Ultimate Monotype Challenge Thread

Alrighty, so my first little update here in my Fighting-Type Ultimate Mono, on Leaf Green atm. My trainer name will be I in all my games, with a rival named ASH. +1 to you if you get the reference.

I am playing as a girl this run since I have never done so before. Onto my journey:

There are a rather limited amount of Fighting Type pokemon available legit in LG, so a good portion of this run will be a solo run with Mankey until I can get HM01 and into Rock Tunnel to catch a Machop. After that, I will get a Hitmonchan, and then a Poliwrath as soon as I get a Good Rod to fish for a Poliwhirl.

Started off with Charmander, named him Cut (HM Slave lol). Beat ASH and grabbed Oak's Parcel, PokeDex, and 5 Pokeballs. Ran up to Viridian near the Pokemon League entrance and caught a L5 Mankey, Adamant nature first try (woohoo!) Named him FISTOFFURY for now :)

Next up is Viridian Forest. First time through I forgot to buy Antidote, and FOF died right outside of the PC. X( Stocked up on Antidote and ran through Viridian Forest, owning all the trainers with my imba Scratch attack. (Bug Pokemon are so weak...)

Learned Low Kick at L11, owned Brock's face with it. Taught FoF Rock Tomb. Onto Mt. Moon!

Oh yay! RUNNING SHOES omnomnom. Best addition to the game since the SEL button.

More trainers...Learned Karate Chop...Got a Helix Fossil...Learned Mega Punch! No more lame Scratch for FoF! :D

Onto Misty. I probably should have fought ASH and done Nugget Bridge first, but I was lazy, and I figured I would be fine with a level 23 Mankey with some good power moves. Man, I sure cut it close. Misty taught her Starmie Water Pulse, and of course it confuses me on the first hit, as well as taking me down to 1/2 HP. I was going to 2HkO Starmie, but I needed to survive another Water Pulse AND beat a confusion. I survived with 1HP and killed Starmie. RNG ftw.

After that intense but short battle, I proceeded to wipe the floor with ASH and his L18 Squirtle (what....?) and just beat Nugget Bridge on my way to Bill's house. S.S. Anne incoming!

OK, short update as I started my Flying Ultimate Mono-Type Challenge.

Spoiler:

Named myself Fargo and my Rival Hal. Chose Charmander and got one with a Quiet Nature (+SpA, -Spe), which is good and bad, but it's better than some others. I did forgot to give him his nickname of Salamite, though, and will do so as soon as I get to Lavender Town. Got Oak's Parcel, came back, got 5 Pokeballs and used one to catch a L3 Pidgey named Bob, with an ADAMANT Nature!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D. Grinded both Charmander and Bob to L10, then fought Hal on Rt. 22 and beat him easily, even though Squirtle learns Bubble at L7, and he was at L9 but never used it on Charmander lol.

Now it was time to enter Viridian Forest and the horrors of Poison Sting Weedles, although I did stock up on POtions and Antidotes beforehand. I actually neer got poisoned, though. Caught a Caterpie with a Bashful Nature (neutral) at L3, named him Freed, and grinded out the rest of the forest. Caterpie evolved into Metapod before exiting, then I grinded him to a L12 Butterfree before facing off against Brock. Charmander and Bob were both at L11.

The trainer battle before Brock always cracks me up.

I travelled north-west to Hearthrome City and then I flew back to Pastoria and followed the Galactic Grunt until I reached Cynthia. I then healed the Psyduck and continued onto Celestic Town where I ridded of Team Galactic and got Surf. I then went back to Hearthrome City where I beat Fantina. I am currently in Canalave City.

Update

Got the egg from elms assistant. Threw it in my pc and continued my adventure. Made it to and through rock tunnel and found kurt. Found him on the floor, then saved all of the slowpokes. After that, went to bugsy's gym and challenged.. him? I died the first time by her..? furry cytter, but the second time i blinded the scyther with smoke screen them pummeled it with bubble.

Ran into my rival and we fought. I was constantly dying, due to the fact that i only had bubble to damage it and he had razor leaf. I got seahorse up to level 24 and challenged him again, blinded it with smokescreen, and then used my new water gun to kill it. After catching the farfetch'd and running through ilex forest, i made it to goldenrod. I checked the store for good TM's, but all they have are the elemental punches.. So i went into the gym and challenged whitney. She was extremely easy this time. Probably because seahorse is level 26 and a female.

I grabbed the squirt bottle and killed the sudowudo. I went to ecreteak(spelling?) city and stepped into the burned tower. My rival destroyed me a few times, so i leveled my horsea up to a seadra, which i had to do at level 33, since i got her up to level 32 against his gastly. Evolving her helped a lot. He died fairly easy to seahorse that time. Picked up a mareep for flash and went into mt. mortar, also in hope to find the dragon scale. No luck. I went to morty's gym and challenged him. I took all of his pokemon out within 2 shots. I think a level 37 seadra might be a little over leveled..

I fought the kimono girls and got surf. I taught it to seahorse and made my way to olivine. I went all the way up the light house and found jasmine and ampharos. She asks me to get the medicine. I exit the light house and go to the cafe. I find a sailor and he gives me strength. I teach it to machop and surf to cianwood. I go to the pharmacy and grab the medicine. I then go in the gym and challenge chuck. He was pretty easy for my level. I had some trouble against his poliwrath, because surf wasn't as effective as twister.

I got fly from chucks wife and teach it to SHINY!!!!. I went through the light house and give them the medicine. I then go to the gym and fight jasmine. She died really fast, thanks to surf.

I made my way to mahogany town and went to the lake of rage. I killed the gyarados and found lance. I went to the rocket base thingy and turned off the thing that makes them attack me. I found the 2 passwords, kill the executive and got the final password. Kill the chick, and then killed the electrodes. I got whirlpool from lance(useless..) and went to mahoganys gym. I killed pryce pretty easily with twister on his seel and dewgongs and surf on his piloswine.

Went to goldenrod, saved the radio tower, and flew back to mahogany. I went through ice path, picking up waterfall on my way down. I challenged claire, and had some trouble, oddly. I killed all of her dragonairs easily, but i forgot that kingdra was weak against dragon type moves, so i tried using surf until it was almost dead. On my way to get the dragon thingy from the dragons den or whatever, i found my other member of my team, Hydra! Found the dragon fang, and left for mt mortar!

After finding the dragon scale at mt. mortar, i gave it to sea horse and traded. Now, i have a kingdra! I got the EXP. Share from mr. pokemon, and made my way to victory road. I got Hydra up to level 36, then i got tired of grinding and challenged the elite 4. Seahorse is level 60, so i shouldn't have any problems.

Will:

Will was extremely easy. I only had a small amount of trouble because his exeggutor used leech seed and his slowbro was right after it, so i tried to use twister against it most of the time, but it kept using amnesia. So i finally got fed up and used surf.

Koga:

Koga died quick. I just used surf once on every one of his pokemon, basically.

Bruno:

Bruno was harder than koga. Only because his hitmontop used dig and he used a max potion on his machamp. other than that he got OHKO'd.

Karren:

Karren died pretty fast. I had to heal against her vileplume since my health was already low and being confused didn't really help with that factor.

Champion Lance:

Lance was pretty easy. I was almost in trouble, because i lost all the pp to twister. Good thing i had an ether.

I have to ask though, would it be cheating to wait until after beating Wattson to evolve it?

According to the first post, even waiting for it to learn Mud-slap is against the rules.

You can use Pokemon not of your type if and only if they will evolve into a Pokemon of your type at some point, though you should evolve them at the first chance you get.

Alrighty, so another update for today. Since I covered quite a bit of ground I'll be somewhat brief.

Spoiler:

• So after I got the ticket from Bill, I went onto the S.S. Anne and beat all the trainers with my trusty FISTOFFURY (Mankey). He learned Cross Chop and then I evolved him to Primeape. He's a pretty decent sweeper, and looks like he will be good for quite a few battles in the E4.

• Got Cut, taught it to a traded Farfetch'd and ran out to Rock Tunnel to catch a Machop before Lt. Surge. Took me a few tries before I got one with a Brave nature (+ATT, -SP), named it CHOPPER, and started leveling a bit on the trainers outside Rock Tunnel, having skipped a few on the way in.

• Went over to Vermilion Gym and pwned face, earning the Thunder Badge rather easily.

• More grinding on trainers and catching some randoms to get Flash, which I taught to a Drowzee.

• Journey through Rock Tunnel, teaching FoF Rock Slide from the Move Tutor inside.

• Ran through the underground to Celadon, got a Tea from an old lady and entered Saffron City to claim a Hitmonlee. Chopper had evolved into Machoke on the way, and made quick work of the trainers before the Dojo Master. FoF finished off Hitmonchan/Lee with a few Cross Chops/Mega Punches. Claimed Hitmonchan, got a Serious nature (Neutral). No nickname for him, I have always liked his name :p

• Went back to Celadon, got Fly and taught it to Ch'Ding, then went and cleared out the TR Hideout in the Game Corner. At this point, FoF and Chopper were seriously over-leveled and OHkOing everything that Hitmonchan wasn't able to deal with.

• Grabbed Sliph Scope and ran over to get the Poke Flute, which I used on Snorlax south of Lavender. After killing it, I ran down to grab a Super Rod to fish up a Poliwag north of Vermilion, which I named Wash. Took me a couple tries until I got one with a Rash (+SpA, -SpD) nature, since I am going to teach him Ice Beam/Psychic/Surf/Hypnosis eventually.

• Leveled Wash on Cycling Road until it evolved into Poliwhirl, and leveled him up a bit more for Fuschia Gym. I had completely forgotten to get a Water Stone in Celadon, so I evolved him around level 35 into Poliwrath!

• Got Surf/Strength from Safari Zone, and taught it to Wash/HM Slave (another Poliwhirl). Also taught Return and Aerial Ace to FoF.

That's it for now, I am about to head into Sliph Co. to defeat TR, my four party members are sitting around L40.

Okay, update time for my Flying Ultimate challenge. Spoiler tags for details, current team is below.

So I got to Mt. Moon, where I ended up catching a Zubat with a Quirky nature (neutral), the fourth member of my team, and named it Venom. Battled through Mt. Moon, where Bob evolved as I was leveling him up to take on Misty. Taught Mega Punch to Charmander as well. Made it out of Mt. Moon with the Helix fossil (whatever) and made it to Cerulean City. Went north to face off against Hal, and ended up beating him with just Bob left, as Freed, Charmander, and especially Venom were all underleveled. Took on Nugget Road pretty easily, was training up Venom so I had to heal quite a few times. Made it to Bill's house, and Venom had finally learned Bite so could take on a few Pokemon by himself.

Went back down and challenged Misty...and lost. I reset the game and this time taught Bob Secret Power and Freed Thief, and this time I actually swept Misty with Bob with a OHKO on Staryu with Secret Power, than the first Secret Power on Starmie paralyzed it, and I used a few Sand-Attacks while it was fully paralyzed and then started missing with Water Pulse. 2 more Secret Powers and the Cascade Badge and Water Pulse were mine! :D.

Beat the Rocket guy, got Dig, then went down to Vermilion City, where I traded a Spearow for Ch'Ding, a Farfetch'd and my Cut slave for now (If a can catch a Meowth I will, as it can learn Flash - who willl then be replaced by Psyduck for Cut and Strength). It had an Adamant nature lol, and was also carry a Stick, which raises Farfectch'd's critical hit ratio...meh. I also got an Old Rod and caught a Magikarp. I was originally going to catch a Doduo later in the game but I'm gonna use Gyarados instead, and I don't want 6 party members. Stuck him in the Day-Care as I didn't want to deal with him now. Taking on the S.S. Anne was fun. I primarily used Charmander, who had evolved into a Charmeleon now, as he knew Dig and was going to be my go-to guy against Lt. Surge as he is the only member of my team not weak to Electric moves. Anyway, I fought my way to the Captain's cabin, where I faced off again against Hal. Here's how the battle went (condensed this time lol):

I dunno why Kadabra kept using Disable, and I got lucky with Raticate, as Venom has pretty low defense and probably would not have survived (with no damage taken, no less!) without Raticate continuing to hurt itself. Charmeleon also was fortunate not to lose against Wartortle - RNG FTW.I got Cut and taught it to Ch'Ding. Stopped there after leaving the ship, am about to challenge the gym. I may fight the trainers on the other side of Diglett's Cave first, as the rest of my team besides Charmeleon is gonna be toast otherwise.

Woohoo! Finished LG! I beat the E4 and ASH, but it was touch and go there for a while. I had to Hypnosis/Potion/Revive for Lance cause of his Flying types. No extensive update this time since I covered so much ground since I left off at Sliph Co. Lots of OHkO's and new moves for E4.

E4 Highlights:

• Beat Lorelei without losing a single member to fainting. Fortunately Fighting is super effective against Ice. My only trouble was with Jynx and Slowbro, but I don't think either of them know Psychic (????) since it was never used against me.

• Bruno went down to Psychic (Wash)/Aerial Ace (FoF), as well as a couple of Vital Throws (Chopper) against Onyx.

• Agatha was kind of a *****, but her Gengar's move sets are a joke, so I was able to take her down with good contributions from all team members.

• Lance was pretty hard, due to his Flying types, and his pokemon were at least 5-8 levels above me. I'd say the key was teaching Chopper Toxic (replacing Vital Throw) and Wash Blizzard (Replacing Body Slam) right before the battle. Toxic basically took out Aerodactyl as he was killing me with Wing Attack. Obviously Blizzard was really helpful, especially against the Dragonairs, and Hypnosis was great for stalling while Revive/Lemonade spamming to keep my team in the battle. Wash took out his last Dragonair with the last Blizzard/Surf combo. Used my only Elixir on Wash after the battle, and all my extra Rare Candies on FoF to get an edge for ASH.

• ASH was next, and going into the battle I was extremely worried about Alakazam outspeeding all of my team and OHkOing them all with Psychic spam. Fortunately, ASH is really dumb and used Future sight (I really don't get it) after FoF 2HkOd Pigeot with Rock Slide (Sand Attack? Really?). Anyways, FoF got off a Return before getting pwned, and Wash came in to finish him off with a Surf after he used Future Sight again (lol). After that was Exeggutor, which Wash beat with Hypnosis/Blizzard/Surf, then Rhyhorn (what a worthless pokemon, seriously...) with a single Surf. Arcanine was up next, and Wash got off a surf before getting into the red with Extreme Speed. Hyper Potion and one more Surf later, only Blastoise was left. Blastoise isn't weak to anything Wash knows, so I switched him out for Hitmonchan after Hypnosis went off and Max Revived FoF. Blastoise kept using Skull Bash, which kept being blocked my Detect, until I ran out of PP and it killed Hitmonchan. With those Skull Bashes, Blastoise had 4-5 stages of Defense, so I was preparing for a long battle to the finish, when Cross Chop critical hit for 1/2 his HP and I became the CHAMPION!

-Went Heart Scale hunting in order to teach Ninjask Swords Dance
-Picked up HM04 for my Trecko
-Rock Smashed and headed north
-made it to Fallarbor town
-Taught Ninjask Swords Dance and Dig
-Caught a level 16 Swablu
-Went through the falls and chased Team Magma up the volcano
-Beat Archie, very easy. Pelipper OHKO'd his Camerupt with water gun
-Headed into the gym, leading with Ninjask, because he's lower level than my girls (Pelipper and Beautifly)
-Beat Flannery, Pelipper git 4 OHKO's with Water Gun
-Made my way back to Petalburg to battle Norman

Well, if you use an emulator then technically you have access to all the games lol. Also, usually people make updates are made throughout the game, not just once at the end (although I'm not sure if you meant gym instead of game). I typically like to update once every two gyms or so, depending how far I get in a day. Have fun! :D.

Now, time for my update. It's pretty short, as I didn't get as far as I wanted, but enough happened to warrant one.

So I went and challenged the Vermilion gym, hoping that Charmeleon would be able beat everbody. Well, that didn't quite happen. The trainers were easy, but Lt. Surge is a lot more difficult in the remake here. I had to fight him twice. Voltorb and Pikachu went down easily both times, but the first time, Raichu used a DT and Charmeleon missed with Dig, then Raichu paralyzed him with Thunder Wave and Charmeleon proceeded to be paralyzed FOUR TIMES IN A ROW! Raichu then spammed DT while Charmeleon was paralyzed and it was over as Raichu was untouchable. The second time around Charmeleon was able to hit with Dig after one DT and got Raichu into the red. Charmeleon ended up fainting, but Freed with his CompoundEyes (raises accuracy 30%) was able to come in, survive a Shock Wave, and Confusion for the revenge kill and the win. The Thunder Badge was mine, as well as Shock Wave! \O/\O/\O/

Now it was time to take out Magikarp from the Day-Care, where he had grown 6 levels to L11, and start my way to Rock Tunnel. I caught a Meowth to replace Ch'Ding as my HM slave because Meowth can learn Flash and Cut. Went through Diglett's Cave, got Flash, and fought the remaining trainers on Route 11 on the other side of Diglett's Cave, where Venom evolved into Golbat and learned Wing Attack for a seriously needed stat and power boost. Went up to Route 10 and battled all the trainers, saved outside Rock Tunnel. Will brave the dark tomorrow.
