    Just out of curiosity, I thought I'd ask people's opinion on the UK as Jolene (irc) did for the USA.

    So what do you think of old Blighty? (And Ireland)

    I love it here. It's a lot more liberal than the US for starters.
    I would like to live abroad, maybe in Canada for a while when I'm older though.

    Anyway, I live in England and I absolutely love it, as I do Ireland, being half Irish also. Although the price of stuff sucks. :v
     
    Being an educated American, I realize the importance of the UK to our country, seeing as the U.S. doesn't exist without England. I'm not too familiar with the Governmental policies as of late, but It does seem that their government operates smoother, and trivial things don't bother them as much as it would in the American political system. And it does lean to the left on some things, which I identify with.

    Being of English and Irish heritage myself, I'd love to get a chance to go to Britain and immerse myself in the culture and History there. Plenty of important places to visit- like Stonehenge, the Parliament Building, Big Ben, Buckingham Palce, etc.

    I hope you realize that's a generalization, and you're matching that one generalization with another. :/ It's not indicative of the English's view on Americans, and the same can be said of the opposite side of the argument.

    There are people who insult Americans in every country, even your own. Don't generalize people based on a generalization they might not even make...

    There are people who generalize in America about us too, so don't feel hard done by.

    I live in the UK and have since I was born. Love it and that it is. Shame about the weather at times/most of the time. -___-'

    So you don't want to come to the UK because you can't be racist? That isn't against freedom of speech, that is just being kind to another human being.

    If they arrest people for something as simple as expressing an opinion that is held by most world religions, imagine what would happen to someone who slipped and told a little off-color joke.

    Surely you can see what a chilling effect these laws cause.

    And I also wouldn't live in the UK because taxes are way too high and the weather is too cold and rainy for my liking.
     
    I haven't gone to the UK, but like Live_Wire said, the US wouldn't exist without it; some Brits came to the Americas a long time ago and colonized it.

    As for my opinion on it, it feels different when compared to the US because of the way people say things or do things, i.e. spelling words differently such as color/colour, as well as driving on different sides of the road.

    Just don't be stupid enough to say it in front of the police.
     
    I like the fact that we have the NHS, and that there aren't as many pushy religious fanatics as there are in the USA. Although, instead we just have people who are equally intolerant and obnoxious, they just don't use religion as an excuse.
    Apart from that, I'm no big fan.
     
    I visit the UK occasionally (I'm US born), and I love it here. The people are nice enough and while it's a wee bit different, I still like it here. Hell, i'm here right now.
