    Get your speculation caps on.

So here's my theory: the follow-up to Black and White will be purely a DS game, maybe supporting some kind of 3DS mode (to make use of the 3D and maybe deal with the screen-induced blur on DS games). There will be some kind of spinoff for the 3DS that they haven't announced yet, and that's this.

As for the type of spinoff... I'm still holding out hope on a 3rd-person action RPG wherein the Trainer is fit for battle himself and can learn Pokemon attacks.

Or, y'know, Mystery Dungeon. Which wouldn't be a bad thing. Any ideas? What would surprise us?

Well since that the games will be for both Ds and 3DS, I'm betting on a Mystery Dungeon, Ranger and some other annoying Spin-Off, like Trozei, -shudder-

I still think it's way to early to be working on the follow-on game to Black and White. Although maybe the R/S/E remakes are in the works, I think they'll be for Ds.

That picture worried me for a moment.

Pokemon Gray perhaps? Sorry. It had to be said.

I hope they are talking about a Mystery Dungeon game, that would be pretty smart

Yeah I don't think that they would release a main game like that, it has to be a spin-off. The next main game will probably either be DS for the 3rd B/W game, or 3DS to show what it's capable of.

I'm looking forward to the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team scenario - it's too expensive to make two sets of assets for a game at once so we'll tack on some additional features to a DS game, make the graphics slightly prettier and the sound higher quality and sell it as a full price retail 3DS game.

Meanwhile, what right do The Pokémon Company have to discuss a new mainline game when that part of the franchise is headlined and developed by Game Freak?

I'm hoping to high heavens that this is either Pokemon Grey or the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire. What I think would happen with these as far as DS and 3DS will be they will be DS games that are "3DS Enhanced." This would be similar to how Yellow was for the GameBoy but had enhanced colors and what-not on the GBC.

    I'm 100% certain that it's a spinoff.

Isn't it a bit too early for those games to be released?

    Gen III
    R/S - November 21, 2002 (Japan)/March 19, 2003 (North America)
    FRLG - January 29, 2004 (Japan)/September 9, 2004 (North America)
    Emerald - September 16, 2004 (Japan)/May 1, 2005 (North America)
    Gen IV
    D/P - September 28, 2006 (Japan)/April 22, 2007 (North America)
    Platinum - September 13, 2008 (Japan)/March 22, 2009 (North America)
    HGSS - September 12, 2009 (Japan)/March 14, 2010 (North America)
There's usually 2 year gap between the first two main series games and the third version (or remake, in gen III's case).
One of the exceptions was the Japanese Blue, since it came out 10 months after Red & Green.
The other exception was Crystal, which came out in Japan 1 year and 23 days after G/S.

next year is RSE's 10th aniv. They can release tiny bits of info to make us extremely excited and make us pull our hair out of our heads in excitement until May of next year when they begin releasing info like crazy. Plus they did say it would surprise us.

I was surprised at this, and we COULD be surprised again, theres a posibility that it might be Pokémon Grey, I do think it's too early for an R/S/E remake but you never know. The most likely it will be is another MD expansion, we had Ranger November last year so that's not far off.
Then again we could be in for a surprise, they may start releasing information about an R/S/E remake, who knows, we'll just have to wait I guess...

With next year being 10 years of RS's Japanese release I'd say it's a remake of Ruby and Sapphire. After all it has been a year already.

It could be either Pokemon Gray, the Gen V Mystery Dungeon or the R/S/E remakes. That's what I'm hoping for.

I'm not convinced it's a Mystery Dungeon game; if it was, they probably would have announced it as such. I also think it's too early for R/S/E remakes, although they might come out in 2013 or so, most likely for the 3DS. It's more likely that this is Grey version.

truth be told i really don't care what game it is, because they are making it compatible with DS and well as 3DS so i'm happy :)

It could be anything. Though I don't see any reason for R/S remakes at the moment. I hope its the 3rd game (though I don't know everyone's calling it Grey)

OMG 3D Mystery Dungeon! Because of the 3D PokeDex model that is. Or Ranger. I'd prefer Ranger since I haven't played a Mystery Dungeon before.

Anniversary-wise, R/S's 10th JP anniversary is THIS YEAR.

Just because that's the most likely name for it. It won't necessarily be named Grey, but it's likely. You can just think of the term "Grey" as "Unannounced 5th-gen 3rd-version."
