Anyway, if possible, either Espeon or Ninetales as soon as possible. If not, then just the first one I encounter.

I will pick Turtwig because him and his evolutions are really reliable!
 
Infernape > Empoleon > Torterra

Why? Infernape Can beat Empoleon By Close Combat/ Focus Blast and Can beat Torterra With Flamethrower/Fire Blast/ OverHeat. Empoleon needs to be fast in order to beat Infernape with Surf and it can Beat Torterra with Ice Beam , Torterra , Just like Empoleon . it needs to be fast in order to beat The Steel Penguin and the HotHead Ape
 
i dont mean for online play also, Its just Infernape is the best :P Second Fastest
starter ( After Sceptile ) , and the Fastest Fighting Type Pokemon!

if u got Torterra, Teach it Rock Polish, it will be Pwnsome!
