Hi Oshawotron! Welcome to PokéCommunity!
PokéCommunity, or PC for short, is a forum for Pokémon fans all over the world. But you probably already figured that out. If you look at the home page, you can see all the subforums the site contains. The subjects are widely spread about Pokémon, the gaming, battling, Trading Card Game, anime and everything from the previous generations as well. There also exist boards for a lot of things non-Pokémon related. You should look around at different places to see what you like, or you could sign up for the Adoption Center for someone to guide you around.
You can talk to people in various ways. The simplest way is just to create a thread like you did here or post an answer in an existing thread. But you can also send someone a visitor message by clicking on his/her username and choose to view the public profile. There you'll find the option to post those. An other method is to send a private message, by clicking on the username and choosing to send a private message (or at the profile under contact info). Then there exist the live chat and the chat in the battle server too. Those are accessible in the upper left corner (if you're using the default theme).
If you'd post a little information about yourself, we can easily guide you to the places you'll probably find the most interesting. If you have a question (or just want to chat), you can always send me a message.

Your username reminds me so much of my fave Pokemon, which you'll probably learn soon enough. Anyhow, it's so nice to meet you Oshawotron!

Big welcome to PC, Oshawotron! [: I'd also really recommend signing up for a mentor if you're not sure how this place works; they'd all be delighted to help you out. So many things to mention about PC given how big of a community we are so it's hard to write down in an introduction thread.. but you're covered either way with how friendly the community here is.
