^ It was trendy to dislike SAO when it was at the height of its popularity. AoT, too. Or anything around that height of popularity, take your pick.

Log Horizon >>>>>>>> SAO
How are these shows even alike, though?

I mean, I get that they're both MMOs, but...really, I always see these comparisons- especially when you include .Hack, when really the shows have little in common. Hell, I wouldn't even say SAO and .Hack (Sign and Roots, particularly) are in most of the same genres. From the little I've seen of Log Horizon, eeeeeeeh...maybe. And before it made sense, but when I thought about it, there really are a lot of more nonsensical comparisons.

But I think I'd sooner compare SAO to something like...I dunno...Highschool DxD, possibly. I dunno, I'm blanking. Any harem ecchi with fighting that can get serious fits the bill. Irregular's a good example, too. 'cause really, when you drop the fact that it's an MMO, The two former shows really don't have much in common with it.

I actually love SAO (that's probably a surprise for some of you). I just like Log Horizon more. Especially the Light Novels.

They're two popular shows about MMOs that came out reasonably close to each other. They were going to attract the same type of watchers (those interested in vidya anime), and thus have become ripe for comparison.
No, see, I get why they're compared, I'm just saying that there are plenty of others shows that more closely resemble SAO than Log Horizon and .Hack when you get down to brass tacks- these shows are really only similar in theme. Not saying they shouldn't be compared for that reason, but there are others.

What are you going all out on the newcomer for? The vet here, myself, hasnt seen Nichijou yet huehuehue

Oh hey can I join this club?

SAO's actually enjoyable. If anything, the animation as well as the soundtrack are really amazing (I even have a separate playlist for it lol).

It does have good animation, I'll give it that. But for me the animation was a double-edged sword. Considering I'm a character-oriented person, I'll always put that before most things, whether the characters be good or bad. So when a character that's...not so good does something badass and, well, the reasons behind the badassery, what's happening, or the character involved doesn't agree with me, then I won't really enjoy the show on that level. I can recommend it for that much, sure, but for me the reason I can't go back is because I don't like Kirito, so it's just that.

I don't like the action scenes because I don't like him- well, that isn't the only reason, but that's one of them. Because in those situations, I'm on the enemy's side rather than his, and because of that the "heartpounding chills" that they're supposed to invoke feel more like nerves snapping on my end. Danmachi's Bell Cranel could be this, as some of the reasons I don't like Kirito are there, but as far as I've seen he's been pretty safe.

Well, that's another thing, too. It's really difficult to like a show if you dislike the main character. Moreso if you don't like main girl. Nearly impossible if their romance is as much of a backbone to the show as it is here.

...With that said, I'll have to give Sinon Art Online a try one of these days. And sorry Netto.

Same, I'm behind, myself. Last episode I was was in early May. Have to catch up with Food Wars, too, but having a backlog for Spring is nice. Technically Punchline would be on there too, but...I may just save that for later.

Only shows I'm caught up on this Spring are Teekyu, its spinoff, Nisekoi, and Gintama (kinda, I'm caught up to the new season, on episode 96 of the show otherwise). Summer season's getting close, too, which I'm looking forward to. Don't think I'll be running out of anime anytime soon :q

Which series is being talked about again, I wonder?

I was talking about this. Comedic fun about the monkey girl.

Blah blah blah SAO sux.

Blah blah blah I really like SAO.

Blah blah blah what everyone likes is relative.

But whatever. I still love SAO. It got me back into the VRMMO concept after .Hack and got me into reading Light Novels again. I'm truly grateful for that.

Can...can I just have this? I mean, really, this is always what it is, verbatim, when SAO's brought up here. Or anywhere, really. It's so formulaic to the point that the moment it was brought up I knew exactly where it would go and still managed to fall into the formula.

Worse is that it's never really original, it's pretty much always the same things said. I want to see someone who likes the show ironically, or someone who'll make a case for the show because Agil's baldness is a gift to mankind. I dunno, something different.

I tried making a case for it, or start a serious discussion about the topics brought up in the series years ago. I just typically get ignored with everyone going "yadda yadda fanservice harem muk yadda yadda" every week. So what's the sense in defending it? It's a waste of time if it's "trendy" to hate on it.

The tragic part is, I really was excited for discussion and was quite invested in exploring concepts. But the weekly mindless blather and trolling really took a toll and left deep scars in terms of my perception of anime watchers and elitists.

If you really want to get me riled up, more than politics, more than current events, be an elitist hipster about anime to my face.
