due to a drive failure we had some unexpected down time and will experience much slower than usual page load times as the raid array rebuilds itself.

we expect this extra slowness to last throughout the night today, Sunday Aug 3 through Monday, Aug 4th morning sometime.

I was actually about to ask why my page wouldn't load at all...

yup.. they had to unplug the server to replace the failed drive.. now its rebuilding the raid data.. no idea how long that's gonna take.. i guess all night. maybe more.

Ouch, that sucks. x.< Sorry to hear about this; hope to see things back to normal tomorrow. :3

that explains a lot of things.
I'm getting "cannot be displayed" and byte allocation errors left and right.
at least the moderators here have the decency to explain that there's a problem, unlike the moderators of certain other boards I've been to in the past...>.>

Thank you for relaying this information.

I was wondering why it was acting up more than usual. I got on I think once today before it started to act up and I JUST got back on after hours of trying. I got no error message just a blank white page. Kinda ticked me off...but now that I know the problem...I'm good. :D

PokeCommunity has just taught me the goodness of an automatic refresher. =)
I feel like a new man!
I very much dislike it when stuff like this happens because when I try to post, I get frustrated and end up posting the same comment like three times! Haha.

    That explains that then...

    What's a raid array?

RAID — which stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (as named by the inventor), or alternatively Redundant Array of Independent Disks (a less relative name, and thus now the generally accepted one) — is a technology that employs the simultaneous use of two or more hard disk drives to achieve greater levels of performance, reliability, and/or larger data volume sizes.

So does this mean no more spontaneous failing to load pages anymore?
The random "Fatal Errors" and "Database Errors" as well as the forums just not responding all have to do with the traffic that the PokéCommunity server is trying to deal with. The forums have grown very large and the server cannot process so many people trying to access so many things at one given time. No, I don't believe this will solve those problems. However, this does mean the site is back up and running, and after all; isn't that the most important thing? ;D

thanx for the info. so thats why i couldn't access it yestrday......

Seems the rebuild didn't 'take' and they're going to hve to replace the controller card as well..

PC will be down for a bit tonight (Aug 4-5) from 2:00am Eastern (11:00 pm Pacific) US time and slow / memory error'd till sometime mid-morning Aug 5th

Hopefully thats the last outage till we upgrade servers sometime in the near future.

Was begining to wonder why the page for me didn't load.... :/
