All sillyness aside, I'm going to presume that Legendaries are still out. Because even with only one, hacking a mewtwo in would make short work of the challenge, thereby removing the 'challenge' out of it. Then it would be just 'Psychic Monotype'. Lol.

So yeah, I'm still level grinding, due to me being pretty sure I have to beat the Gyms with only my challenge type, and due to the only psychic I have being at level 14 still. Magic needs to hurry up and work his Magic and get stronger.

Update #4 on my HeartGold grass monotype run, with 8 badges still.

Spoiler:

-Kimono Girls battles! That Flareon was a problem; took down half my team, I believe. The Jolteon also knocked out my Tangrowth thanks to Double Team and paralysis hax.
-Did the Bell Tower (?, I'm used to calling it Tin Tower) thing with Ho-oh.
-Got a new HM Slave, Quagsire, for the whole Victory Road area. Had to ditch my Tangrowth in the meantime.
-Victory Road... Golbat are the embodiment of evil.
-Especially the rival's Golbat. Sneasel was a bit of a jerk, Typhlosion was scarily troublesome, but that Golbat was an annoying pain! Then I easily took out the last three (Magneton, Haunter, Kadabra) with my Sunflora's Sunnybeam combo.
-Brought Tangrowth back on to the team, and we're currently grinding.

I've also started my FireRed run of this challenge. So far, I have two badges.

-Started with Bulbasaur, named him Garlic.

-Beat Rival ProfOak, using up my Potion because of a lucky crit. Worth the experience.
-Delivered the parcel to the old Professor Oak.
-On Route 1, caught a Seedot named Fava. Wait, Seedot? What are you doing here? I'm not planning on training one in Emerald, and Kanto (FireRed) only has five grass-type families, so...

-Did some grinding, and took on the rival again. Leech Seed to victory!
-Got through Viridian City and Forest, and made it to Pewter.
-Beat Brock and got the Boulder Badge! Not a particularly exciting battle.
-Fava evolved... Huh? Oh, probably need the National Dex for that. I found a cheat for that, but I shouldn't use it until I get the Tea from the old lady in Celadon or something.

-Mt. Moon - caught Cassava, the Paras. I'll train it for real this time! Also, Garlic evolved.

-Reached Cerulean and beat Rival again. That Pidgeotto is dangerous.
-Caught an Oddish north of Cerulean and named her Arugula.

-Got the S.S. Ticket.
-Beat Misty and won the Cascade Badge! A bit more exciting than Brock's battle.

-Reached Vermillion and cleared the route east of it.
-Caught some more pokémon so I can get Flash later.

Update time.

So, my Abra Finally evolved, so I immediately took on Roark's gym. I wiped the floor with the first two trainers, not bothering to ignore them, as I was confident in Magic.Then, I went after Roark himself. With his Geodude,Cranidos and Onix only being levels 12, 14 and 12 again respectively, It was an easy win, due to Magic needing to be at Level 16 to even become a Kadabra, and then gained another level in the gym itself for a total of being at level 17, coming out of the gym leader battle at level 18.So...

...I received the Coal Badge.

HUZZAH's all around. I've finally gotten somewhere!

After that, I made my way to go back to jubilife, to use rock smash in the cave to the north...or that was my plan, but apparently Barry had other ideas.He didn't fight me like I expect though. He just ran off, as usual. I was going to go further, but I acidentally closed out my emulator. (Thank goodness I had saved after the badge, though.)

Ok here is my first update:

-Choose Charmander as starter named him Slave
-Did all the start stuff parcel etc
-Grinded Charmander to lvl 18 so i could beat brock
-Beat brock with metal claw
-Went to route 3 and caught my first real team mate nidoranF named her Poison
-trained Poison on route 3 for a while
-Went into Mt.Moon and Poison Evolved into Nidorina
-I then found a moon stone and evolved poison again into nidoqueen
-Beat the team rocket grunts and got to Cerulean and did the thigs with Bill
-Beat Misty with Poison quite easily
-Got to Saffron and kept walking until i got to vermilion
-I went into diglett cave and caught me the second pokemon of my team Hori the Diglett
-I then went onto the S.S Anne and did the normal boring stuff and hori evolved into dugtri
-I then went and taught cut to Slave so i could get into Lt. Surge's gym and beat him with ease.
-I then did all the boring stuff and got back to cerulean and used cut to get to route 10 and get to rock tunnel
-I got through rock tunnel and then walked to Lavender
-And i have saved there
