Alvender was going to deny anything happened to them, but Skye beat him to the punch. Then Sun Xeng asked if she wanted him to give her some of his own energy. "I don't think that a wise move. For one, converting that type of energy is always risky no matter how strong you are. For two you, and all of us under instruction, are too weak, and inexperienced. It's too risky of an operation," Alvender put in bluntly, this time he was being protective, he had lost Skye once, even if for only a brief amount of time.

"It's best if Skye regains her own strength," Alvender put in lightly, not wanting to sound like Lucas. Actually Lucas should be here giving the same offer, he thought, I mean it was him he did it, possessed or not. "We're both tired, and it'll do some good just to sit, rest, and enjoy the beautiful day," Alvender said, more to Skye than to Sun Xeng.

Alvender felt the comfortable feeling that he used to recieve from Quasak as he poked and proded with Alvender's memories. Being thankful that he protected Alvender from viewing the memories as Quasak pryed through his mind. "I think it best if you find a mentor, if you have that much energy that you can spare to Skye, I'd say that you're ready for instruction," Alvender said coolly to Sun Xeng.

"What you really think so?" He asked Alevander smiling. He got really Excited.
"Where do I go to ask for an instructor." He asked in the same excited tone.

Alvender thought for awhile, to tell the truth the Headmaster had come to him and told him to go with Lucas. "I'd check with the headmaster, his office is near the enterance to the Academy. It's hard to miss, huge red oak door. Plus it says Headmaster's Office, on it. I bet he'll have someone you can train under," Alvender said with a polite smile.

"Ok thank you so much Alevander." He said smiling. He walked off towards the head teachers office. He knocked on the door and waited for an answer.

"He's...a strange one..." Skye muttered half-heartedly, watching Sun Xeng leave. She pet Yukiko, and looked rather thoughtful

Her near-death experience had indeed been an interesting, if not incredibly frightening one. But when she had severed her link with Yukiko, she felt her soul spiralling towards a blinding white light, and when she had reached it, she had never felt so calm or peaceful.

"Not yet, little one," a voice had said to her. "You still have much to accomplish. Use caution, for you can only be sent back once..."

Alvender's and Yukiko's love had pulled her back into her body, had called her so fast that she could not begin to ask questions, but it was for the better. She did not want to be without either Alvender or Yukiko.

Contented, she lay her head on his shoulder, smiling softly.

"Why do you depend on Yukiko's link?" Alvender asked softly, he knew it was random, but after the events that had just unfolded a few minutes ago, it opened up a whole new side of curiousity towards Skye. "Quasak and myself don't depend on the link between us, even when he was linked to me all day everyday when I was younger. We would have to disconnect, if you will, for long periods of time after like a year or so of being linked, and it never phased either one of us. A link is something not developed at birth, it's a required thing, and the advantage is being able to link minds and seperate whenever the dragon or it's companion felt the need to. You're 16, or around there, even if you were one of the few born with a link to a dragon, wouldn't you be over it by now and not be completely dependent on your dragon to stay alive?" Alvender explained, his tone wasn't harsh, but full of a strange curiousity.

"And if all who have the link to a dragon are dependent upon the dragon for life...then why was I able to live so long without it?" Alvender said again, it didn't make sense to him, no logical explanation offered an answer to Skye's dilemma, or Alvender's fortunate defect.

"I was linked to Yukiko when I was born," Skye explained. Her tone was neutral. She'd never been asked this question before. "I'm not dependant on her for my life, nor is she dependant on me for hers. We're a team...we move as one, and to be completely truthful, that's the only reason I was called here to the academy. Together, we're a powerful weapon, but separately, we're mediocre. Yukiko is my best friend...we share our minds, we keep no secrets. We've been through everything together."

She looked down at the little dragon with a smile.

"I don't feel complete without her," Skye told Alvender, a very fond, warm love showing in her eyes. "It's not a matter of not being able to exist without each other, it's a matter of not wanting to exist without each other."

She looked over at Alvender, feeling much more herself now that she had had time to regenerate.

"It's a matter of love then, I suppose," she finished.

The head master opened the door.
"Oh hello young one whats the matter?: He asked curiously.
"I would like an instructor if at all possible sir?" Sun Xeng asked smiling. The head master raised an eyebrow.
"I havent seen you around before are you sure?" He asked.
"Ofcourse i can't wait" Sun said in excitment. The head teacher walked back in the building signalling him to come in.
"There is only one teacher left at the moment. Orphen" He said happily smiling.
"So that means he can be your instuctor I will get him to come tomorrow What's your name?" He asked.
"My names Sun Xeng" he said smiling.
"And thank you so much sir i really apreciate it" He said happily. He bowed and walked off.

OOC: OOOO long post yay

Alvender wanted so badly to engage in petty human debates of philosophy, but held himself back, remembering that they were in fact a race apart, and that they view themselves, and the world differently. "Very keen philosophy. Not many view their gift as such," Alvender said, keeping his tone soft and warm. He didn't want to argue with her over what was right and what was wrong.

Personally he felt, that a dragon's link can be restricting, and leave you feeling exposed. Maybe he was talking from experience, or maybe it was just because of the different natures of their two races. No, that argument could wait for a more appropriate time, a time when they were by themselves, maybe when Yukiko left and didn't have a chance to influence her.

"I must also warn you. Such a...love...as you put it, can lead to very very bad consquences. Many time fatile, so just a precaution, spend some time alone," Alvender said, not wanting to debate his warning, but just a side thought. He was right about being careful around Lucas, and he didn't feel comfortable knowing that Yukiko was linked to her mind every waking moment, only to leave for short moments.

"Well, it seems you have your recovering nicely. I'll leave you two alone, to talk openly without anyone budding in, meanwhile I have an old friend waiting for me," Alvender said, getting to his feet, as he mentioned his own dragon that had been waiting patiently to be reunited with his master. "And remember my warning," Alvender threw in quickly before jogging off to find Quasak.

"It's good to see you, Alvender," Quasak remarked as he set his eyes on Alvender as he approached him.

Alvender soon found his dragon resting in one of the many fields surrounding the Academy, in his dragon form. "And good to see an old friend," Alvender said wrapping his arms around Quasak.

"Why didn't you call me?" Quasak roared with concern. "I would have taken down that plantation faster than you can say 'dragon'!" Quasak boasted as he stood up straight, to so his huge rippling muscles and how much his body matured over the course of a decade.

"I thought you dead with the villagers," Alvender admitted.

"Your friends are still alive too. looking for you as a matter of fact. I say after this academy, we go find them," Quasak offered.

Alvender thought about it, truly wanting to go back to the way things used to be. At last, he shook his head, "Things are different than they were back then. I'm a different elf. Besides I have a young lady that...to tell you the truth...I need, probably more than she needs me," Alvender said, a hint of blush on his cheeks as he mentioned Skye.

"Ah yes, the human girl," Quasak said slowly, yet curiously. "I never image you falling in love with a human."

Alvender chuckled, neither did he. In fact he at one time thought he'd be the first to slay a human female before he'd even consider them being friends. "Time changes people, even elves," Alvender remarked, more philosophical than anything else.

"It certainly does. But why her?" Quasak said, which surprised Alvender at how blunt the question seemed.

"She's helped me with my past, no one else was able to do that," Alvender said, not truly thinking about, or caring, why he chose here.

"A safety blanket?" Quasak offered, this was indeed not the same Alvender he had tried to save those many years ago.

Alvender stopped there, questions rose in his mind. Was that all she was to him? A safety blanket? Is that all that their relationship meant to them? To tell the truth, Alvender was beginning to doubt himself, thinking himself foolish. There was truly no reason to love this one particular human, he could offer nothing, he could even name one reason other than the fact of a safety blanket why he loved her. She had helped him, that was the only reason, and because she loved him...but why did she love him? He didn't know, and didn't care to exploit the matter until Quasak raised the question.

Skye watched Alvender go, her expression neutral once again. She looked down at Yukiko with a sigh. The dragon stirred, sensing her anxiety, and offered her a warm gaze. Each knew what the other was thinking, and it was not an awkward feeling, but rather one of comfort. It was not the first time Skye had wondered about separating their minds for a long period of time, and Yukiko was far from offended.

The consequences, they both knew, would be tough at first. Their dependance of each others' reasoning was sixteen years strong. Their mind link kept each other in check: Skye's temper, and Yukiko's passivity. The two worked so well together, that they could not imagine working apart, as separate minds.

"Are you strong enough to go flying?" Skye asked her aloud. It was strange to actually speak aloud to Yukiko, as most of their conversations consisted of thought shards and feelings, but it wasn't a bad thing...just different.

Yukiko nodded. They walked out to the courtyard, and Yukiko changed to her full size. Skye climbed aboard her back, and they took off into the evening sky, the wind playing with their hair, Skye's robes. She held her staff along Yukiko's back, prepared to defend themselves if necessary, but this was time for them to be truely alone together, to be able to speak to each other freely.

We could try it...Skye suggested thoughtfully. If we hate it, we can always link back.

The link may be changed if we go for too long. Are you prepared for that? Yukiko asked her, gliding through the air with fluid ease.

I...don't know. I don't think I will know until we try it...if we do...Skye admitted. She felt more hesitant about it than ever. It's weird...you know? It's like those girls back home in Kaze...when they'd be humming and hawing about whether or not to stop seeing a boy...whether it would change their relationship completely or make them better off.

There is a difference between the two situations, Yukiko told her. I am not seeking the companionship of another creature. And there would be no hostile feelings between the two of us. If anything, it would be good for us to be able to grow independantly. I think we'd be better off for it.

Skye was silent. She was suprised. Yukiko was never so foward about things. Usually it was Skye who bluntly stated what she felt.

Well....let's try it then... she agreed, as they flew back towards the castle. The sky was growing steadily darker, bringing on the dangers of the night.

While Skye was off finding her ownself, Alvender was in a field with Quasak seriously contemplating all the questions that rose up in his mind. "I didn't meant anything by it, Alvender. I suppose that you aren't used to blunt statements, such as the one I offered," Quasak said as he finally was through with studying his old companion.

"But you raise good questions, ones that make me doubt myself," Alvender said, not disappointed with Quasak. Alvender had literally rushed into the relationship with Skye, he wasn't looking for a way out, he was looking for a reason to hold on.

"You gave her her life back," Quasak said softly, realizing that Alvender was no longer the sharp witted youth he remembered, but matured by his experiences, at least in thought.

"Yukiko helped," Alvender spat back. "I don't even know it it worked!"

"No...that's not what I meant..." Quasak said shaking his huge, even for a dragon, sized head. He wasn't unproportional, he was just abnormally sized for a dragon. "When she came here, she was feeling the pain of others, every waking moment of her existance she felt pain, not her own physical pain, but the pain of others. Until she meant you, and you opened yourself up to her. You let her know that she wasn't the only one going through tough times, which humbled you both. You gave her hope, and all your trust to go with it. You've proven your trust to her, and she has proven her trust to you. Don't shame yourself for rushing in, it took you 12 years," Quasak explained.

Alvender smiled warmly at Quasak, as he sat up against his friend. Quasak was indeed wise, 12 years out in the wild, fending for yourself, and being a wild dragon, can really wise a dragon up to reality. "Thank you," Alvender said softly, as he laid his head on his abnormally huge friend's scally belly.

Quasak just nodded in reply, as he caught sight of Yukiko and Skye. A fire rose in his eyes, and Alvender could feel Quasak's stomach get suddenly hot. "Quasak no!" Alvender scolded, but it was too late, the fire in his stomach had alread reached Quasak's mouth, and the rush of the fire blocked Quasak's hearing.

To Quasak, Yukiko was a threat to Alvender, mostly because he didn't take any notice to the dragon in the Underlevel, a lot happened, and Yukiko...he didn't see. Alvender smacked Quasak's soft underbelly, and screamed for him to stop. But Quasak's belly had hardened over the years, and his own experience with killing would-be-heroes to protect his treasures. Then Quasak let not one, not two, but three fireballs fly towards Yukiko, with a seeker spell on each of them so they wouldn't lose the target.

"Quasak!" Alvender continued screaming as the fireballs fled.

"What?" Quasak said innocently, honestly not knowing that Yukiko wasn't a threat.

"That's Skye!" Alvender yelled back, tears erupting in his eyes.

Quasak's eyes widened, and he snarled at his mistake and his foolishness. Spreading his wings he took off in one powerful push, rushing at breakneck speeds to stop the fireballs in time.

"What the-" Skye's eyes widened. She and Yukiko both tensed.

The fireballs approached them rapidly. Yukiko tried to lose them, but they chased her relentlessly across the sky. Skye raised her staff, determination in her eyes.

"Let's work together, Yukiko!" she exclaimed. Yukiko growled in agreement.

With the strength of their mind link, Yukiko moved rapidly and haphazzardly through the sky, and Skye, knowing exactly what her dragon was going to do, had no trouble keeping hold while she conjured spells to deflect or absorb the fire blasts. Deflection and reflection spells were not working, as the fire balls were honed in on their target. She would have to settle for absorbtion.

Yukiko....I've never done an absorbtion spell for something this massive....Skye admitted, channeling her energy into the staff. I don't know if I have enough power...not after today...

The two of them looked below them at that instant, and noticed a lake. Neither of them had to voice a thought. Yukiko dove for it, and Skye braced herself for impact, ready to use a shield spell under the water to deflect any chunks of rock that might come after them.

They hit the water, Skye's heavy robes becoming saturated. The fireballs hit soon after them, extinguishing. Bits of rock and cooling molten rock came pummeling down, but Skye's shield spell worked perfectly, and the bits of earth fell uselessly to the bottom of the lake.

The two resurfaced, gasping air, and looking towards the castle.

"What was that...?" Skye asked, bewildered. She was starting to have second thoughts about separating their minds.

Quasak had managed to take out one of the fireballs by absorbing the energy that he had originally harnessed to form the huge flaming balls. It was too late. He couldn't reach the last two by the time Skye and Yukiko hit the water.

Alvender, who had by that time, had been trying to find some way to help out Skye, was rushing towards the lake when he saw where they were headed. Reaching the lake's edge right when they hit the water, Alvender watched as the last two remaining fireballs hit the water after them. Alvender could have swore his heart stopped as he waited for both of them to resurface, not being able to breath. Just when he was determined to go in after the two, they resurfaced and were looking straight at him, whether they noticed him or not he didn't know.

Quasak landed with an earth shattering thud, and gave out an equally loud roar of frustration that he wasn't able to get to them in time. The giant dragon slowly morphed into human form, and looked from Alvender, whose eyes showed nothing but disdain toward him to Skye and Yukiko who were completely baffled by what just happened.

"Are you alright!?" Alvender yelled over to the pair in the water. He was afraid of what that did to them, since they were just recovering from a death experience.

Both shaken, and sopping wet, Skye and Yukiko made their way towards Alvender and his dragon. Yukiko reached the shore first, shrinking down to her ferret size, and shaking the water from her fur. Skye dragged herself onto the shore, feeling exhausted, her staff clutched tightly in her hands. She looked over at Alvender.

"We're okay..." Skye assured him. She looked from him to his dragon and back, putting two and two together. "What was that? Some kind of training Lucas put you up to?"

She chuckled softly, trying to find humor in the situation, but in reality, she had been absolutely petrified. She looked at Alvender tiredly as Yukiko found her way to Skye's shoulders.

"It was a careless mistake, and one that will never happen again," Quasak started as he took the lead in the apology. "I didn't take notice to the fact you had a dragon, so when I saw it, my protective instincts got the best of me. I lost him once, and I wasn't planning on losing him again. He tryed to stop me, but my mind was already blocking any distractions."

Alvender shot a nasty look at his dragon, not likeing the apology, but he knew that was the only one he could give.

"Here let me at least help you," Alvender said putting Skye's arm around his shoulders, so she could use him for balance. Alvender didn't know how much of a toll that little show took on her, and wasn't going to chance her injuring herself while she was still recovering.

Sun Xeng had realised the fire balls heading at a dragon so he headed to where they were. on the way he saw Alvender and Skye with Yukiko and Quasak.
"Hi guys are you alright? I got an instructor alvender.

"That's great!" Alvender said, not really having any free hands to congratulation him with, since he was helping Skye. "Who is it?" he asked quizically, trying not to seem as if he tried to change the subject from what Quasak was discussing.

"We're fine," Skye assured Sun Xeng, feeling her temper rising again. Her weariness combined with her mood only made her frustrated, but she calmly looked over at Quasak, her tone sincere. "It was a misunderstanding...but now that we know each other, let's not let it happen again, okay? I don't think I can take another day like today."

She chuckled despite her fatigue, and felt her conciousness draining. Yukiko was already tucked in her dripping hood, fast asleep. Skye looked over at Alvender apologetically.

"I don't think I can make it back to the academy, Alvender..." she said Her eyelids began to droop. "i'm so....tired..."

Alvender could feel that Skye was letting go, it was evident in the way she was beginning to slack against him. Scooping her up in his arms, Alvender gently hushed her and whispered, "I'll take care of you...rest easy..."

Alvender nodded to Sun Xeng to be excuse and took his leave, it was indeed dark, doubting it he could even make it back to Skye's accomidation himself.

With a soft sigh, Alvender some how managed to unlock his door with Skye in his arms. Alvender had to admit, Skye was light, but it was tricky getting one hand free, to tell the truth, he couldn't even remember how got in. He just assumed Quasak had taken human form and helped the two of them in.

Alvender stumbled in, and closed the door behind him. Moving over to his bed, Alvender managed to tuck her underneath his covers. Alvender bent over and kissed Skye lightly on the forehead and ran his fingers through her hair once. Smiling, taking satisfaction that Skye was safe, he staggered over to the couch that was comfortably positioned in his living room space, with a huge window over looking a forest with mountains in the distant. Alvender curled up on his couch, and slowly drifted to sleep.

Skye awoke early in the morning. It was still dark outside...the stars were still visible. Yukiko had rolled out of Skye's hood, and was curled fast asleep on Skye's stomach, breathing slowly.

"This isn't....my room..." she whispered, looking around, the fog of sleep slowly lifting from her mind.

She spotted Alvender, sleeping soundly on the couch across the way. She bit her lower lip, suddenly feeling awkward. His room...she was in his room...

Yukiko stirred at her slightly anxious thought, but did not wake, and Skye decided not to move. She let her head fall back on the pillow, and closed her eyes, drifting back off into a comfortable sleep.
