Theresa may planning to create government-controlled "new internet" for the UK

They're already buying google ad space to try and cover people searching up their latest scandals.
Sadly, I don't even see how purchasing of ad space could even possibly hinder the public view from their scandals (unless people over there get brainwashed).

Also, ad blockers are surely useful to block this kind of insane bullshit as well. :')

1984 came immediately to mind when I read that, May seems to use it as an instruction manual and wants to turn UK into orvellian state.

Btw, it's pretty interesting coincidence that 1984 is set in Airstrip One which is formerly known as Great Britain.

Who in government would theoretically decide what can and can't be allowed on this proposed internet? How would it work? Would all material have to be vetted before it can appear live on the internet? That would be too large a task to be possible. Would it involve retroactive deleting of material that's found to break the rules? If so then information still gets out for a short while and that still defeats the purpose of controlling what can be said.

The whole idea doesn't sound like something that would even be possible outside of countries where they already have huge controls on speech and communication like China or North Korea.
