video game leaks discussion

What are your thoughts on video game leaks? Do they dictate your purchasing habits? After all the TLOU 2 leaks came to be I think the discussion of leaks could be fun.

Game leaks generally don't effect my purchasing habits, but in some cases it makes me excited for a game. Not gonna lie all this negativity towards TLOU 2 has me extremely excited since there are elements that have been common knowledge that goes against some of the defectors. Though I do get that people might not have liked the direction of the story for TLOU 2, but I respect their decision if they don't want to get the game. You really could say that from the beginning that this game was going to be decisive.

I don't really care about leaks and don't read them often. I read some Pokémon SM and SwSh leaks, but I don't think they really affected my decision to buy/not buy them.

Can't speak about current TLOU 2 leak, since I never played first game and never even watched someone else play it.

I don't put any stock in leaks and rumours tbh. I've been down the fake leak road enough times to not get excited over something from an unknown source, irrespective of past reliability or "beyond all reasonable doubt" credibility. My purchasing habits aren't affected by things like this: I usually know if I want to buy something as soon as I get a reveal and some cover art, or know what genre it's going to be. I tend to keep away from pre-release information of any kind so as not to build expectations and/or hopes, because nothing can live up to that. So an actual leak, to me, is basically the same as any other bit of pre-release information: I don't really want to know!

Regarding TLOU2...well, I'm surprised people are reacting so negatively to it. The first game had an absolutely awful ending, and that they have apparently somehow done worse than that is...interesting. One thing I've noticed though is that crunch games are often bad games, which I find rather amusing, because they're trying to achieve the opposite goal. Regardless, it's still going to be lauded as one of the greatest games on the PS4, and people are still going to buy the game - in fact more people will probably buy it now to see what the fuss is about; any publicity is good publicity - so...well, it doesn't really make much difference, does it?

I do feel sorry for people who don't want these things spoiled, though. This is the downside with leaks. It's not as simple as just not going on sites that may have spoilers on them - plenty of people use social media for other things, after all - and it can suck if you find out something you would prefer not to. It's a pretty selfish thing to do, really.

Well people are saying the game caters to sjw's, and saying that Anita Sarkeesian(sorry if I misspelled her last name) had a hand in this game because she is friends with Neil. I'm going to be honest, I'm laughing at all that, because of the themes of the game. I don't think Anita would actually want to even associate herself with this game, since ND has released footage throughout the few years that would be a slap in the face to feminists and sjw's.

Also ironically the game was placed back on pre-order on sony's store after the leaks already happened and people have already been giving the game 5 stars so I'm thinking some people aren't to bothered by the game leaks, I'm going to be right there anyway at launch as I'm still getting the game.

People really need to learn what "social justice" is before they go throwing "sjw" around. I'm surprised people even remember who Anita Sarkeesian is too, she's been out of the spotlight for several years. tbh that sounds like people throwing their toys out the pram because the sequel doesn't have the storyline that they wanted/expected it to have and are dredging up old controversy because they don't have any clear direction to give their "I don't like this so it's obviously a conspiracy and nothing to do with opinion" complaints.

Honestly I'm reminded a great deal of Pokemon SnS with TLOU2 - ultimately the small group of discontents doesn't affect the overall reception a game gets. It can be literally the worst thing imaginable, and be touted as such, but it still sells millions, still gets ridiculously high review scores, and the complaints and criticism get shouted down because the people voicing them resort to hyperbole instead of constructive commentary, so nobody takes them seriously. Whilst I think there is the possibility that leaks contribute towards positive or negative reception, ultimately it's a very small drop in a very large ocean in the grand scheme of things.

I'm okay if something such as game mechanics are leaked, but if it's anything to do with plot no it's not okay. I hate plot spoilers and if I can't go in blind with the plot the game becomes partially ruined for me.

So for something like "Team Rocket is returning in Ultra Sun/Moon" that would be a plot spoiler for me. It's something I could feel surprised with and having that leaked takes away the surprise and experience.

leaks are bad and people who share them are too
