I've noticed that in Pokemon, there are no good adult trainers, you are like, ten or eleven or something. And for the most part the e4 are mostly teens, other than Agatha and Bertha, if your not ten you have to be eighty. The only good adult trainer who isn't elderly is Lorelei So what do you think of this?

Another good adult trainer would be Cynthia. She aint in her 80's nor is she 11. xD

    Cynthia > Lorelei

    xD xD

I meant good trainers ('cause we all know the Galactic people suck other than Cyrus, I guess he's one...)

If you think about it, although the Pokemon world obviously revolves around Pokemon (from what we can see), training itself isn't exactly a practical way of living. Yes, you get to travel around a lot, but your only pay is apparently from your winnings (or the League, depending on which canon you're working with and whether or not you're a Gym Leader/otherwise associated with the League). It's essentially a sport or past-time. One that you have to be involved in on a pretty hardcore level, but still.

As in, I have no doubt that a lot of kid trainers simply give up training and opt for taking on something more practical, like becoming a doctor or something. So, you've got kids, teens, the possibly retired elderly, and those working for the League who have the option to spend all of their time on training and people who might still train Pokemon but are primarily something else in order to pay the bills and put food on the table.

*shrug* Really, it's just a theory, so I really couldn't say.

But I will say that I've always thought Steven (and, for that matter, Wallace) wasn't a teenager but was, rather, in his early to mid twenties. Then, if you count Gym Leaders, you've also got Surge, Koga (who's also an E4 member in GSC), Chuck, Norman, Byron, and Crasher Wake. Danny and Luana in the Orange Islands in anime canon as well. On the E4 side, you've got Bruno, Karen (who strikes me as being the same age as Cynthia), Lucian, possibly Sidney (hard to tell his age), and Glacia (same). Maybe even Lance, if you think he's roughly the same age as the other champions. Of course, that depends on whether or not you think any of them are good. From an in-canon perspective (as in, if we try to see it from the viewpoint of someone in the Pokemon world), I'd assume they would be if they got the positions they have.

That's, of course, not counting the older teens anyway. Or, for that matter, the leaders of the evil teams (Giovanni, Maxie, and Archie included, along with the members of Snagem and Cipher.) But in any case, I wouldn't say there's only one or two.

I agree with what Xanthine said. The adults probably just go on to be like accountants, lawyers, or whatever. Then there are the choice few that would actually like to further their Pokemon training and become gym leaders or part of the Elite Four.

I see Pokemon training and battling as primarily for children, so that's probably why they leave home so early to go out exploring and have fun for a few years before plunging into the frustrations of adulthood. :p

I dunno, that's just how I imagine it is.

Teah I'd also like to point out no one would let a ten year-old go out and leave home. But I don't really care that much

in some cultures kids are raised to be like all tough and stuff and by about 10-13 they're able to take care of themselves =/

I suppose the Pokemon world might be like that.

    I suppose your right...

Still it is kinda odd though...

I think that most trainers around Pokemon world are young because they're eager to get out and battle, thet's why so much trainers are young. However the trainers that are mature wait and train until they're very strong get older and those are the ones that you see in the Elite four trainers such as Steven, Flint and Cynthia with most of the Elite four and the gyms to boot.

Normally I'd agree with you, but have you ever once heard about somebody having money/job issues in the Pokémon world? D: Honestly, it seems like all the people do what they do just to do it... not for actual money. The only times I've ever encountered money issues is when I watched the anime, and Team Rocket was always broke, but they were the only ones :[ So, I think it's more of a adults-aren't-as-interesting thing rather then a practical thing.

i dunno if its been said but branden the pyramid king, juan, err... L.t surge.... it goes on:D

Waitwaitwait.. Are Jessy and James that young too?

Yes. If Jesse says to a 100 year old woman that she is like 10 times older than her, your message is an honor.

In my opinion, that's the way some cultures are. The Pokemon World is like a fusion of Japan and Africa. They consider 10-year olds as adult and mature, yet they have the epic technology. It's a different way of thinking, you know? Like Algebra and Geometry.

I thought it was weird that Ash's character is 10. He looks like he's atleast 14. And Brock. I swear he is like 16 or 18. Jesse and James would be about 30.

I don't think he is 10 anymore at least
but they have some good adult trainers too like most of the gym leaders are adults or like 20's or late teens at least

Heheh... too many young trainers? I just got my pal CyberForte to talk with me about this, and we got ourselves a mighty fine list of trainer classes that could not only be professional jobs, but include the training of Pokemon themselves.

As CF pointed out and I ended up agreeing on, the human civilization is built around the various species of Pokemon that inhabit their world; Pokemon centers, marts, battle towers, contests... but that's just solely trainers. Quite a few of the classes could easily use pokemon as well. Guards use them to as police animals (such as Officer Jenny's Growlithe), Ruin Manics/explorers could excavate with them, Idols wow fans, the clowns entertain with their teams, Karate masters and whatnot using their fighting types to help teach pupils, etc., etc.

Ahem! Now then, "good" trainers are in the eyes of the beholder, frankly. If one looks at it in game canon, the abilities of the various people who use Pokemon in the world would more than likely differe immensely from the levels we see within the games. Everyone's different, after all.

And sure, ten might be too young, but someone (on here I believe it was; I forgot the screen name) mentioned a system they had in mind for trainer age and travelling/parental consent. I can't find the post anymore, so I'm afraid I'll have to paraphrase what I remember:

Ten-year-olds could travel their home region, but with parental consent and an adult supervisor.
Thirteen-year-olds can travel the region without an adult supervisor.
Eighteen-year-olds can travel outside the region without parental consent and the supervisor.

I admit, it's been a while since I've read that particular post, so I may have somethings mixed up; my sincerest apologies to the original poster, if they're on this forum; certainly feel free to correct me on my paraphrasing. Point in case, there are more "middle-aged" classes of trainers, and while they may not be "solely trainers" akin to the protagonstis, E4 members, or gym leaders, they still exist to even out the "too young, too old" ratio.
