The time frame

    So, we know that these games will be an "alternate story" set in Alola. We're not sure if they'll be sequels, or remakes, or something else entirely. So, here's my question, and something interesting to discuss - what do you think the time frame for these games will be? Will they be set before, during, or after the events of SM? Which would you most like to see? How would you expect things to change if they were set before or after SM?

    The more I think about it, the more "10 years later" or "30 years before" sounds more appealing, from a character design perspective.
     
    Yeah. They are not gonna make the games ten years later or thirty years before. That is too much. I think these games have the same timeframe as SM. Just with an alternate story.
     
    I expect it to be like Emerald and Platinum, the same time period, in an alternate universe. Now whether the changes will be small, like in Platinum where not much changed except Giritina appeared, or things will be so different as the Pokemon League has already been established (they did this with Emerald to a lesser degree, as Wallace became the Champion, replacing Steven, but in the R/S and ORAS timelines this happens after Brendan/May become the champion. If this would happen, who knows what they could do in SM?)

    I'd love to see them explore the whole "alternate realities" thing more, and give more explanation to the Ultra Wormholes too. I wanna learn more about what happened with Anabel and Looker, is the Looker in SM even the same Looker we've come to love and know from Platinum, BW and XY?
     
    While it would be cool to have these games set before the events of SM, I'm thinking they will take place a couple of years after similarly to past titles. I can understand why people think these will be alternate games taking place at the same time, but I just don't see that happening for some reason.
     
    I'm not sure tbh, I originally thought they would happen at the same time, due to the whole alternate universe thing. But now Blue has brought it up, I can also see the games being set a couple of years after Sun and Moon.
     
    Blue has a point. While the whole "alternate story" may suggest it took place at the same time as S/M, I can also imagine that these games taking place a few years later would probably make more sense.
