[ROM Hack] Trying out Pokemon Velvet

Recently, I've been interested in Pokemon Velvet, a ROM hack in which some Pokemon have received custom forms, and some have been replaced with Pokemon from later generations. The creator has also made Pokemon Serene Crystal, which has also piqued my interest. However, I've decided to play Pokemon Velvet first, and get to Serene Crystal later. I've downloaded the version with the physical/special split, because I've read that that version won't be getting any more updates.

The main character has been replaced with a girl named Liko. The rival is the same character as in RBY, but I've named him after a toxic person who used to have a relationship with one of my best friends. The name I've chosen for him is Jeffrey.

Anyways, time to start my adventure. Instead of Pikachu, I got a custom Hatenna, which is a Dark/Fairy type. Jeffrey snatched an Eevee for himself. My Hatenna took down that Eevee with a few hits from its signature move, Loophole.

After defeating Jeffrey, I had to go to Viridian City to collect Oak's Parcel. Then I had to go back to deliver it and receive a Pokedex. Along the way, I trained my Hatenna a bit.

After receiving the Pokedex, I went to Route 22 to fight Jeffrey again. This time, Jeffrey tried to hinder me with Sand-Attack. Still, my Hatenna prevailed.

With Jeffrey defeated once more, I went back to Pallet Town again, to receive some free Poke Balls from Professor Oak. With that, time to catch some Pokemon.

At Route 1, I encountered a Sunkern. I figured it'd be useful against Brock, plus Sunflora got an evolution in this ROM hack, so I caught it. Then I went to Route 22 for some different Pokemon. I caught a Spearow, which would be useful against Bug types.

I also encountered a custom Squirtle, which was a Psychic type, so I caught it. It didn't have any Psychic type moves yet, so I had to train it. While training it, I encountered a custom Teddiursa, which I decided to catch. The custom Teddiursa is pure Dark, but its evolution is Dark/Fighting, and they've replaced the Mankey line, so I've decided to train it as well. It learned Low Kick at level 9, just like Mankey in Pokemon Yellow. Meanwhile, my Squirtle learned Confusion at level 8.

Then the time came to go through Viridian Forest. After I got through it, I had to train a bit more for the Pewter Gym. My Sunkern took care of the first trainer, a Jr. Trainer.

Then, time to face Brock. My Sunkern took down his Geodude without any trouble. Then, Brock sent out a custom Charmeleon, a Rock type. I switched out my Sunkern for my Teddiursa. My Teddiursa landed a Low Kick, but Brock's Charmeleon used Bide. I made my Teddiursa use Leer a few times, but the Charmeleon's Bide took away a large portion of my Teddiursa's HP. As I let my Teddiursa attack again, Brock's Charmeleon stupidly used Bide again, allowing my Teddiursa to finish it off with Low Kick.

Brock rewarded me with the Boulder Badge and TM34, which still contains Bide. I sold the TM for some extra money. Now, time to go through Route 3.

Current team:
Hatenna (Dark/Fairy)

As I went through Route 3, I encountered trainers with Flying type Pokemon. In Pokemon Velvet, you can catch Annoying Stupid Flying Squirrel in Viridian Forest, and I could've caught one of those, but I don't want to, because it's one of my least favourite Pokemon. Fortunately, the trainers with the Flying type Pokemon can be skipped, so I did that instead.

Route 3 also had a Lass with a Jigglypuff. For her, I went to Route 2 to catch a Nidoran Male anyway. Fortunately, it had Poison Sting, so with a little training, it could take down the Jigglypuff.

With that, I've reached Mt. Moon. Here, I caught a Geodude. I trained it until it learned Rock Throw. Then, I went back to Route 3 to fight the trainers with the Flying types. And then, I made my way through Mt. Moon.

At Mt. Moon, I searched for all trainers and fought them. Towards the end, I had to fight a Super Nerd who was guarding 2 fossils. He had an Alolan Grimer, a Hisuian Voltorb, and a Hisuian Sneasel. Before fighting him, I went looking for a Ground type. Luckily, the deepest floor of Mt. Moon has Cubone in Pokemon Velvet, so I caught one of those and used it against the Super Nerd's Grimer. Against his Voltorb and Sneasel, I used Nidoran M and Squirtle, respectively. When I won, the Super Nerd allowed me to take both fossils with me.

Before I could leave Mt. Moon, I was stopped by Jessie and James, who wanted to fight me. They had a Meowth, an Ekans, a Hisuian Sneasel, and a Butterfree. I fought them with my Cubone, Teddiursa, Squirtle, and Spearow. Their Butterfree was a bit annoying, as it landed a Stun Spore on my Spearow. The others were much less trouble. After the battle, my Squirtle evolved into a Psychic/Flying Wartortle.

With Jessie and James defeated, I could leave Mt. Moon. In Pokemon Velvet, the ledge between Route 4 and Cerulean City is no longer a point of no return. This saves me the trouble of catching an Abra. I can still catch one if I want to, though. For now, my goal is to make it through Route 24 and 25.

Before going through Route 24, I had to train a bit. My Hatenna learned Draining Kiss, and my Teddiursa learned Bite.

After training, I headed to Route 24, only to be stopped by Jeffrey, who wanted revenge. He started off with a Spearow, which my Geodude took care of. Then, he sent out a Sandshrew, which got defeated by my Sunkern. Then he sent out a Rattata, against which I sent out my Teddiursa. With his Rattata down, he sent out his Eevee. His Eevee used moves like Charm and Sand-Attack to hinder me, but in the end I won.

With Jeffrey defeated once more, I could go through Route 24. I defeated all the trainers, then I encountered a guy with a Charmander. He wanted to give his Charmander away, so I accepted it. Then I headed for the patch of grass to train my Pokemon again. While training, I encountered an Oddish, which has received a custom Grass/Fairy form. I decided to catch it and replace my Sunkern with it. Then I resumed training and encountered a Meowth, which I caught for Pay Day support.

Then, I had to go through Route 25. There was one trainer with a Slowpoke. I left him alone for the time being and fought all of the other Trainers. I reached Bill's house, had to help him turn back into a human, and got an S.S. Ticket. Then I went back to Cerulean City, went through a house previously blocked by a police officer, and fought a Team Rocket member. He had a Machop and a Drowzee. My Hatenna took down his Machop, and I let my Teddiursa take on his Drowzee.

Now, I can either go to Vermilion City, or challenge the Cerulean Gym. I'm leaning towards challenging the Cerulean Gym first. Also, there's a girl in Cerulean City who offers a custom Bulbasaur form. I'm considering getting that one too.
