    What is Touhou?

    Oh gosh. I don't even know where to start with this. So have a video instead.



    Touhou is often viewed as the pinnacle of Japanese culture, and incidentally one of its largest cultural spheres. (2ch, Japan's largest message board, is Touhou themed. /jp/, 4chan's Japanese culture board, is 90% constituted by Touhou.) It also has, in my informed opinion, the most dedicated and loyal fanbase in the world, which passionately and prolifically creates an insurmountable volume of high quality doujin material. In fact, it's home to some of the most bad*ss art and music ever made. Comiket, the largest Japanese culture convention in the world, is consistently carried by Touhou works.

    Touhou extends its influence over many other things, unbeknownst to outsiders. (Chances are, you've seen Cirno, Flandre, Alice, Marisa, Bad Apple, McRoll, etc. without knowing that it was from Touhou. Death Waltz is actually a remix of Flandre's theme. League of Legends features a healthy host of Touhou references. Suika even made a cameo on the Keith Olbermann show!)

    What is this thread for?

    This thread is for people who already know what the Touhou Project is, or are interested in knowing about it. Discuss the games and characters, or share memes and doujin works such as art, music, or fanime.

    2. Touhou isn't something that you can just describe. It's an interactive experience that one must consume and synergize with.

    If you are referring to best game, that is too broad of a question to be answered. I personally liked the first 2 of the Windows generation (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Perfect Cherry Blossom) as they introduced staple characters and defined modern 東方. You can't go wrong with any games ost as they are all stellar. My favorite so far turns out to be the most recent entry, Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom. The hardest I believe is Undefined Fantastic Object. Though my opinion isn't very valid as I have yet to beat any game in the series.
    If you mean the best girl, that would have to be Sakuya or Reisen.
     
    This thread is a bonus for people that kinda know but aren't 100 percent sure i guess of the origins as i know about Touhoumon just not the lore or where they actually can from itss nice to see peoples own contradictions on where it all derived from in lets say your own hack you can present them as coming into a pokemon world from space or another dimension

    In general, Pokemon don't exist in Gensokyo Scenario-based hacks. I've heard that one had Pokemon die out, but the general consensus is that Patchcon happens- meaning Patchouli creates dolls to defend against Marisa's constant stealing of books but things go *ahem*

    Wow i need to brush up on my knowledge thank you for explaining alittle to me it should be alot easier to find information out with the information you provided. Thank you still alittle mind boggling as theirs so so many Touhoumon but does that mean some are official and some are more design alot of people like and included them as touhoumon.
     
    Ahhhhh, Touhou Project! Truly one of the greatest fandoms to be a part of. Seriously, even after being a fan for years I still don't understand it (and I wonder if I ever will).

    The music that Touhou fans make is definitely one of the best things to come from the series, in my opinion. And any true Touhou fan simply must listen to Demetori. Allow me to share a few of my favorites with you:

    I shared a lot of songs because I assumed you'd want to hear them all. I would share more but I think this is enough to get you started. ;)
     
    Demetori's nice, dunno who I prefer between them and Xi-on. They're both pretty damn good metal renditions.

    As far as music circles go, Senya's pretty great- if you're a 2hu fan you've probably heard her voice. She did the Fantasy of the Kaleidoscope openings, for reference (ie. Though the Scent Lingers, Tsuki ni wa Murakumo, etc.)

    I'm also quite the fan as Undead Corporation. I don't listen to a lot of what they do, but all of what I've heard is really damn good. Yoru Naku Usagi's my favorite of what they've done, it's so damn good. Hell, it's probably my favorite Lunatic Red-Eyes remix.

    DDBY's Cafe de Touhou is the one album I look forward to every Comiket since last year. I love this stuff so damn much. Is it my favorite? Not sure, but it's just sooo goddamn good.

    But as far as who are my favorites? I'd say Senya, Ichigo (they did Yu-Mu, among a bunch of other rock remixes that are pretty great hidden gems), and possibly Dark Phoenix. This is kinda off of the top of my head and I've been kinda avoiding listening to the Touhou songs that I have to bring back some novelty, plus I feel as if I'm not considering some groups that I really enjoy. I'd imagine that I'd change my tune if I gave some a listen.

    Special mention to Silver Forest since they put out quite a few tracks and, despite not being my favorites, they had to stop making music when their singer got sick. I'm sure those of you who have been in the Touhou scene for a while definitely know them, since they did Tsurupettan and Kero 9 Destiny.

    Yes in fact, I met SYNC.ART's last summer and told them that I'm known as Sync and I dabble in art. They found it fairly amusing, and said they hoped to see manning a table someday.

    Im so glad i saw this Thread my love for tohou has been rekindled and this page was very informative even had time to view the you tube video that made me search more about tohou.
    Thank so much still a noob when it comes to tohou but wwhen i saw this thread it kinda brought back memory's of when i played a tohou game but really didnt know nothink about it. But your presentation is very well done makes it more enjoyable to read. The memes omg are amazing laughable with alot of humour more please :)

    Wow these are well super super awesome i was shock that you actually put some up then amazed at the pics and the smug face wow that made my day all the pictures had some form of epicness. Thank you i hope you dont mined i added pictures to my collection of funzy pics.
