milk but two Rock Tombs later she was out. I sent out Gayle, I knew she had a type disadvantage but I was set on getting that Quagsire asleep so I had her use Yawn. Gayle took a bad hit from a Water Pulse but she managed to hold on and the Quagsire was soon asleep. I then just kept having Gayle use Crunch until it finally fainted. Yet another victory and another badge for me!
Caught my Swablu, named him Azul. Doing a bit of level grinding before taking on my next gym and Azul evolved into Altaria! Croak also evolved into a Toxicroak, the team's complete!
Battled with Barry on my way to challenge the gym. I had Croak up front and switched to Marina. Despite raising it's evasiveness twice Marina was able to hit it with a couple Surf's getting it down into the red. Then it took itself out with a Take Down. Sent Azul out against his Torterra. He managed to get it with a Sing but it woke up the next turn, he was in the air for a Fly attack so at least he didn't get hit. But after it landed a Leech Seed on him. A Bite got Azul's health down to the yellow, I used Sing again and switched out to Jiminy. Torterra stayed asleep this time and Jiminy took it down with an X-Scissor and a Leech Life. Sent Bibi out against the Rapidash, started off with a Water Gun. Didn't do quite as much damage as I was hoping but a Hyper Fang in the next turn ko'd the Rapidash. Sent Azul back out against his Heracross. On Fly was all it took. Switched to Croak when he sent out his Floatzel. It just kept using Aqua Jet which was just useless thanks to Croaks Ability, a few turns later Floatzel was down and that was that.
Went to Iron Island to train like Barry suggested and it did help with pushing my team's levels along.
Got my sixth badge, with two water types, a ground type, and a fighting type on my team this was easy. Only needed Gayles Earthquake and Marina's Surf, all three of his Pokemon got taken down in one hit.
Just got my seventh badge. Jiminy took out Sneasal with an X-Scissor but took a bit of damage from it's Aerial Ace. Sent Marina out against her Piloswine and got a Surf in, Earthquake did a lot of damage to her. She switched out to Abomosnow and I switched to Croak, he took some damage from a couple Wood Hammers but was able to take it down with a Poison Jab. After that Piloswine was out again and Marina took it down with another Surf. Froslass gave me a lot of trouble but with a sandstorm brewing and lots of healing items I eventually beat it.
Got my 8th badge, with Gayle on the team it was really easy. She oneshotted all his Pokemon with Earthquake. What you got to say now Vokner, huh.
