Basically, I have two questions. :P

    1) Do you think Pokemon which you have too trade to evolve should exist (not the Pokemon, but the evolution method)?

    2) Do you trade Pokemon with friends? :S

    Thanks for answering! :D

Sadly I don't have any friends to be able to trade-evolve with, but since you can cheat your way into "trading" with yourself at the GTS to evolve, it's not really a problem anymore. I did always find it a pain, though, and I still do most of the time.

Of course, this isn't nearly as bad as trying to get event-only legendaries. X_x

It's a horrible idea, I know Pokemon is all about Trading but not everyone has the necessary equipment, so they're stuck with a Kadabra rather than an Alakazam the entire game.

I highly sympathize. Same exact thing happened to me in Blue version, I never did get an Alakazam. X_x Take solace in the fact that you can go to a public library with wifi and use the GTS to do it, though. All you've got to do is ask the staff for the exact name of the wifi network. That's how I got Magmortar and Rhyperior. =D

Sadly, however, it doesn't work if the network uses a portal page to log on with. X_x

    1) I don't mind the whole thing, but I prefer the Pokemon who need to be traded in question in their original forms. The only exception is that I like Slowking over Slowpoke. That being said, I think Gengar, Porygon2 and Scizor are okay, but I prefer Kadabra over Alakazam and Machoke over Machamp.

    2) Used to back when we were doing it with Game Link Cables. Nowadays I don't trust the concept of doing it over Wi-Fi as someone can easily just leave you hanging and steal your Pokemon you traded to them. =(

Well, that isn't really the idea behind it. What you do is:

    1. Go to the GTS and browse for an easy trade you can complete in a few minutes.
    2. Go catch the pokemon required to complete the trade.
    3. Come back to the GTS, put the pokemon you wish to evolve in as an offer and make sure it is holding whatever it may need to evolve.
    4. Make the trade you searched for on the GTS; as in, search for it again.
    5. Then, hope your pokemon you just put in hasn't been traded after those few seconds it took to make the trade, pull it out, and voila, it's evolved.

The reason why this works is because you trick the game into thinking you made the trade by putting the pokemon in the GTS and leaving it in there while you trade something else. I'm not sure if this is a mistake in the game's programming, or if it was intended to facilitate trade evolution.

I could always trade with my brother, so it was more of a hassle than a hindrance. But, in the pre-GTS days, I could see where it could be a problem. Even more so that just "version exclusives" because you're stuck with Haunter/Kadabra/whoever if you can't trade with anybody.

Nintendo obviously didn't have the players who can't trade in mind when they decided on trade evolution Pokemon.

The trade evolutions were another gimmick to buy link cables, Game Boys, and Red/Blue Versions when I think about it. And let's get to the logic here: how does a Pokemon evolve from being traded? Stones make sense. Levels make sense. Time of day makes sense (usually...). Trading? Even if it's a trade + item evolution, I still don't get it. I'm left hanging with Haunter in my Red version. I don't mind, but dang. It'd sure be nice to get that Speed boost if I could trade.

As for GBA and DS trading, I trade with myself. I have two GBA's and an SP as well as two DS's. I'm good.

I hate it! NONE of my friends play Pokémon, and I don't have WiFi! So I can't ever evolve my Machoke or Haunter! Sob!

That evolution is fine, problem is, I have no one to trade with. :( I'm the only sophomore still playing Pokemon in my town.

I do this all the time, even though I do have irl friends that play Pokemon.

I don't really like having Pokémon that evolve like this - I mean how does giving a Pokémon to somebody else trigger an evolution? It's unrealistic, not to mention annoying to those people who are unable to trade and are stuck forever with a Kadabra or Machoke or whatever.

    1. Yes, I've never really had a trouble with this becuase throughout my life I've had plenty of friends that still play Pokemon so I can just trade. I guess it also isn't as much as a problem now with the GTS.
    2. Yep, I got 13 - 15 friends that still play Pokemon so I can just trade them when I go over there house or on the bus on the way to School. :)

It was always a great idea! Spending money on all the necessary stuff so GameFreak can get rich, the risk of something getting ****ed up in Gen 1, and not to mention the fact that Pokémon isn't a commonplace interest in populations of people ages 11 and older! Do all that just to complete a goddamn Pokédex! Isn't that just the greatest idea you've EVER heard? :D

    :P

The trading evolution method is a big pain in the rump.

For years I never was able to use pokemon like Machamp, Gengar, Golem etc. because I didn't know anyone who had a link cable. Once the adaptors came out I didn't know anyone who played anymore. So when the Ds came out I bought two so I could trade merrily with myself. :)

I feel like biggest loser having two just for trading pokemon, but thats a little secret no one back at home knows.

It's really annoying for 4th Gen because I only have one DS and none of my friends play Pokemon, and I have no Wi-Fi to exploit the trade glitch with. Otherwise it's not a problem because I have a link cable, a Gameboy Advance, an SP, and VBA Link.

Trading to evolve, no! My reasons stand by the fact that if you don't own WiFi, there are small chances that you would be able to get a trade by link. Because your friends might not even own the game or live quite far away to meet up. Adding to that, you wouldn't be able to complete your current PokeDex to follow on to the National. Even if you do have WiFi, someone might be that sneaky and take it from the trade...

its good and broken at the same time.

Good because the pokemon like these are terribly powerful, see Alakazam how it hits darn hard to anything it sees and Machamp throwing its powerful physical moves at its enemies. so its like preventing the player to evolve them easily.

Broken for people who got friends or having another Pokemon game and a DS, like you evolved your Gastly to Haunter at Lv25, then you trade it so you can have Gengar immediatly making it your powerful pokemon in your team.

I've never had a problem with it. I just used my sister's gameboy back in the earlier gens and now I just borrow a friends DS. I think trading for the pokemon to evolve can be kind of annoying, but it makes them unique and adds some variety.

I do trade with some friends irl as well.

No one i know is still playing Pokemon, and i have neither 2 DS nor wifi, so i can't get stuff that requires trading.

But i'm mostly playing on emulators anyway, so i can trade when playing gen. 1-3
