This has been going on my mind for a while now. You are already familiar with the term "Tsundere," which describes a character's love hate relationship with another character. I never understood why it's such a popular trait. For one thing, they never understand one person's mistake when they accidentally see their undergarments and prematurely accuse them of being a pervert (Ex: Shinji's encounter with Asuka), which only makes me afraid of going near one irl knowing what they're capable of in anime and manga. Speaking of real life, they'll probably have zero interest in you and possibly report you or form a restraining order on you if you try to win their heart (notice how I'm referring Tsundere characters as "it" and "them" because this can apply for any gender). I would rather date a Yandere than a Tsundere, because at least they're more attached to you, even if they plan to kill the competition, including your friends and family. So I ask all of you, why is it that there people who still love Tsundere despite the risks? Don't you want someone who is more sympathetic towards you?

Isn't the general idea it's a dislike/hate turning in to affection? I don't really get your categorising in real life - is there no person you've hated in the past but warmed to? It happens all the time.

If you crush on someone who dislikes you, people tend not to just give in and they wait patiently or persist. That's the whole idea ><. Looking at someone's underwear isn't a realistic situation to be in with a love interest who dislikes you...

I'm not very qualified to discuss this, but I will anyway. I like tsunderes but not in all occasions. If done wrong, this makes for an annoying and unlikeable character. What I like about Asuka is that she appears strong on the outside, but has a weakness (that being her own broken character that has noticeable psychological damage) that brings her down on the toughness scale.

And that what I believe tsunderes are like IRL. They're the people who talk a lot of game but are afraid of the knuckle sandwich they very much deserve. If you don't know the "weakness" or at least something you can make fun of them for, there's limits to how controlling they can be. And once they realize they aren't so strong, I would be fine with dating one.

Anime characters don't exist but their personalities can be tied to a few people I know.
