    Good afternoon/morning

I have read several guids on ev training and im still having problems. I cant keep my pokemon alive or do any meaningful damage in tera rainds. I even loose to npcs sometimes. Its mot that i haven't leveled my mons either. I have not used any rare candy or xp candy.

The one thing none of the guides show is what it looks like after you ev train. The graph. So that i know i did it correctly. For example. I did sp. atk and defense on my shiny haunter. The graph look like an L sort of.

My haunter is lvl 75 currently.

    Hp- 196
    Sp atk- 248
    Sp def- 121
    Spd - 183
    Def - 110
    Atk - 92

Does haunter even need atk? If not, how far can i drop it to increase other stats?
What is the correct build to do well in tera raids in general? Hp and attack or ho/def???

    Advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    1. Recommends using Exp Candy or Rare Candies up to 100, if you have them. (Try to fight the Blissey Tera Raids, if you can. Bring a physical attacker. Will struggle with a special attacker like Haunter.) Can always EV train at level 100. Makes a pretty big difference. Shoots up your Special Attack from 248 to 329 (about a 32% increase).

Also affects your NPC partners. Bases their level off of your Pokemon. Appears to be roughly 20% under your level, so about level 60 for them instead of being at level 80 if you had a level 100 Haunter.

    2. Do not worry about Attack for Haunter. Has pretty bad Attack (worse than a same-level Sprigatito). Already seems to have a -Attack nature (Calm, by the looks of it?). Should be as low as it can go currently.

Personally recommends Special Attack and Hitpoints for Haunter. Works well if the opponent uses physical or special moves. Outperforms splitting it evenly between Defense and Special Defense, but not by much. (Tested 252 in Hitpoints versus 128 in both defenses. Took 60.5% of its health with max Hitpoints on a low damage roll versus 61.1% with split defenses on a low roll.)

Recommends removing some EVs from Speed. Does not value Speed a ton in Tera Raids.

    3. Did you max out your Defense EVs? Is the stat sparkling? Should have higher Defense than that. Might have hit the EV cap from EVs in other stats.

    4. Did you Hyper Train your stats in Montenevera? Looks like max IVs for some stats, at least. Asks mostly to make sure. Do not bother Hyper Training your Attack. (Receives no benefit to do so. Feel free to, though.)

Requires 1 Bottle Cap per stat to Hyper Train. Look in Delibird Presents for them in Cascarrafa, Levincia, or Mesagoza. Costs...20,000 each?

    5. Mentions Haunter not being a very strong Pokemon. Has about the same total stats as the middle evolution for a starter (Floragato, Crocalor, Quaxwell). Will run into problems at times, particularly with taking hits. Is not saying you cannot use Haunter, just that you will be at a disadvantage.

    6. What moves do you have? Advises Acid Spray at minimum. Builds your Tera Orb charges, on top of lowering your opponent's Special Defense by two stages. Helps you even if Haunter faints (provided the raid boss does not clear it). Besides that, go with something like Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb / Sludge Wave, and maybe Nasty Plot. Could consider Skitter Smack, if you have access to the DLC. Lowers the incoming damage against special-based raid bosses.

    7. What Tera type do you have? Recommends a Tera type that matches one of your Pokemon's types in almost all cases, so Ghost or Poison.

Why? Imagine you are not Terastallized. Uses Shadow Ball. Will say you hit for 100 damage baseline, to keep numbers simple. Receives a 50% boost if you use a Ghost move like Shadow Ball. Bumps it up to 150 damage. Goes up to 200 damage if you Terastallize to Ghost and use Shadow Ball.

Encourages you to have a Pokemon of each Tera type for a raid. Realizes this can be difficult at the beginning, though.

    8. What held item are you using? Recommends Shell Bell for nearly every Pokemon (for offline play, anyways). Keeps you healthy once you start dealing damage, especially against the giant health pools bosses have. Check Delibird Presents in Levincia for one.

Here's a shot of my shiny haunter. I agree the move set probably needs a lot of work. I did speed to go first because i kept getting one shot and not getting to attack at all, mostly outside of tera raids. But i have this problem on a lot of my mons.

I always thought rare candys and xp candies where bad to use because it affects your stars somehow. Im probably wrong if your recommending it lol.

Fair. Makes sense for standard battles. Wins Tera Raids by being able to take hits, however. Is not a great environment for glass cannons.

Likely aims to do something like this for Tera Raids for Haunter: Acid Spray three times. From there, either:
    A. Terastallize and regain all your lost health
    B. Faint. (Use something like Skitter Smack or any move, really. Ought to be low on health.) Terastallize when you return. May wish to use Nasty Plot before Terastallizing, if you have the time. Leaves you with some damage if the raid boss clears its negative stat drops.

Assumes you live more than 1 hit, of course.

To remove the Speed EVs, find some Tamato Berries. Personally bought them at the auction house. (Cannot recall the method to reroll the auction items. Should work if, for the first time you play in a day, you reset the game if the item you want is not there. Do not save until you see the item you want.) Costs a pretty reasonable amount (sub 10000 for a bunch?).

Other locations: Supposedly finds them on the ground in East Province (Area One) and South Province (Area Six). Drops from the Emotional Spectrum Practice in Alfornada and 4-star Tera Raids too.

Understandable. Possibly comes about from how EVs worked in the early days. Had to earn experience to get EVs from battles in Generation 4 (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum) and earlier. Changed that in Generation 5 (Black/White).

Cannot trust Google's AI overview on this either.
    AI Overview said:
Yes, Pokémon at level 100 cannot gain any more Effort Values (EVs). This is because Pokémon do not gain EVs in battles that do not give experience, such as in the Battle Tower or if the Pokémon is level 100.
Goes against what Bulbapedia says (and personal experience):
    Bulbapedia said:
Pokémon can now gain effort values from battling even at Level 100, and stats are recalculated at the end of every battle instead of only after leveling up, much like Deoxys in the Generation III games.
