    Turmion Kätilöt
    Rammstein
    Alestorm
    Ensiferum
    In Flames
    W.A.S.P.
    Trivium
    Die Apokalyptischen Reiter
    Moonsorrow
    Sabaton

You could consider this ordered, but they mostly sound different, so whatever I feel like listening to at a given moment... if anything like them — I'm not so big on metal as many that will post here.
I've heard little from the last three, but hey, if it makes ten for the list, who's complaining.

Jesu - Drone/sludge metal, one of my favourite bands.

Burzum - first wave Black Metal act by the infamous Varg Vikernes, he also made some nice dark ambient albums whilst in prison.

Animals as Leaders - instrumental progressive metal by Tosin Abasi, one of the best guitarists I've heard.

Black Sabbath - no need for a description.

Mastodon - sludge/progressive metal, pretty well known. Crack The Skye is a great album.

Baroness - similar to Mastodon, but not as well known; although just as good, imo.

Godflesh - first industrial metal band.

    Rammstein - no description needed.

Riverside - Polish progressive metal band, so the singer has an interesting voice; similar style to Dream Theater, but I find them a little more interesting.

Tool - Tool are interesting because of the production on their albums, effects on the guitar, and Maynard James Keenan's voice; rather than focusing on guitar solos solely.

    2. Slayer
    3. Machine Head

    5. DevilDriver

How has no one listed Machine Head?

Also, come on. Some of these being listed as 'Metal' makes me cringe. You want to list them as 'New Metal' aka, hardcore emo.

Dragonforce? 3 Days Grace? In Flames?

    Seriously, come on.

Eh... the only bands that I actually like (almost) every song from are Dragonforce, Forever Storm, and Armory... (If we're only talking about English bands that is.) I also like a song or two from axenstar, missing tide, cornerstone, evil masquerade... and a few others.

(Lemme guess, none of you have heard of any of them, other than dragonforce. Lol)

This 'definition of metal' argument is what puts me off everything about the genre; this unbearable intolerance the subculture has to anything they dislike lest it, I guess, hurt their pride. Correct me if needbe, I've only got my own perception going on.
Those three you questioned are all listed as some form of metal. Oh it might be nu metal which might suck but it still says metal... Wikipedia, the bands themselves, their fans, whatever board decides they should be shelved under metal in music shops, so on so forth. If you don't like it, you're free to express that, but it's no use trying to cast away half the genre on that basis — it exists so you'll have to put up with it or ignore it, bantering on just makes people angry.

Well, bottom line, that is my opinion.
I don't consider them 'Metal' only by their sub-genre of metal.
