Hey guys! I really like unusual and awesome weapons and I was wondering: What is the most unheard of and unusual weapons that you have ever heard of, and how and when were they used in history? Discuss :P

    A rushed hand in paint.
    Pretty dangerous.

I was quite surprised by the existence of the war scythe, which is not actually as scythe-like as one would think, but it actually works in combat this time round. The blade's upturned so it looks much like a glaive, save that the blade is on the inside edge of the curve, rather than outside. It seems to have been popular in Eastern Europe, where of course agricultural scythes were more commonly used. It doesn't look terribly effective to me, but it's better to have than a simple spear in most cases.

Apparently there's at least once instance of German soldiers in WWII stringing piano wire across roads at neck height to injure or kill Allied soldiers riding in the oft open-topped Willys MP; I'm not sure how truthful that can be taken to be, but war is a time for such unlikely happenings. Many British devices of the same war were unusual, but I can't think of any off the top of my head aside from an inflatable tank, but that's for deceit and distraction, not a weapon.

    Ever heard of anti-tank dogs?

I forget which army it was but it was a pretty cruel weapon, they'd stave dogs and train them to find meat underneath tanks so they'd come to associate tanks with having meat under them. Then they strapped bombs to them and sent them out onto the battlefield in the hope they'd see an enemy tank and rive underneath it. This didn't quite go as planned the dogs turned around and dived under the friendly tanks they'd be training them with. Serves them right. :P

Ever hear of the love-bomb? It was an idea developed by the Americans where the idea was that it contained large amounts of an aphrodisiac so that when it was dropped on enemy they would get rather... randy, thus distracting them from the enemy. Of course it never got past the idea stage.

    "Incoming love bombs!"
Man, that would gimme a good reason to join the army. I'll throw some love bombs at women. ^_^.

It would certainly make joining the army a lot more interesting :)

Yup. Heck if Britain got it, I'd actually consider signing up to go get shot by the Taliban, provided I'm allowed to go "Fire up the love bomb lads!" :P

Uhh...Hidden Blades out of Assassin's Creed? You have to lose a finger to operate them, and then you can put poison in, or use it as a gun, or just stab people normally.

Pretty unusual if you ask me.

Ive heard that apparently Russia have a biochemical weapon that they are yet to use, since it hasnt been needed and all.
Basically what they do is release it into the air, it covers X amount of area, anyone in that area that breathes it in basically explodes from the inside out.
It seems like a harsh, but super effective weapon.

I was watching Pawnstars, and they had key gun. It functioned as both a key and a gun... so that is pretty unique in my eyes. xD

    An oar.

Yes, I mean a boat oar. More specifically, a Japanese oar(Called an eku). They're pretty dang dangerous too; especially if it's used for saltwater: The salt can get absorbed in the wood, and the oar can get as hard and sharp as a sword.

I love practicing with them :D

While fighting against the British government in Ireland, the IRA (Irish Republican Army) used a weapon called the nail bomb, which was sort of a homemade explosive, as the IRA was basically a group of militant Irish citizens, so it didn't have a lot of access to military-grade weaponry. Anyways, a nail bomb is an explosive that's packed with nails and/or other bits of sharp metal (e.g. razors). It's incredibly dangerous, as in addition to an explosion, there are nails flying everywhere, impaling people and causing a lot more casualties than regular IEDs.

Famously carved into a bokken and used by Miyamoto Musashi against a famous swordsman, no? And no, I didn't Wikipedia that, I take Okinawan Karate-do.

I remember a (perhaps hypothetical) weapon called a swordbreaker. Essentially a long, sword-like block of metal, rectangular, and more of a bludgeoning weapon than anything. It was incredibly heavy, even when hollow in the center to take some weight off, but if you got good, it would just take one or two blocks and you'd have the better weapon. Also easier to maintain than a normal sword.

Somehow, common sense is rare enough for me.

Indeed it was, and he won too. Miyamoto Musashi was pretty much the best...fighter of all time.(He used more than swords, so hard to classify him as a "swordsman..."

Anyway, what specific kind of Okinawan Karate do you take? Personally, I take Goju Ryu.

    And to get on subject...

Personally, I don't like the things usually used in videogames that "look cool but could never be practically used" such as those HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE swords used by many RPG swordsmen. I would personally laugh very hard if I saw someone with a sword that size in real life.

At least I hope that's on subject =/
