Lets see... shipwrecks, potentially sunken ruins, patches of sea grass where you can find Pokemon, coral reefs, random treasure strewn about the sea floor.... You sure there isn't much point? :P

There wasn't much point to it being in Hoenn either besides as a means to access two plot critical areas and find some Pokemon or in Unova besides finding stuff you could sell but it was still nice to have.

Diving is more of a Hoenn thing in my opinion. I don't see Alola having diving spots.

I agree with Alexander 18. I dont think Gamefreak is intentionally trying to keep diving an exclusively Hoenn feature and Alola is similar to Hoenn; however, diving is mostly attributed to Hoenn and the feature has not been seen anywhere else aside from Unova. When a feature is this uncommon and mostly centered around a single region, that feature often doesnt see a return. Generally speaking of course- I'm not denying there are exceptions. Not to mention, there wasnt a diving ride pokemon in SM.

Although I would think this feature would be pretty awesome in Alola!

The only thing they have in common is water but Alola is split up into four large islands. The majority of alola waters cannot be surf upon.
 
I won't mind the diving part, sounds exciting!

Maybe you'll even see Mareanies and Toxapexs chasing after Corsolas.
 
I think the mantine could just be show. It is not confirmed to be a ride pokemon yet.

Does not mean Alola will suddenly gain diving spots. Possible - yes but it can go either way.
 
Alola was consists of four islands and were surrounded by seas. You would thought that the sea would play a big part in it, but in SM Surfing didn't serve a large purpose at all. Heck, even going to Exeggutor Island from Seafolk Village, you still can't use Surf, because: The current is too fast.

Maybe it was too much to ask, and in USUM they probably expanded more surfing places, but Alola already set itself up with that huge chunk of water in the world map. 9 out of 10 that we'll still need to use the ferry service to travel between islands, so there's a limitation to how many new surfing areas they can add. Diving however, can essentially double the places to explore, and an easier way to slap more pokemon into Alolan Dex.

Mostly I like diving because the diver encounter team from ORAS and Marine Tube / Sunken Ruins from BW had such awesome music, I would want more of them
